Where do you think Cartoon Network crossed the line?

nothing compared to what it used to be. What I'm wondering is where you
guys thing they crossed the line.
Personally, I think it was when Cartoon Cartoon Fridays "sold out", got
real hosts, celebrity guests, etc. It wasn't all that bad, though,
since they still had some decent cartoons. However, they crossed the
line the most with "Out of Jimmy's Head". It killed what Cartoon
Network stood for, and that was animation.
What made Cartoon Network great was that it always had cartoons on. You
didn't have to wait for the teen's block on Nick to be over or be up
early for the Saturday morning cartoons. Now, it's no different than
stations like Nickelodeon.
So, share your rants about Cartoon Network's current state. It would be
nice to see more activity in Usenet for stuff other than binaries.

Well, an awful lot of ISP's have dropped the binaries groups, and I think
several have dropped usenet entirely. I never cared too much about
cartoon cartoon friday's, except that cute black girl they had on a few
years back. As for Out of Jimmy's Head, I didn't watch it at all (just
saw the commercials for the movie/show, but at least it was a combination
of animation and live action.
The things that I think have contributed to the demise, although I cannot
specifically identify which one is the "turning point," at least in my
opinion, are the following:
1. Adult Swim
I like the anime, but that has been relegated to 1am to 4am (or so) on
sunday morning, which I sometimes actually stay awake for (and, no, I do
not plan on buying or even setting up a VCR or whatever to record it).
As for the rest of it, some of the shows that they have brought in are
OK, such as King of the Hill (I like it!), Futurama (not on AS anymore,
but I liked it), Family Guy (it at least has its moments), and probably
some others that are not coming to mind right now. Sometimes they
accidentally put on a comedy that is actually funny, like robot chicken
or the Venture Brothers, though the funniest show that is (or at least
was) on AS is Shin Chan.
However it is mostly a vast wasteland of crappy animated shows like
squidbillies, tom goes to the mayor (I think that kinda counts as
animation?), and recently crappy live action shows like Tim/eric awesome
show, Saul of the mole men, and that British show (at least I think it is
British).
2. The demise of toonami.
First, they moved toonami from every afternoon to just Saturday. That was
OK, but even at that point I could see that its days were numbered. They
have even dropped Toonami's replacement, Miguzi (Toonami lite?).
Then they dropped it from 4 hours to 2 hours. Then they dropped it
entirely. Then they even dropped jetstream, so those shows could not
even be watched online.
Then they "replaced" it with far inferior action block on Friday. The
shows on it are OK, but it doesn't even hold a candle to Toonami.
3. Playing live action movies
I am not sure what the first live action movie was, but now crap like Son
or the Mask or son of ace ventura or whatever seems to be played more
than cartoon movies like Sinbad or Antz or whatever.
4. Overplaying their "hits"
For example, TDI and 6teen are pretty good shows, but they are rapidly
approching, if they have not already passed the "seen so much, I am going
to change the channel if they come on" point. CN has always done this to
some extent, but they just seem to be doing it more now.
5. The reality shows they have planned to debut later this summer.
Just the commercials for them make them look like they suck. I think
that these will be CN's final finishing blow. If it is, they will have
learned their lesson about destroying their core audience, although too
late.
My taste in shows might not be the same as everyone else's, so shows that
I cited as being my favorites (Shin Chan, anime in general, KOTH), might
be despised and hated by some, and show I cited as being lousy such as
suidbillies and Tim/eric might actually have rabid fans somewhere, though
I really cannot even fathom that concept.

when I used to wait till my "toons" or anime would come on CN. Now.....I
haven't even watched it in sooooo long. theres nothing there for me.
Bring back sailor moon, gundam, dragonball Z, all those other great series.
Wolfs rain, Big O, Outlaw Star. gads, I was introduced to all those great
series.
Now look what they offer.

I can certainly agree with all that. They seem to spend so much time
pushing a few series which are anything but original. Not enough variety,
too many deadhead shows. Seems like the people in charge *want* the
channel to fail.
