greenlight another Firefly project (maybe a direct-to-DVD movie that won't
interfere with Fillion's filming of his Castle show)?

Probably not. The studio saw how much money the first movie made.
Probably not enough to justify another one even if it is direct to
DVD.

If you want Firefly to return lobby a network liike TNT/sy
fy/Spike/etc. to resurect the series.

Probably not. The first one didn't make enough money for a second, so
they're unlikely to change their mind.

The Avengers was so big because it was a sequel to "Iron Man 2", "The
Incredible Hulk", "Thor" & "Captain America: First Avenger", not
because it was by Joss Whedon.

Whedon will be able to get more money for new projects, though.
