There's been talk for months now about a reboot of Joss Whedon's Buffy the
Vampire Slayer series. Plans are underway to relaunch it as a new movie
franchise (more on that here), a movie franchise with no connection to the
popular television series and worse, no involvement from creator Joss
Whedon.

Today we had a chance to sit down with former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star
Alyson Hannigan. She played Buffy's nerdy yet loveable sidekick Willow
during the show's run and for my money it was she, not Buffy, who was by far
the best part of the series. Willow's one of the biggest reasons Buffy
worked as well as it did and though Hannigan has now moved on to other
things (like How I Met Your Mother) it's almost impossible to imagine any
Buffy project without her. Well start imagining.

We asked her about those Buffy remake plans and she seems as perturbed by
the whole thing as the show's fans. When we asked her what she thought of
Buffy without Joss she said, "Yeah, and that's a very big mistake in my
opinion." Whedon wrote both the 90s movie and ran the subsequent spin-off
television show she was a part of. So it makes sense that Hannigan says, "I
mean if Joss isn't involved, it's only the title."

And without Joss, there's no way they'll get her involved in it. Not even
for a cameo. She says, "Not without Joss. Joss is the only reason that we
would go back. I mean, it's just ridiculous to think of that TV show without
Joss. That's just silly to me. And all the fans know that, too, so I don't
know what they're thinking."

Hannigan's reaction to remake echos that of former Giles Anthony Stewart
Head, who, rather gleefully trashed the notion a few weeks ago here. [see
below] Look it's no mystery why they're doing this. Vampires are hot and
let's face it, Twilight is basically just a watered down Buffy ripoff so why
not bring back the real deal and get rich. But I'm pretty sure nobody wants
it. Not the fans, not the Buffy cast, and probably not Twilight fans who are
too busy swooning over Edward to notice anything else.
';';
[below] Moviehole caught Anthony Stewart Head, who played the
watcher Giles on the television show, on USA Weekend talking about the
imminent reboot which will, unfortunately, not include him. Giles isn't
happy about it. He says, "I wouldn't want to see it, no." He then cuts right
to the heart of the problem saying, "The Kuzuis didn't do a great job on the
movie the first time around. It was Joss' script at the age of 19, but they
changed a lot of it. They said, 'Look, we know best and we know how to make
this movie,' and it became quite schlocky and high camp."

They're thinking "damn, vampires are kinda the hot thing right now."

I'm sure Tony Head would never associate with anything schlocky,
or camp.

I think my sarcasm meter just pegged and broke.

I know you Can't be talking about Rocky Horror or Dr. Who, so I assume
you're referring to Repo :) (or possibly Little Britain)

Gee. Willow was great, but that's crazy.

So who do you think was the best character? I'm leaning toward
Anya.

Was Anthony Head really in The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

I've seen that movie a thousand times and never noticed him.

Anya was too blunt for my liking. Favourite characters that come to mind are
Giles, Cordelia (early, at her bitchiest), The Master, Glory, Drusilla and Adam.
But the outstanding character over the course of the series has to be Buffy.

Rocky Horror started as a live show, and is occasionally revived.

Ah of course! I didn't know he was in the actual theatre version of
it. Thanks.

He played Frank N. Furter in some revival in 1990 (according to
his website). Wikipedia says he recorded "Sweet Transvestite" for
a single.

He's done Shakespeare and Wilde and Stoppard and Osborne and
Lloyd-fucking-Webber and all other shit like that. He's a thesp, a
luvvie. The idea that he's anti-camp doesn't track.

Spike is easily the best character on the show, IMO.

Adam had no personality save that of a Frankenstein monster.

He had his moments but there was far too much attention was paid to him.

Adam was funny.

Apologies for the slight delay in replying.
