"The world is becoming more diverse, and children are exposed to many forms
of music at a young age," Jamie Cygielman, senior vice president of consumer
products for show's producer HIT Entertainment told the Daily News.
Riff, who will be introduced as the cousin of dinos Baby Bop and BJ, will
make his own instruments and help teach musical concepts like volume, rhythm
and tempo.
A crest on top of his head will light up in different colors when he plays
music.
A fan of eating celery with cheddar cheese and raisins, and of saying things
like "Tippity-top," Riff will make his debut on the new season of "Barney &
Friends" on PBS Kids on Sept. 18.
