Tonight, some KKK vampires attempted to set up a cross in order to burn
it, but they were repeatedly burned by that cross.

Klu Klux Klan, A violent American racist organization setup after the
American Civil War (1861-1865) reputedly by Confederate General Nathan
Bedford Forrest to to thwart reconstruction, to terrorize, deny the
voting franchise and maintain white supremacy over the newly freed
black slaves in the American South and later the US as a whole.

One of the rights of the KKK is cross burning. They erect a giant
cross and set it aflame to so call celebrate so-called white pride and
power. It is also used on a smaller scale to intimidate populations
they don't like (blacks, Jews, non-whites in general, whites who
reject their racism, perceived communist) by burning small ones on the
lawns of those targeted.

The Joke is that the vampires in life were KKK and they try to
continue on as they did in mortal life but of course botch it because
vampires are vunerable to both the image of the cross and to fire. :-)

No, because my citizenship is a result of where I was born, not any
personal achievement. I didn't do anything to earn it.

I'm British rather than American but...

You're100% spot on. No one can be "proud" about a billion to one
sperm/egg/country combination. That's just luck. It would be a false and
unwarranted pride.

I prefer to think of myself as "lucky" to be British/Western. I don't mean
that in a "I'm better than someone from <x country>" but in a "I'm damned
lucky to have been given the chances and privaleges that others haven't"
way.

I could have been born in a country ravaged by disease or famine, where your
children die before they're 1 year old, 4 times out of five. Or a war torn
country, or there's no education or health care, or work.

We're by no means perfect, and I can claim no credit for the things the UK
do/have done, that are good (any more than I can take the blame for
something it's done thats wrong) but I know I have chances that others in
some nations will never be lucky enough to have.

I would certainly never use my good fortune as a way to claim I'm better
than someone who hasn't had my good fortune.

I'm British but am neither proud or otherwise. I have no need for pride in
this kind of thing, I get to live my life in relative peace and without fear
of poverty. I have opportunities, and I am grateful, as many people don't
enjoy such liberty. I have no overwhelming desire to change my nationality.
I have lived my life as a Briton and can identify with its cultures and
values, but I am not overcome with emotion at declaring myself as British.

These statements, while politically correct, are hardly anything to be
proud of.

Yes, it is a matter of luck where one is born. But society is not
something that should be experienced passively. One contributes to
their society, for good or for ill. One hopes to promote what is good
in one's society, and hopes to fight what is bad about one's society.
What one does with one's life, how one works to improve society, is
not a matter of luck.

Yes, I am proud to be an American because of its ideals - because it
does have some very worthy beliefs. I am proud of the way that we
have come together in this latest crisis, I am proud that we believe
in basic freedoms of humanity, and that we have enshrined those
freedoms into law. I am proud of that which is good in the United
States.

There are times when I am less proud of America, times when our
ignorance gets the better of us, when we turn our heads away from the
violence in society, times when some Americans are stupid. But it is
my pride in my country that makes me want to address those problems,
to become the "more perfect union" the Founding Fathers set out to
make.

So, yes, I am proud to be an American. That doesn't mean that I think
that America is perfect, but it does mean I want to do everything to
make it a better place.

As a Brit, I am proud I have always defended America whenever someone
started bitching about her. America *is* a better nation than virtually
every other country on the planet. It makes me cranky when European
countries get all snooty about their far less free societies.

Oh .... and America gave the world BUFFY! God bless the USA.

I dunno. I didn't really have to put any effort into it. I mean, all I
did was be born, and considering that it's the United States, it's
probably a lot easier to make it to term here, right?

But to think that you as an individual have some influence (in a democratic
soceity) over the *relative* decisions is something that you can take pride
in. What I mean is, if your country, for instance, was leading in preventing
war in third world countries or something, just an example, and if this was
a direct result of a vote that had been taken in your country, which you had
been a part of, then you could feel proud of the people, proud of your part
in it, and, IMO, proud of your country.

IMHO, obviously, although, this doesn't actually mean that I disagree with
what you said, I guess I'm actually making a kinda differnt point.

centuries.
and yes, I'm proud to be an American, with perhaps one reservation: what
was done to the American Indians.

(As for slavery, the whole western world can share the blame there,
including Africa itself - some tribes warred on and captured other
tribes and sold them to the dutch who in turn sold them to America. etc.
