I recorded an episode to hard drive - scrapped the audio on some
action sequences and replaced with better music and it was awesome.
I reckon the only thing really wrong with that series was the backing
music was so bad it just made everything "feel" wrong.
I mean after all how could anyone not like something with Rommy in it!

Did your experiment make the fifth season any better than a mild case
of Ebola?
I agree that the scoring is bad -- the music just feels cheap and
doesn't hold up to other shows very well. However, I thought the
opening theme song from Season 1 was awesome and really wished they
didn't change it for the "heroic" theme song.
Anyway, the show is actually decent (save the horrible and senseless
fifth season), with the first two seasons being quite good. Seasons 3
and 4 were "okay."
I doubt the music would have actually changed the perception of the
quality of the writing at all -- which is where Andromeda's problems
are.
