Let me explain. My wife and I used to like the show even though Seacrest was
a pompous ass, so was Cowell but unlike Seacrest, Simon knew what he was
talking about. I believe we followed every show for 7 or 8 seasons
BUT when Simon quit, it lost a lot of pzazz. He was the nasty but essential
ingredient for initial and continued success. His nastiness was the major
difference between run-of-the-mill talent shows such as Ted Mack's Amateur
Hour and Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts v. AI. I don't know your age so
perhaps you never heard about what I just wrote? But believe me--this talent
discovery stuff goes WAY WAY back in the lands of both radio and TV. At any
rate, AI lost a lot when both Simon and Paula departed because the
replacements were s##ty especially that goofy looking guy whom I thought was
a woman with nuts. Then the dropoff of GOOD talent became very noticeable
and the actual musical selections were best suited for crackheads, not for a
genius such as I. My wife's also smart but not a genius. And so for a few
seasons we didn't follow the show. But out of curiosity after such an
absence, she began following it this season but only after the audition
phase ended. And what the hell...I did too. We were fond of the final six
and especially the gal with all the teeth, all the hair and played piano.
You're supposed to have 32 teeth and she had 64 which would light up a
photographic darkroom. She had as many teeth as her piano had white keys. In
fact, she could have gone to work as a living xylophone. Some guy could have
played her mouth as a circus act. Finally it came down to Candice and Kree
but why Kree? Everything she sang sounded the same. She was pretty enough
but lacked dynamism. She came across as exciting as a needle caught in a
phonograph record. That left Candy and she is one very talented lady who
needs to go on a diet. I wish her well. And who the hell is that Jimmy dope
with the baseball cap and tinted glasses who had so much to say about song
selections? The guy reminded me of an Oldsmobile windshield. And that
Minage-a trois gal was weird beyond imagination--she's leaving too even
though it was "goodbye Randy Jax" night. And so what turned me off to AI is
lousy music that I consider either boring or cacaphonic and talentless
talent for the most part. All in all I say that except for a very few of the
top ten for all those seasons, the show's been pretty much exaggerated over
creating stars.
