American Idol's controversial finalist, Antonella Barba, has been
offered $500,000 by an online adult DVD renter called SugrarDVD.
According to TMZ.com, her first gig, if she accepts the offer, would
be to host a launch party for the company's new video-on-demand
service.
Barba, 20-year old New Jersey native, is studying architecture at the
Catholic University in Washington, D.C. Aspiring to be a star, she
went to New York to audition, made it through to Hollywood and became
a top 24 finalist. She remains to be a "hot item" in the media ever
since her provocative pictures surfaced the Internet. The pictures
showed the American Idol finalist and her friends topless at the
beach. In addition, photos from an anonymous source on various gossip
blogs contained much illicit exposure of an alleged Barba engaging in
a number of sexual acts and titillating poses, exposing much of her
private parts. This issue however, did not disqualify her from the
reality show.
For some, her titillating exposure was distasteful, but for others,
her pictures were very appealing. SugarDVD's CEO "Jax" said, "You saw
her photos online, she's smokin'."
Moreover, SugarDVD is not the only one interested in getting Barba as
their spokesperson. Joe Francis, CEO of Girls Gone Wild has also
offered Barba a $250,000 deal to become a host for the video company.
But Jax welcomes the bidding war for Barba saying, "We will not lose
because of money."
Ultimately, Barba remains to be one of the finalists of American Idol
season 6, but for how long? There has been a lot of buzz over her poor
performance, controversial issues aside, majority of which comes from
Idol judge Simon Cowell. Will she linger on the show? And can she
resist the whopping $500,000 offer? Stay tuned to American Idol, which
airs Wednesdays at 8:00 PM on Fox.

Okay - the GGW gig "only" paid $250,000 - and GGW is somewhat soft-
core. But SugarDVD is starting at twice-that, $500,000 and stated
they're willing to go higher for a somewhat similar gig.
Does Barba possess the talent and appeal to launch a sustained career
in the entertainment biz and invite more lucrative offers?
Based on other 'reality-tv' celebs, the market seems somewhat
limited. AI-based, I can think of only Kim Caldwell on TVGuide
Channel with a successful non-singing position as Co-Hostess of her
show - all others, are based on the former Idol contestant having to
sing, which seems to be Barba's greatest weakness.
Other RealityTV celebs have mostly resorted to Playboy, which I don't
think offers their girls half-a-million to pose, with a few
exceptions.
Rob & Amber of Survivor have milked their 15mins into all sorts of
annoying appearances, which I believe has them on one more Amazing
Race this season.
Elisabeth Filarski/Hasselbeck nailed a great gig on The View.
But poor Jenna Lewis had to resort to releasing her own "accidentally
leaked" sex tape to extend her 15mins, and has recently signed to
appear on some Playboy TV show.
Of course, she could use her newfound celebrity as a "stepping stone"
to hooking up with some loaded creepy old guy and become the ol'
Jersey Trophy Wife cliché, but is that what someone wants for their
kid as well?
So again - Does Barba possess the talent and appeal to launch a
sustained career in the (on-singing) entertainment biz and invite more
lucrative offers?

Matt Rogers is hosting a show on the Discovery channel called "Really
Big Things" (or something like that). It's one of the Made in
America/Dirty Jobs kind of shows. I've only seen it once, but he is
actually very good in it. A natural. And there's no singing involved.
But it wouldn't be too bad if there was; he sang better than most of
men from this season.
Interesting side note: Mike Rowe, who hosts Dirty Jobs, used to sing
with the San Francisco Opera Chorus (I hope that's the right one)

Dang I missed that one. But I did see (and remember fondly) the DJ
marathon that he hosted from the bathtub. Yeah. I remember that one.
I'm remembering it right now if fact. Did I mention I agree with your
