I missed the very beginning of it, as was on the phone, but what I
heard was good...even hit the high notes perfectly, and No! he didn't
beat box! :-)
If you check out the site that Sera posted, you will see the HUGE crowd
of people that turned out to meet him in Seattle, and everywhere he
went, he was surrounded by fans, holding up support signs for their
"home town boy"....he was treated like a celebrity....parade and all!

Boy! they did too...I couldn't get over how much of an applause and
"hoopla" he was getting at that game, and even one of the announcers
said he felt like he was in the midst of a celebrity, having Blake
there..the crowd was holding up signs and cheering him! He got quite a
welcome in Seattle...you ought to check out the site Sera posted...you'd
think a famous movie star had hit their city!
My friend called me long distance here in Alaska, from Bellingham, Wa.
just to let me know he'd be on singing The Star Spangled Banner at the
Seattle Mariner's game, cause she'd knew I'd want to see/hear it.

Better than Jordin: "Oh, say chhhchhh can you see chhhchhh by the dawn's
..." Jordin makes more extraneous non-singing noises than Blake does. At
least Blake's are on the beat!

Well, if you look at the crowd and the space that they were in (at least in
the picture with the stage) it looks like maybe 500 people max are there.
Now don't get me wrong, that's a decent size, but not a cast of thousands.
I would hope for a city like Seattle that they would get a big crowd.
I forget that you haven't been watching AI for too long. But if you've seen
other seasons you'd see that all the home town's do the same thing for their
Idol...and they are "stars" in their hometowns. It's not really surprising
that they get warm welcomes. Last year Kellie and Elliot's towns had
parades, Taylor had a mini-concert at a mall, and
Katharine.....well.....Katharine had her family there to greet her. LOL

Had horny middle-aged men been notified, Kat would have gathered a much
bigger crowd.
It does seem the smaller the town, the bigger the reception for a returning
AI hero(ine).

How "big" would the crowd get? ;)

My parents live by Kellie's hometown and boy howdy (just had to get that in
for kicks) did they love their Kellie. Put it this way, if Kellie was in
town you'd know it. If the Queen of England came to town, you'd think it
was a day like any other day. LOL

Great comeback, Itoshi! You have hit the nail on the head with this
observation! :-)

Yes, I do remember hearing about when the Top 3 contestants, from last
season, went home for their "weekend furlough" that there was very few
people that turned out to welcome Katharine, and then didn't she go to
her old school, or something, and the town didn't have kind of
celebration, if I recall? Sheesh! must have been embarrassing?! I
didn't see any pictures, but seems I did hear there was a parade for
Taylor, and was some stuff going on in honor of Elliot too, as know the
were proud of their "home town boy" also.
There really wasn't very many pictures on this site for Blake of just
the crowd, but in that one picture, it looked like quite a mob, as sort
of reminded me of the A. I. auditions. Is hard to say how many there
could possibly be, as no way to count them really, and that was only the
people that fit in the camera frame at the time, as possibly could have
been many, many more in that particular area, and of course, there was a
parade in his honor too, and live appearances. My friend in Bellingham
(80 miles from Seattle) said there was a lot on the local news about his
being home, and also commented it was just like a celebrity had hit
town. I would think that Blake would be well liked, as seems like a
pleasant person.

Speaking of "Boy Howdy", don't people in those parts say "WOO HOO" a lot
too?

I Tivo'd the Fox affiliate morning news on Fri, finally watched it...
It was all about Blake, from the moment his SUV limo pulled up. He
came across as a genuine, humble, nice guy during the interview. Some
interesting tidbits: He previously never watched American Idol; when
he made the Top 24 a lot of his friends were calling him a "sell-out"
because his type of music is eclectic and AI would be "too mainstream"
for him. He just thought it could be a good opportunity for him to
get his music out of Seattle and make it national and international
(I'm glad it's working!). He talked about some of his tattoos -- he
has a music staff on his arm, yin/yang, a tree root on his right wrist
(for 'remembering your roots'), etc. And the question of the day "do
you have a special someone?" He says he is "single and ready to
mingle." The reporter asked him about blowing a kiss to Antonella
Barba... Blake answered that she was just in the audience that day and
that they have to show support for their fellow idols. He even gave
props to Sanjaya and the other Seattle Top 24 contestants like Amy
Krebs, Rudy. And he mentioned an interesting trivia that 2/3 of the 3
finalists auditioned out of Seattle (yeah the other is Jordin)!
In his mini-concert, I read that he beat-boxed while local Seattle
rapper Sir-Mix-a-Lot performed 'Baby Got Back'.
I don't know why....but I'm stunned to hear this from Itoshi. That's
not meant negatively. It's just.....I dunno....like the I-Man
unwrapped!

I hope we can all be good neighbors online!
Had Bo beat Carrie, ....once again....Kellie would have, moderately
easy, won AI5.
Only one word is a worthy reply to this opinion.
NOT!

Most definitely she would have. From the moment, however, that Carrie
won, no country performer would win AI5.

No Bob, she wouldn't have. She is cute and somewhat talented, but there
were many more factors in AI5 that would've prevented her win. She may have
gone further, maybe 3 or so, but no way would she have won over Chris or
Taylor...in my (and probably many others) so humble opinion.
I guess this is where people throw out the old "agree to disagree"
statement.
--
Nah, she would have won. Daughtry would have gone out fifth and her
path would have been cleared.
:-)
I don't think she would have won, but I do think she might well have
replaced McPhee in the final 2. Remember, one of the reasons that
Kellie left when she did was because the judges (producers?) threw her
under the bus. Sure, she left exactly when she should have based on
her talent, but if Carrie had not won AI4, TPTB might well have
protected Kellie better with their comments. Also, they might not
have praised McPhee as much as they did if they wanted Kellie to
outlast her.
A Taylor /Kellie finale would have been very interesting. I do think
that Taylor would have ultimately won, because he was a better
performer. Also, he had an ability to cross demographic lines, both
heartland, urban and so on. Now if it had come down to a Chris/Kellie
finale, Kellie would have won, in my opinion, because the heartland
vote would have been completely hers in that scenario.
Do you really think anything was going to stop Taylor? I honestly
think that he had that baby wrapped up from the get-go because he was
the anti-idol. In fact, I pegged him as the winner back during the
auditions before he even reached the semi-finals and even made a post
saying so back then. I think Kellie would have made final 2 but
still doubt a win against Taylor.
Perhaps they are missing their true calling. They need to work out a duet
and take their act on the road!
Had Underwood lost, IMHO, Pickler would have been the Heartland's
revenge against anybody else. It might have been controversial (Ruben
vs. Clay II) but it would have been hers.
I agree with just about everything you said, Kittyn. The exception
being that only if Carrie lost to Bo, would things have changed. That is
the only scenario where I do believe that Pickler would have beaten
everyone....perhaps controversially, but I do think she would have done
it....even with Taylor. By AI5, country was not going to be denied had
Carrie lost in AI4 (and Bucky was a non-factor, regardless).

To be fair, it should be noted that Katharine is from LA. They are
not easily impressed with idol celibrities.
If we accept your premise that Kellie's chances were harmed by Carrie's
success, I would not be so sure. Kellie would have drained a lot of
support out from under Taylor, which changes the dynamic from round of
six on. A substantial number of fans who ran to Taylor would instead
line up behind Kellie (rather than vice versa).
Even the battle ground shifts. With Kellie siphoning off Taylor support,
Kat becomes the presumed midseason leader. Elliot becomes even more of a
non issue: the real fight is for the Country/Lynyrd Skynyrd vote. Taylor
is out in the round of 4, preceding Elliot who goes in round 5, leaving
Kellie, Kat, and Daughtry. Kat, not being damaged by her comments re
Kellie being spun, nor blamed for Daughtry's early demise, beats Kellie
in the semis and 19 gets the ideal grand final, Daughtry versus
Katharine. Who wins is a real crap shoot.
The Other Mickey
> Had Underwood lost, IMHO, Pickler would have been the Heartland's revenge

Why wouldn't the heartland embrace Kellie too? I mean, if she was *that*
good, they would've voted strongly for her. Just because a female country
artist already won? Nah, that's not it. They didn't because they liked
Taylor and maybe Daughtry better. This had nothing to do with whether
Carrie won or not. If they really liked her, they would've voted for her.
--
Never underestimate an angry electorate who strongly feels that their
candidate lost. They can seek revenge and come back stronger than
before. OTOH, never overestimate an electorate whose candidate won and
who are, at least, temporarily "full" with the passion of victory. A
lot of "clone" candidates like that, lose in the next election cycle.
I think the only thing that would have changed would have been whether
she was praised by the judges or not. McPhee got the push from the
judges as the "annointed" female. If Kellie had been pushed and she
had not been praised as much, Kellie might have been the last female
standing. The heartland vote was with Kellie to some extent, but her
similarity to Carrie, with much less vocal chops was bound to hurt
her. TPTB were not going to try to push her when the negative
comparison between her and Carrie existed. I am sure there were some
heartlanders and others that felt it was almost an insult to Carrie to
vote for a poor man's version of her. I am no country fan, as I am
sure I have made clear over the years but Kellie = Carrie like my
niece's finger painting = Rembrandt.
Without that harsh comparison, she might have fared much better than
she did. However, Taylor advanced without the across the board
support of the judges. Simon was not fully on board for him until the
last song of the finale and even then it was done with reluctance. I
think Taylor still would have won, but I do understand Bob's
reasonings for thinking Kellie would have advanced further.
>I think Taylor still would have won, but I do understand Bob's reasonings
>for thinking Kellie would have advanced further.
Bob didn't reason that she'd go further, he reasoned that she would
definitely win. I'm not going to argue that perhaps Kellie, and maybe even
Bucky would've gone further, but there was no stopping the Taylor or
Daughtry train....none what-so-ever.
--
Does nobody remember what last season was really like? My God, Kellie
Pickler was clearly outclassed week in and week out. She had zero chance
whatsoever of winning.
Maybe she's doing okay now and good for her, but last season she was little
better than Sanjaya.
I agree with you in regards to Taylor. I think Chris was honestly a
victim of complacency rather than a lack of a big fan base. I think
we were very close to having a Taylor/Chris finale.
Quite true. I'm just saying that if Carrie had lost to Bo, or gone out
earlier....that the voter anger from country fans, IMHO, would have been
strong enough to push Carrie to the AI5 win. I know that's a bit
controversial and we will never know for sure. That's ok. We/I've seen
election candidates where that same type of "redirected anger by issue
voters" resulted in the next candidate in the following election get the
win even though they weren't as strong/good/talented etc. as the first
person who didn't win. I think that would have happened in AI5 with
Kellie had Carrie lost AI4.
Get ready though....depending on who wins AI6...AI7 may be a country
paradise.
Well...Daughtry was stopped. That one percent difference in the top
three almost derailed Taylor as well. It would have been planets lining
up just right, I admit, for Pickler to have won but the only way she
could/would have depended on Underwood losing in AI4.
I doubt any rocker (Bo notwithstanding as a "rocker and in his
situation) will ever come closer, in reality, to winning AI that
Daughtry. AI is just not geared to a rocker win.
American Band....now that will be interesting. Hopefully, TPTB learned
their lessons from American Juniors.....especially since they STILL will
have one more show that Fox has contracted TPTB for after American
Band...and that's before AI is over/done and Simon gets to play
"American X-Factor", if he ever really does, IMHO.
With respect and fondness for you, Kittyn, I disagree. Chris was never
going to get close to the finals.
AI is contracted to Fox through AI10. I do not see a rocker ever
winning unless the viewer demographics of AI, almost dramatically,
change. Some may come close, but I don't even thing a real rocker will
get to the finals.
Country though....that's another story.
>In article <34kf439gvdr4bltvq...@4ax.com>,
Do you really think Chris was a "real" rocker? He was no more a
rocker than Bo was and he made it to final 2 the season before. If
you have listened to his CD, he has a couple of harder songs, but most
of his music is mostly an alternative type rock, not "true" rock.
If Bo got to the final 2, I believe that final 2 was in reach for
Chirs if his voters didn't take a bit of a breather at the wrong time.
A few weeks earlier, it was stated that Chris and Kat were the top
group. I think that lulled his fans into a false sense of security.
However, NOW she has secret weapons!
Personally, I am not so sure that there is such a thing as "a real rocker"
these days. Perhaps that might have something to do with why people can't
rally around one. (JMHO...of course!)
EXACTLY!!! Great minds think alike. She did look rather cute on the CBS
Morning show today. I tivoed to see the Survivor segment, but got to see
Kellie and Carrie. What a bonus!!
>> I think Kellie was more comparable to Blake this season. A barely

Uh....the way she parades those puppies around....they are far from secret!
