ANTI 'AMERICAN IDOL' RALLY PLANNED TO SUPPORT FRENCHIE DAVIS
Activist Najee Ali, supporters claim show is guilty of 'double standard.'
(March 5, 2007)
Without beating around the bush, civil rights activist Najee Ali,
celebrities, community leaders and Chris Tian & Friends for Frenchie Davis,
will confront "American Idol" this Tuesday claiming a double standard
exists.
With the recent headlines regarding explicit photos of "Idol"'s season
six contestant Antonella Barba being brought to focus via news outlets and
on talk programs nationwide, a celebrity rally on Tuesday will examine the
issue of a double standard as it relates to the Fox-TV program's treatment
of Frenchie Davis.
Tuesday's planned rally/press conference is scheduled to be held at 11
am in front of the Kodak Theater in Hollywood where the "American Idol"
program is broadcast from.
Four years ago Davis was dismissed from the show for purported racy
photos. But those photos, which Davis told EUR in an exclusive interview,
were never seen either by the "Idol" powers that be, nor the public. On top
of that she maintains her photos were of her modeling lingerie. Barbas' are
of the hardcore porn type and have actually been published and seen by the
public.
Project Islamic Hope's Ali, who is known for his no nonsense, take no
prisoners style of speaking out on current issues, will be joined at the
rally by season one "Idol" Producer Tarvenia Jones, Frenchie Davis (by
phone), and Belinda Foster, manager of Frenchie Davis.
The public is encouraged to join the rally on the "IDOL MELTDOWN on
the DOUBLE STANDARD that is plaguing the current season with its current
contestants," states the press release.
Ali and the participants are rallying that "Davis be brought back on
'Idol' now." Additionally, a "Vote for Frenchie back on 'Idol' now" email
address has been set up by Chris Tian & Friends For Frenchie Davis at:

Frenchie, it's over. You've got a secure job, one you probably
wouldn't even have if it weren't for the Idol exposure. To turn
around four years later and now start claiming that no one ever saw
the photos is too little, too late.
BTW- I slept through the rally. Does anyone know if anybody even
bothered to show up? It's kind of short notice, especially for a
weekday.
Shoudn't the "rally" at the time the show is broadcast?
There should be a Rally 101 class they could take.
So, are they trying to make this about racism?
It's not - it's strictly about looks.
Frenchie Davis is not a good-looking woman by the standards of
Armerican celebrity; Antonella Barba falls into those standards.
There is a definite double-standard, but these people are raising a
stink about the wrong reason.

If you read the other article I posted, Frenchie I think believes it is a
combination of "isms", weight, race and something else I believe but can't
remember. I don't get the impression she is really a part of the rally
thing but she isn't objecting to it either. From what I read, Frenchie told
the producers about her pictures at the time she was asked to sign contracts
to be on idol. The website no longer existed by the time she was on idol
and the pictures of her never surfaced. Has anyone ever seen the pictures
of Frenchie topless? I never have but I never looked for them either.
So from what I understand, Frenchie's pictures are of her topless wearing
some kind of lingerie that she took when she was 19 and sold to a website.
Antonella's pictures are of her illegally taking half naked pictures at the
WWII Memorial, underage drinking which is also illegal, groping other women
(clothed and topless), and possibly giving a man a blow job (we have "proof"
on both sides, so it's still in question). Frenchie gets booted, Antonella
stays. I think the producers should be booted.

Antonella's pix were classy -- at least any that she intentionally released.
And there was no total toplessness exposed. As I understand it, Frenchie
deliberately released completely topless pix. Frenchie is doing this as a
publicity stunt, nothing more. She realizes, I'm sure, it's apples and
oranges. But when you've got a shot at publicity you take it.
Couldn't agree more. It is apples and oranges. Or in Frenchie's
case, half filled water balloons. Frenchie has been stuck playing the
same crappy role in Rent for years. She's not even one of the leads.
If she truly had any career momentum going, she'd have been offered
another job. People leave shows and come back to them all the time.
She lucked out, she's got a good-paying job thanks to her notoriety
(let's face it, there's no guarantee she'd have made it too much
further on Idol if she'd stayed and she probably would have been
completely forgotten by now if this whole scandal hadn't happened.)
and she owes whatever small amount of fame she has to those purported
nude photos.
I don't care anything about the photos or about the producers' hypocrisy --
as far as I am concerned, Antonella's singing remains the real scandal.

Actually Dag, her singing wasn't all that terrible. Sounded like it has
possibilities, and I'd like to see those possibilities develop.

Someone needs to tell these people those hardcore pictures aren't of
Antonella before they, you know, make idiots of themselves.
Those possibilities would develop best at Disney World or some such place.
She wouldn't be talking about it now if Antonella wasn't allowed to do worse
things than her and still be on the show.
