American Idol Top 2 Finale results show 5-16-2013
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The show begins with the top 10 singing "I'm Glad You Came"

The judges are introduced. Adam Lambert is in da house Nicki is
wearing white pants so tight that they should be illegal with her
hips.

Ryan introduces Kree and Candice and makes some small talk.
There will be performances from The Band Perry and Mariah Carey.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Janelle sings with The Band Perry on some song I never heard of and
can't understand much of the lyrics to. This is exactly the type of
song that I hate. Frenetic, no melody to speak of and lyrics about
hating somebody.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not bothering to write up all the stupid contrived skits and phony
banter that they scripted for this show. Except that Jordin Sparks
tells the guys from the top 10 who were eliminated early not to feel
bad; she says that American Idol losers do really well on The Voice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The five guys from the top 10 -- Paul, Devin, Lazaro, Burnelle and
Curtis sing a 50's medley.
Frankie Valli comes out and sings "You're Just Too Good To Be True"
and a couple of other oldies (I didn't even know he was still alive ).
The five guys sing with him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Mariah Carey sings a medley of her hits next. She's wearing a
gorgeous form-fitting silver and white gown befitting a superstar. I'm
reminded of just how good she really is. Love her or hate her this is
how it's done, folks. Perfect vocals, the songs are part of her,
drawing the audience into her performance.

Mariah says 'Thank you Randy Jackson." (Did you know that Randy
worked with Mariah?) ;-)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Amber Holcomb sings, "Next To Me." Emile Sandé, the artist who
recorded the song, comes out and her and sings it with her.
I like this a lot. "Next To Me" has a great lyrics, a great beat and
a great hook.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They show a Ford Fiesta mission of Candice and Kree inviting special
people to attend the Finale (Candice's grandma and Kree's mentor).
Ford gives them each new Fiestas.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
They actually bring "Psy" out and have him "perform" "Gentleman" (this
is the "Gangnam "style" guy).
Oh, for cripes sake. Why not have William Hung sing next? This is
ridiculous.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Keith Urban sings his new single, "Little Bit Of Everything." It's so
funny to hear this Australian's voice transform into a hillbilly
twang when he sings. I'm not crazy about this song, but I suppose
fans of contemporary country music will love it. Keith can flat play
the guitar!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan talks to Cancice's parents in the audience; Scotty McCreery is
sitting right behind them.

Candice sings, "Inseparable." Jennifer Hudson comes onstage and joins
her in the song. What an awesome duet! Candice is every bit as good a
Jennifer. Wow! Wow! Two true divas showing a complete range of
dynamics from soft and gentle to unbridled belting. (Giggles, I hope
you have your earplugs in, lol). This is a real American Idol
"moment," the kind that will be remembered.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Angie Miller plays the piano and sings "Titanium." Adam Lambert
sings with her. Adam looks good; he's toned down the outrageous hair
and makeup. This is fantastic! With this song, Adam is giving a
master class in how to connect with a song!

The UK's Jessie J., Angie's personal idol, comes out and sings with
Angie. Jessie is bald and is wearing hoola hoops for earrings. The
neckline on her dress plunges to her waist; she's more flat-chested
than I am. She sure can sing! This is the kind of music that Angie
should be singing. Very, very good.

Jessie says she heard that Angie had to compromise by not singing her
new single on the finale in order to sing with her on tonight's show.
So she offers to fly Angie to the UK to do a concert with her and sing
her new single there. Angie accepts. (DUH!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Keith Urban and Kree sing his new song "Where The Blacktop Ends" and
Randy Jackson plays bass. This is another one of those contemporary
country songs that sounds exactly like every other one. I hate it. The
best part about it is Keith's guitar playing.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan says that tonight is the end of an era because tonight we say
good-night to Randy Jackson. They show a montage of Randy on the
show over the years.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Aretha Franklin joins Ryan via satellite. Ryan says that she is an
AI fan and has been invited since season 1 to appear on Idol but she
has a fear of flying. Aretha says that she wants to take this
opportunity to say, "Candice, win or lose you're a winner." Ryan
says, "You don't have the results, do you? And Aretha says, "I do,
but I won't tell you." She looks like she's not joking.

The top 5 girls (Kree, Candice, Angie, Amber and Janelle) sing a
medley of Franklin's hits live with Aretha via satellite. It's
interesting to me that during this medley, Candice is in the center of
the 5 girls with Kree next to her. I would think it would have been
more appropriate to have one of the others in the center and C&K on
each end to be fair.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan gives C&K the keys to their new Ford Escapes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
They show a montage of scenes from this American Idol season with P2's
new song, "Gone, Gone, Gone" playing in the background. "G3" sounds
exactly like, "Home." Same beat, same chord progressions.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Jennifer Lopez performs next, "Live It Up" with Pitbull. This is all
flashy choreography, high tech lighting and is seriously autotuned.
Meh. It's a club dance song and is good for that I guess. It's not
listening music.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kree and Candice sing a medley of the old Marilyn McCoo song, "One
Less Bell To Answer" and "A House Is Not A Home."
They sound great together.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Time for the results. Telescope has counted and verified the results
which are in an envelope handed to Ryan by some accountant-looking
guy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
For the last time this season, Kieran, dim the lights, here we go.
After the nationwide vote the winner of American Idol Season 12 is...
Candice Glover!
All the top 10 join Candice on stage and give her hugs .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Season 12 ends with Candice singing her new winner's single, "I Am
Beautiful."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Best performace of the year! Show stopper!

And pretty much the moment you knew who won. Show really went FU on the "brand" situation on this one.

If Candice wins, how did Mandisa and Lakisha not?

No, it begins with 50 dancers and backup singers....and oh yeah...they
threw in the top 10. Kind of a "where's Waldo" thing. I am going to
pray every day until the next season starts that they NEVER do this
again! No dancers. No backup singers. Just the contestants
PLEASE!

Somewhere in there they showed Taylor Hicks and Bo Bice. Love my

They play that song twice an hour on country radio. Janelle sings it
better.

Did anyone other than Jon Peter Lewis from Idol appear on The Voice
this season? They made it sound like there were more.

They always have to throw in someone from waaaaaay back in the day.

I thought she was lip syncing. Maybe because she couldn't breathe in
that dress. Live or Memorex, she can still sing!

They were honoring mentors. But I think they've watched the show
enough to know the "mentor" would get some kind of prize, so they
picked someone they wanted to get the prize.

They should have had Zoanette instead of him! She was robbed again!

It's a fun song to play while going for a drive.

I totally missed seeing Scotty. I was thinking the only past winner
there was Taylor.

Wow! Now that's how you sing without screeching! There's a big
difference between belting and screeching. Belting is putting more
power into your vocals while still singing within your vocal range.
Screeching is trying to push out notes that are not within your vocal
range. Candice and Jennifer should record together! That was the
best duet of all AI time!

I liked that Adam didn't try to outshine her...which he could have
easily done. She actually didn't screech. Too late now Angie.

She gave her another offer to choose from but I couldn't understand
what she said. Something about a video?

That's not a new song. Josh Gracin I think was the first of many
idols to sing it on AI. It's a fun line dancing song. You are just
going to have to come down south so I can countrify you!

I couldn't keep up drinking shots when they did the reel of him saying
"in it to win it".

She also said that both Candice and Kree were going to have a great
future in music...or something to that effect. Aretha has lost weight
which is wonderful but it left her looking saggy.

Since all they were doing was singing backup for Aretha, it didn't
really matter. And it was even worse when those damn back up singers/
dancers came out. Why bother having the top 5 girls out there if you
are going to hide them?

I didn't know we were voting on which one they would get.

She's kind of gone downhill on her dancing skills. Or maybe that
corset was too tight.

I thought she was going to faint! Especially when Ryan asked her to
say something. Three years of trying was all she could say. That's
more than what I could have said. I probably would have peed in my
designer dress. Congrats to both Candice and Kree! The best two
vocals made the top two!

Psy is awesome! Or was anyway, for about an hour. I hadn't heard his new
song yet, but it turns out it's EXACTLY THE SAME as his previous song. Just
replace "Gangnam Style" with "Gentle Man", that's about it.

On the West Coast feed, it appeared that the sync was off between the sound
and the lips. Awkward and you'd think the networks would have done a better
job.

Nice! That really was a good pairing. Interesting that Angie got two songs
with stars.

Jessie J. is an interesting person. Jessie shaved her head in March to
support some cause, but I don't know which one. Their song together was
excellent and Jessie J. knows how to share a stage. Gracious.

I love Aretha, but I don't think she was singing the same song as the girls.
That was really strange.

------------
Yup. I agree. The two of them need to get a studio and set that one down.
It's better than the coronation song, that's for sure! :)

I have never seen such a horrible results show as far as talent goes. The
only really good song from the guest stars was Adam. I just love his voice.
I FF through most of the rest of that gar-bahge! :-)

Depends, Tim... How much is the machine behind him working to keep it going?

K-Pop is VERY powerful...

Yes, I always thought that Candice had the best voice from just about day
one, but was afraid she was going to get "screwed" with the voters. I was
happy for her! I did hear most of Jesse J, but Angie got on my nerves for
some reason. Angie is very talented without a doubt, but there's something
about her that annoys. :-)

Even leaving Frankie Valli mercifully out of it, this medley was an
absolutely horrible choice for the boys. Singing a bunch of Four Seasons
songs didn't suit any of them. One of the songs in the middle, not one of
them got a solo line and I'm not sure any of them were even harmonizing to
it.

Hard not to notice that all 5 girls got featured solos while none of the
boys did. That's what happens when Lazaro is #6. I think he only got to
sing one line in the whole show.

That's probably all he could remember. It was a far cry from the duet with Cher that
he talked so much about earlier. His most noteworthy action of the night was making
himself ridiculously obvious by standing next to Candice after she was announced
winner and very industriously chewing gum.

I thought Devin sounded really good in the beginning and then it went

That was a bit much and really kind of wild and frantic, and not at
all pleasing.

I saw Taylor, but wasn't watching the season Bo won, so he's not that
familiar to me. I kept searching the audience for past winners, as
thought there would be more there, and then....somehow I missed
Scotty, which can't believe I did. Surprised that Phillip at least
wasn't there, since he won just least season.

I wasn't thrilled about this song either, as like Zob, it's not
exactly the type of country I really like, but I do thought Janelle
sang it better.

His voice, like most of the singers from the "old days" really isn't
all that pleasing, and his was even worse than most.

I didn't pay much attention to whether she was lip syncing, and she
has a powerful voice and I thought she looked like the diva she is,
but I can't say I cared much for it to be honest, though I suppose
others would say it was great.

This I really liked...heard her sing it on DWTS too and it's a catchy
tune, and she's full of energy, which is rather contageous.

I think I might have actually enjoyed that more. I wasn't familiar
with that guy, and hope that's the last time I see him!

Guess I am different (no comments!) but I wasn't really overwhelmed
with love for their duet, but as great as some feel Candice can sing,
her voice has never appealed to me, but as I've always said, I don't
deny she isn't a powerful singer, with great control over her vocals,
but not one I find partiularly pleasant, but I feel the same about
many power-house singers, such as Celine Dion, Barbra Strisend
(spelling?) Whitney Houston, etc.

I have to admit Adam looked much nicer last night than I've seen him
at other times, and did sound very well with "toned down" vocals, and
didn't go into any of his screeches. I enjoyed him more than I did
Angie!

lots of rhythm.

This just seemed to go on and on.....and ON! I'm not that much of a
fan of Aretha's, I guess, but this seemed exceptionally bad and
boring, as it was like she was singing something completely different
than what the girls were, and they weren't on the same page, but could
be because she wasn't appearing live on the show, so probably more
difficult to do.

It's a wonder the winner doesn't choke on that stuff going into their

I forgot to mention, did you notice who didn't perform? Randy
performed with Mariah. Randy performed with Keith and Kree. Keith
performed. Even past judge JLo performed. Hmmm.....who is missing
from the list of judges? Was Nicki not asked to perform or did she
refuse to perform?

They didn't have enough "bleepers" to cover a performance by her.

What would she do? Does she actually sing?

This really was the worst results show/finale ever. I remember when they
used to be real extravaganzas. Almost all of the top people got to perform
with an actual "star". AI really dug up past contestants for this one. I
felt sorry for Kree that all she got was the combo of Randy and Keith! Nicki
must have really *issed people off because they didn't let her do anything.
She must have some sort of number that was suitable to do. It just seemed
odd that all of the other judges got to perform....and they brought back
J-Lo!

I did want Kree to win because I just loved her voice. I have to say that
Candice really came into her own though over the last few weeks. She's been
good all along, but I felt the last few weeks just pushed her beyond.

Well...now I can cross "Survivor" and AI off my list for this season.

Did you hear that "24" is coming back?

.......still watching hockey......

Thanks again, Zob for the recaps!

Nicki said she had already committed to perform her single "High School" at the
Billboard Awards and wasn't permitted to perform it on both there and at Idol. She
wanted to premiere her "High School" video on Idol earlier, but they thought it was
too "risque."

I finally got around to watching the whole finale, and I agree, Adam and
Angie were great! I also liked Janelle and TBP. The rest, I could take

You may like this video of Adam performing "Mad World" in the opening show of Chinese
Idol even more. The show just aired, although it was taped several weeks ago.

I couldn't agree more, I couldn't figure what all the fuss was about
that, the only good thing about it was it showed that Jennifer lost a
lot of weight from her idol days but other than that Jennifer was
waaaaaaaay over the top with her screaming, that was just bad.

I liked the idea that Idol brought back some of their performers to
take part in the show, so for me I ended up watching a lot more of it
than I had planned on seeing. The 3 things that I did speed past on my
DVR was when MC got up there and sang, then when the baldheaded white
chick sang with Angie and finally when Mrs Franklin sang, I thought
she died years ago and by looking at her I think I'm still correct on
that....

I think AI should introduce their past winners that are in the house,
like the NCAA does with their past winners at the heisman trophy award
show, come on AI embrace the past at the same time welcoming in the
new AI.

Good question and that did stand out like a sore thumb, my guess is
because her music wouldn't be suitable for TV.

Well as far as Nicki is concerned, I guess that's what happens when
she showed up late to 2 AI shows this season and those are just 2
shows that we know of, I wonder how many times during the auditions
she held them up...

He's not in jail. He's the one that keeps ending up hospitalized for
seizures, allegedly caused by too much sizzurp. He also got fired by
Mountain Dew a couple of weeks ago.

Finally watched the finale... I liked it... Some things were just stupid - I can't
understand having auto-tuned, lip-synced crap like PSY and Jennifer Lopez on a
singing show... To me, it's like serving McDonalds at a cooking show finale.

I did like some of the past winners/performers coming back. I always like that.
Surprised McCreary or Hicks didn't get a shout-out.... They were clearly in aisle
seats.

For some reason, I got really choked up watching Aretha Frankin. She truly is an
incredible talent. THAT'S what singers should strive to sound like....

Other than that.... Ryan still is the best host EVER on television.... and who knows
what's going to happen with the judges next season.

Was it just me, or did Iovine not even attend??? I remember seeing him in a video
clip, but, was he there/mentioned?

Almost everybody has a sell-by date. As great as Aretha Franklin's career has been
and as nostalgic as it may be to think back on some of her outstanding work, she is
well past hers now, IMO. Idol claims they want to attract younger viewers. They
certainly won't do it by propping up relics like Aretha and Frankie Valli to perform.

Strongly agree!

No...I just meant to now. I've watched every season. The difference is that

entertaining and I enjoy the scenery of the various places they film.

You know... I do see your point... Sometimes, like when they had Lulu on, I was
wondering if I was the only guy that knew who she was.

I'll say this... Even though in my posts, I strongly play up the 'pop' angle of
the show, I think it was wise of them to change the name from the British version.
I *thought* it would attract *singers*, and they would look up to people like
Frankin...

But, seeing pop people like Lopez, and PSY, and whoever they had last year LMAOF
(whoever they were) and that chick who sang the song about taking pictures....
They seem to be going for 'pop' idols.....

Valli was a strange choice.... I liked hearing Grease...but... odd choice... I
mean, if that's the case.. where's Adam Ant and Boy George! :)

Well, that was pretty bad :)

But, I honestly believe he is the best MC I have ever seen on any show...
Sometimes it's the little things he says - he's just always aware of the perfect
joke at the right time... And to keep live shows flowing like that... he's like a
surgeon....

I can't imagine what you'd find annoying... He is truly an American Icon.... This
show is just the first step in a LONG distinguished career IMO..

I really like Ryan and don't find him at all annoying....compared to the
judges! He was my favorite part of this season, and think he does an
excellent job as a host. The first season I ever watched the show (S5) I
wasn't sure about him, but in time, he grew on me, and feel he does an
excellent job.

I just hope they get some decent judges for S13, that are likeable and
compatible with each other and do a good job critiquing the contestants.

They are both great, and so is Nick Cannon as a host for AGT. I'm glad
they got rid of the Kardashian gal on 'X-Factor' and the "jury is still
out" on Mario Lopez, but I guess he's 'okay'.

The show is just going for ratings. I doubt if they really care about
anything else at this point. They know they're not likely to discover
another star like Clarkson or Underwood that they can cash in on, so
it's all about the show itself. So, they're just trying to maximize
ratings by packing the panel and the results shows with popular
entertainers (or at least the closest they can get), not necessarily
great singers. They would probably sell their souls to get a Bieber or
a Swift on the show.
