With most reruns on Sunday night's schedule, it is good to use a good TAR
episode as Sunday night refreshment. Many of 20 million plus Patriot and
Steeler fans also stay to watch 60 Minutes and TAR. Not so much love left
for Cold Case and Shark though, both set series record low ratings. Now
Shark has only 9 million viewers compared to TAR's 12 million. Next fall,
when CBS need to cut something, it will be Shark.

You must also remember that there are far more TV viewers in the 8pm-9pm
slot than there are in the 10pm-11pm slot. That smaller viewer base is
further eroded by numerous local newscasts from 10pm-11pm. (I have my
choice of three local newscasts from 10pm-11pm, including FOX local news.)
7% of an 8pm audience is more than 7% of a 10pm audience.

Fox and some of the independents have exploited the viewers that are
ready to be done with TV by 10 PM (9 CT) in the evening. In my local
market I have 2 news choices in the 9-10 (central) including Fox. And,
until just recently when the Fox affiliate added a 10-10:30 segment, we
only had 2 news choices at 10, as well. The ABC affiliate has tried
twice to make a go of local news and it has failed miserably both times.

Take care,
Rich

So of your big 4 local affils only 2 have news at 10cst?

Fox just added a 10 pm newscast recently, but until a few months ago, yes.

It was a source of humor when the CBS affiliate would advertise thanking
viewers for making it "-THEE- NUMBER ONE NEWSCAST AT 10 PM!!!" Yeah,
number one out of two. Big deal!

This is from CBS press. The Amazing Race 12 is back to Top 10 on ratings for
this week.

"CBS had six of the top 10 programs of the week in viewers including
No. 1, CSI; No. 3, 60 MINUTES; No. 4, RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER;
No. 5, SURVIVOR: CHINA; No. 8, WITHOUT A TRACE; and No. 10, THE
AMAZING RACE 12 (best deliveries in viewers and key demos since its
Nov. 4 premiere)."
