The Wichita Eagle
Ann Walenta was remembered Saturday as a devoted mother, a consummate
and humble musician, and a humorous woman who never complained, even
about the weather.
"You have set me a banquet of love in the face of hatred," a cantor sang
to God during the funeral Mass on Saturday for Walenta. She was 55 years
old, a wife, a mother of two and a cellist with the Wichita Symphony
Orchestra.
Walenta was the last of five people laid to rest as the result of what
prosecutors say was a crime spree last month that encompassed three
separate incidents. The deaths have shaken people in Wichita and far
beyond.
Two brothers, Reginald and Jonathan Carr, have been arrested and charged
in the death of Walenta, shot Dec. 11 in her car outside her home, and
the deaths of Jason Befort, Brad Heyka, Heather Muller and Aaron Sander,
killed Dec. 15. In another case linked to the brothers, a man was
abducted and robbed.
"Shepherd me, oh God, beyond my wants, beyond my fears, from death into
life," the cantor sang at the Mass at the Church of the Magdalen,
attended by about 750 people.
There was mention during the funeral of the violence that at first
paralyzed Walenta, then took her life Jan. 2. But more prominent were
the refrains of Walenta's life of love and of the compassion God has for
the dying and the mourning.
Close friend Dennis Danders read short remembrances of Walenta by
friends and family.
She was remembered for spotting an estate-sale treasure that others had
overlooked and for insisting that it would look great in a friend's
house even when she might have wanted it for herself, for feeling
virtuous planning a diet with a friend even if the plan didn't get put
into practice, for her quiet awareness of goodness and beauty, for her
German chocolate brownies.
Her daughter, Suzanne, wrote of her mother: "When I look into the mirror
I will see her in my face. ... I will see her in her friends. When a
cello begins to play, I will see her and hear her."
Several cellos played before and during the funeral, the strings
lovingly plied by musicians who played with Walenta in the Wichita
Symphony or who had been students of hers. A recording of Walenta
playing cello on a Brahms trio for piano accompanied her casket from the
church afterward.
The Rev. Mike Baldwin, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in
Andover, where Walenta and her family had once been members, read a
passage from the Gospel of Luke. In it, Jesus had such compassion for a
mother grieving the loss of her only son that he stops the funeral
procession and raises the young man to life.
"We have the assurance of Jesus' compassion for those who face death,"
Baldwin said, as well as for the family who mourns.
"Jesus worked in Ann's life to give her a strong love of family" --
husband Don and children Jeffrey and Suzanne --as well as a love of
travel and her passion for music, Baldwin said.
As a child she wanted to play the violin, not the cello, Baldwin said.
Her mother and her teacher thought she had the hands for cello, and when
she began to play publicly, he said, Walenta finally realized the
greatness of her gift. She was also librarian for the symphony and
taught at Friends University.
Throughout her life, Baldwin said, "she didn't complain... In fact, she
was the one who helped all the rest of us find the bright side of what
was going on."
At times during the funeral, a trucker's voice broke in over the
intercom in stark contrast to the solemnity, the result of interference
from the traffic passing by outside on Kellogg.
At the end of the Mass, The Rev. Kenneth Van Haverbeke, pastor of
Magdalen church, recalled the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the
serenity to accept the things I cannot change."
He said that the intercom situation could not be changed, and neither
could Walenta's death.
"Let us pray for those things we can change so we will be prepared to
enter eternal life."
In an act that can only be called terrorism and Police brutality,
Evangelist Vincent Bertollini was followed home yesterdday evening by
three police cars. When Vincent left his vehicle and entered his garage
police followed him into the garage, threw him to the ground and
pummeled him several times. Bertollini suffered a serious injury to his
left eye damaging an inter occulatory transplant performed earlier this
year.
The attack culminates several years of Sandpoint, Idaho police
harrassment of it's citizenry, especially Vincent Bertollini becuase of
unpopular, politically incorrect views that Bertollini holds. Bertollini
is claiming Police brutality, use of excessive force, violation of
Civil Rights, harassment and oppression.
Thank you all and please do whatever you can to help spread the word.

What's informative here is that the claimant -- using an anonymous
account, no less -- failed to provide any information as to what crime
the individual was engaged in when police had to chase him down and
arrest him.

See? No information as to what the suspect was doing and why he was
running from the police.

Ah, that explains a great deal. I wonder what the good reverend was doing
when the police caught him and why he felt he needed to run from the law
-- like the common dope dealer in a stollen car we get so much of here in
Los Angeles. Funny how the individual "forgot" to mention anything about
what his good reverend was doing, huh?

If the fuck's a Christian Identity nutter, one _can't_ committ crimes
against non-whites. And some of these nutters demand that police officers
don't have the authority to arrest, detain, and imprison Christian
Identity followers since some of them want to pretend they're some how
"soverign nations unto themselves." It's a concept that apparently
started with the other nutters: the right wing gun nuts that proclaim
themselves "militia" nutters.

I _will_ spread it. Putting light onto these nutters is much better
than shutting them down so they can fester in the dark.
