Dial, 62, also was ordered by Greer County District Judge Richard Darby to
pay a $1,000 fine, plus court costs and costs related to his capture, said
Greer County Court Clerk Phyllis Denney.
Oh, I had him confused with the guy who ran off with the dog lady. Didn't
this guy originally have a life sentence too?

Convicted killer sentenced on escape charge
MANGUM, Okla. — Randolph Dial, a convicted killer who spent more than a
decade on the run with the wife of a former deputy prison warden before they
were found in East Texas, was sentenced Thursday to seven years in prison on
an escape charge, Greer County court officials said.
Dial, 62, also was ordered by Greer County District Judge Richard Darby to
pay a $1,000 fine, plus court costs and costs related to his capture, said
Greer County Court Clerk Phyllis Denney.
Dial already is serving a life prison sentence on a first-degree murder
charge.
He pleaded no contest to the escape charge in December, giving up his right
to a jury trial.
Before he was sentenced Thursday, Dial's attorney called him to the stand,
and Dial testified that he escaped from prison because he feared he was
targeted for attack by prison gang members, said District Attorney John
Wampler.
"He rambled on for 45 minutes, maybe an hour, about a little bit of
everything," Wampler said. "He said he was in fear for his life ... so he
decided to escape.
"He is entertaining, and that was probably why the judge allowed him to
talk. We didn't object to it, because we wanted to hear if he had any
comments pertaining to the escape."
Dial escaped from the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite in 1994 with
Bobbi Parker, wife of deputy warden Randy Parker. Prosecutors still must
decide whether to charge Dial with kidnapping and whether Bobbi Parker will
be charged with a crime.
Wampler said Dial didn't provide prosecutors with any new details about the
escape, and that a decision is expected "very soon" about whether to pursue
charges against Dial or Bobbi Parker.
"We wanted to get this out of the way and have a chance to at least question
him under oath," Wampler said.
Dial's age, poor health and current life sentence all will be factors
prosecutors consider in whether to file additional charges against him.
"I'm not sure it's worth an expenditure of state funds to pursue that,"
Wampler said.
Dial's attorney, Jim Hines of the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System, declined
comment. Tim Laughlin, the division chief of OIDS non-capital trial
division, said the agency has a policy of not discussing cases publicly.
Dial was convicted in 1986 of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in
prison for the 1981 murder of a Broken Arrow karate instructor. He is
currently housed at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary at McAlester, according
to the state Department of Corrections Web site.
Dial, a sculptor and painter with a master's degree in art, had obtained
trusty status at the Oklahoma State Reformatory, meaning he could stay in
minimum security housing outside the prison walls.
Dial ran an inmate pottery program with Bobbi Parker, used a kiln in the
Parkers' garage and had full access to their home during the day. The
morning of Bobbi Parker's disappearance, her husband saw Dial working in his
garage as he left.
Law enforcement officers acting on a tip found Dial in a mobile home near
Campti, Texas, in April 2005. Bobbi Parker was found nearby unharmed,
working on a chicken farm.
After his capture, Dial said he kidnapped Bobbi Parker at knifepoint then
forced her to live as a hostage.

Remember that other con who escaped with the dog trainer woman? They were
only gone a couple weeks at most. I get the two of these confused with each
other.
