It's great to get an update on one of amerikkka's most courageously honest
serial killers, as well as a personal friend of mine, the one and only
"Gainesville Ripper", killer/mutilator of 5 college students in Florida, in
1990. The news here is NOT particularly good, in fact it is outrageous, but
it's still nice to get an update and see Danny being mentioned by wire
services.
As most of you should know, SEVERAL different books have been written about
Danny. I own FOUR different titles. The BEST of the lot is clearly: "The Making
of a Serial Killer: The Real Story of the Gainesville Murders in the Killer's
Own Words"", by Danny Rolling and Sondra London. Why is this book the best??
Because Sondra chose to act primarily as an EDITOR, and allowed Danny to tell
his OWN life story and fascinating life philosophies, in his OWN words. Nobody
can EVER tell somebody else's story, in a TRUTHFUL manner, better than the
person who has actively LIVED and EXPERIENCED the life that he is writing
about. That is why ALL AUTObiographies are more legitimate, more VALID, than
biographies are.
Ever since this book was published, societal leader-whores of the state of FL
have been PERVERSELY trying to ROB both Danny and Sondra, of the monetary gains
that the book has and is generating. This is done under the INSANE and FASCIST
"Son of Sam" laws, that are designed to brutally discriminate against prison
inmates, and to deny them the same human, civil, and legal rights, protections
AND economic opportunities, that "free" humans enjoy. It is OUTRAGEOUS that ANY
human being who creates an original document, be it a letter, a story, a
drawing, a painting, or an entire book, should be PREVENTED from selling and
gaining monetary profit from his ORIGINAL, UNIQUE, legally created and owned,
and even COPYRIGHTED, material. To make a distinction among humans, and decree
that convicted criminals should NOT be allowed to engage in this free commerce,
despite being a CITIZEN of a CAPITALISTIC society, demonstrates perverse
hypocrisy in it's HIGHEST degree.
In the below update we learn that a judge-whore has once again sided with the
State on this INSANE argument, ruling that thousands of dollars that Sondra was
paid by a tabloid newspaper, for the publication of excerpts from the book,
actually BELONGS to the State, and she cannot collect a single penny of this
money. Absolutely INSANE, for the State to TAKE and seize money that was
GENERATED through the LEGAL creation of a book, through the combined literary
and artistic efforts of two amerikkkan citizens, Danny and Sondra.
This seizure, as well as all of the Son of Sam and other laws that DENY
prison inmates the right to earn money by engaging in legal commerce, are
SPECIFICALLY designed to try and DISCOURAGE prison inmates from revealing their
True Realities to the world, AND even more importantly, to try and discourage
PUBLISHERS and literary friends of the prisoners, from HELPING to get such
autobiographical books into print, and distributed. I am HONORED that Danny
chose to courageously share his True Reality in this autobiographical book. And
I thank Sondra and Feral House Press, for choosing to HELP immortalize Danny by
giving him the chance to express himself, in his OWN book, rather than to be
ARROGANT enough to write a book ABOUT him, but to LIMIT his ability to express
himself.
As far as I'm concerned, DANNY is FAR more worthy of getting the bulk of the
profit money, than Sondra is. He WROTE the book. His story is the focus of the
book. Without Danny's input, the book would not exist. In a sane society, NO
type of restriction on Danny's ability to KEEP the profits generated from the
book, or from ANY other type of sale of his paintings, letters, even autograph,
would exist. If Danny & Sondra struck a legal agreement prior to the writing of
the book, in which both of them agreed that Sondra would get all or most of the
money to keep and do with as she saw fit, I would not OBJECT to the legitimacy
of such an agreement. But I do feel that it is Danny who DESERVES to receive at
least 75% of all profits generated by HIS writings, HIS book, even if Sondra
served as a positive, encouraging force in GETTING him to write the book, and
of course also edited it and worked out publication details with Feral House
Press.
The argument that the monetary seizure, denying even Sondra, who has NEVER
been convicted of any act of murder, or even of any FELONY, as far as I know,
is justified because Sondra was "acting on Danny's behalf" in editing & helping
get the book published, is INSANE. She had every right to act on his behalf,
and the two of them had every right to form a "business", sell Danny's
writings, paintings, autographs, etc..., as THEY wished, via a PRIVATE, signed
legal agreement, and to be subjected to NO type of societal or governmental
interference of their CAPITALIST rights and freedoms, the SAME rights &
freedoms that EVERY person who resides in amerikkka, deserves to have upheld in
their favor.
The specific FL law decrees that the seized money is to be: "Shared by a
crime compensation fund, the families of the victims, and any dependents of the
convicted felon, as well as covering the cost of prosecution." All FOUR avenues
of fund distribution are PERVERSE. There is no reason why Danny should be
MONETARILY punished for the acts he committed, which involved NO monetary
theft. There is no reason why the relatives of the victims that Danny harvested
should be able to get rich by virtue of having been "lucky" enough to enjoy the
random fate of having THEIR loved one killed by Danny. If Danny has any
"dependents", HE should be allowed to DECIDE whether or not he wants any of his
legally earned money to be given to his dependents. And of course item #4, in
which Danny's money is used, AGAINST his will, to REPAY the STATE for the
expenses it incurred in COMMITTING the outrageous TORTURE and INJUSTICE upon
him that the judicial system has done, is by far the MOST perverse usage of the
money.
Nice to see that Sondra's web site, a courageous and unique site that allows
societal victims turned killers to EXPRESS themselves honestly and with no
censorship, gets mentioned in these articles. Also nice to see Sondra
expressing herself bluntly and truthfully, as she is famous for doing, in her
comments about this outrageous judicial ruling. And it's even nicer to get
confirmation that Danny is right NOW in the process of APPEALING his 1990
conviction & legal murder sentence. Even though his chances of WINNING the
appeal are extremely slim, I am glad my friend is TRYING, and from what I hear,
his mood these days is pretty good. I am HONORED to think that I may have
played a small role in helping lift his spirits, through my contact with Danny.
Stay Strong, Danny!
Take care, JOE

Condemned killer's earnings forfeited
December 1, 1999
STARKE, Fla., Dec. 1 (UPI) A judge ruled Wednesday that thousands of dollars
paid for the story of condemned Gainesville student murderer Danny Rolling will
be released to the state of Florida.
Sondra London, the former fiancee of the Death Row inmate, was paid $15,000
when The Globe tabloid published the book, "The Making of a Serial Killer,"
which recounted the story of the slayings in 1990.
The state sued to take the money in 1993 under the Son of Sam law, which bars
convicted felons from profiting from their crimes.
Although the engagement had ended and London claimed she was a freelance
writer, the court agreed with the state's contention that she was acting on his
behalf.
Any other money paid for drawings and autographs prepared by Rolling will also
be forfeited to the state.
In 1997, Circuit Judge Martha Lott ruled that the funds should be released to
the state under the law. Wednesday's ruling by Circuit Judge Elzie Sanders in
Starke, Florida, home of Florida State Prison where Rolling is incarcerated,
was made after the First District Court of Appeals upheld the 1997 ruling.
The money has been held in trust pending the appeals, but will now be
transferred to the state.
The law specifies that the money will be shared by a crime compensation fund,
the families of the victims, and any dependents of the convicted felon, as well
as covering the cost of prosecution.
Diana Hoyt, stepmother of victim Christa Hoyt, said this was the best day she
had had in court for years. She said Rolling should not be memorialized because
he had committed a horrendous crime.
The families may use their share of the money to set up a scholarship fund in
the names of the victims or for a memorial park.
London did not attend the hearing in person, but participated via speakerphone.
She said she had moved to another state after receiving death threats in
Florida.
Sanders also ruled that London must provide an accounting every six months of
any additional funds or assets belonging to Rolling that she possesses.
She claimed Wednesday no money had been earned since Rolling's conviction, but
attorneys for the state think about $6,000 is missing. London still maintains a
Web site offering some of Rolling's drawings and autographs for sale.
Rolling confessed to killing Christa Hoyt, Sonya Larson, Manuel Toboada, Tracy
Paules, and Christina Powell and was sentenced to death five times in 1994. He
is currently appealing that sentence.

Judge approves distribution of money from sale of Rolling story
STARKE, Fla. (AP) - Money from the sale of serial killer Danny Rolling's grisly
account of five Gainesville student murders will go to the families of his
victims and not to Rolling or his former fiancee.
Circuit Judge Elzie Sanders ruled Wednesday that $15,000 being held in trust
for a series of articles written by Rolling and marketed by Sondra London
belonged to the state and the crime victims.
But the state is passing on its share of the money, meant to pay for the cost
to prosecute Rolling. And at least one family also does not want it.
``It's blood money and we don't want it,'' said Ann Garren, mother of Christa
Hoyt, one of Rolling's five victims slain in Gainesville in August 1990.
State Attorney Rod Smith said he had been talking with the families about
donating the money to a new victims' park in Gainesville or for a college
scholarship.
A Florida law prevents criminals from profiting from their crimes and any money
made is supposed to go to crime victims and the state.
Sanders ordered the money transferred to the Crime Victims Compensation Fund
following an hour-long hearing which Ms. London attended via telephone.
``As far as I know, it's the first case in which an appellate court here in
Florida ... ruled that the money was to be paid to the state and you weren't
entitled to use your crimes or your boyfriend's crimes as a source of your
personal profit,'' Smith said.
Sanders also ordered Ms. London, a freelance writer who lives in Atlanta, to
make an accounting every six months of all her receipt and sale of any letters,
autographs or art work produced by Rolling, who is on death row at Florida
State Prison, about 10 miles away from Starke.
The judge said a hearing would be held later on about $6,000 Ms. London may
have collected for selling Rolling's story and artwork on her Web site.
Ms. London, who has written three books with Rolling on his crimes, objected to
the judge's order on the accounting.
``They can shake me down every six months for the rest of my life without
limit,'' she said.
Sanders' action frees up the money which has been held in trust since the state
won its civil lawsuit against the convicted killer and Ms. London almost two
years ago.
In September, the 1st District Court of Appeals in Tallahassee agreed with the
ruling of Circuit Judge Martha A. Lott that Ms. London acted on Rolling's
behalf when she earned money for stories and books about the mutilation
murders. Rolling pleaded guilty to the slayings.
In addition to Ms. Hoyt, the victims were Christina Powell, Tracy Paules,
Manuel Taboda and Sonya Larson.
Ms. London and Rolling are listed as the co-authors of a book published in 1996
called, ``The Making of a Serial Killer: The Real Story of the Gainesville
Murders in the Killer's Own Words.''
In her 1997 ruling, Lott also said the money from the sale of Rolling's art and
autograph, available through a Web site that names Ms. London as the exclusive
agent, also belongs to the state.
Her Web site also lists two other books by Rolling, ``Confession: A Triple
Murder,'' which details his rape and murder of a young woman and two other
family members in Shreveport, La., in 1989, and ``Legends of the Black Marsh,
Gothic Fables.''
Rolling, although a suspect in the Shreveport killings, was never charged.
In a telephone interview, Ms. London said, ``This is bad law.''
Ms. London said she is simply a writer who wants to be paid for her work.
The appeals court did not rule on the constitutionality of the law, known as
the Son of Sam law.
``It's unconstitutional and everyone knows that,'' she said.
