which to order. Mace, pepper spray, stun gun, taser? Do I want a stream
spray of pepper spray/mace, or do I want a fogger? Same thing with bear
spray? Do I want a taser or a stun gun, etc.

I think high voltage stun guns that have some length to them are what
I would buy. I owned a palm sized model for a while that fortunately,
I never had to use. Still, I think they are better than mace, because
mace does not work on vicious dogs and sometimes does not work on
people that are severely under the influence of drugs. I am not a law
enforcement officer, though, just a citizen.

I wouldn't buy any products like this unless I had training and practice in
defending myself, and could rely on myself to be able to whip out and use
the product when needed.

I like weapons that don't look like weapons, for better chance of
deployment and less chance they'll be grabbed and used against you.
There are pepper spray devices that look like a pager, there are stun
guns that look like a cell phone. As I've stated before, I'm a fan
of stun guns, because if someone grabs you you're already in close
quarters so you can apply it anywhere. When grappling it might be
hard to get pepper spray or mace aimed at the face, and you'll get
quite a dose yourself. I've had burning eyes just from having to
manhandle someone after they were pepper sprayed by someone else.
I use a stun gun that's a short baton type and has an LED flashlight
built in, which can be handy when in a dark area. Some also have
alarms built in, if you think that might help.

Here's why guns aren't such a good choice:
If you're on a dark street are you going to walk along with the gun in
your hand? Nope. So if you're jumped, it's in your purse or in a
holster, doing no good. Are you going to walk around with the safety
off and a round in the chamber? Good way to accidentally shoot
yourself or someone else, but if you have to release the safety and
rack a round up, it takes too long.
Now compare this to a stun gun or pepper spray. You will walk down
the street carrying that in your hand. A stun gun will have a small
safety switch that you can keep your thumb on, easy to have it good to
go in a fraction of a second.
As for a .357 Magnum, what a lousy choice, shows the poster doesn't
know jack about guns. Much too large and heavy, and rounds will punch
through walls and kill innocent bystanders. Duh. Typical of people
who mistake a gun for a penis proxy.

Sorry, I should have elaborated more. My mind was elsewhere earlier, and I
was frustrated after perusing a site selling just about everything. I only
became more and more confused as to the many choices. I already own a S&W,
.357 and it's neither large nor heavy. It's a bit smaller, only six shots,
whereas dh's holds seven. I've thought of carrying that, but would prefer
something else.
I'm looking for something to use against a rather large, aggressive pit
bull, just in case. I don't think a small .22 would even make a dent. This
is one of those block-headed, really wide-jawed, very muscular pit bulls.
Both mace and bear spray had been suggested to me. Do I want a stream spray
or I think it was a *fogger*? And do I want a taser or a stun gun? It's
hard to figure out which products would be best for my needs simply from
reading the descriptions in a catalog. I thought this would be a good place
to ask. Somehow my little pocket sized pepper spray doesn't *feel* adequate
for this situation.

I'm guessing you didn't read my email? I explained it's *situation*. It
isn't *loose*, but it's on a *run*, a rope or cord strung between two
tree's. Does NOT look anywhere near strong enough to hold a dog of this
size and aggression level. And I don't want to see my dogs injured or worse
trying to protect me.

I would be worried that the tether may break, too, snapping when the
dog is angry.
Can you file a police report ahead of time and ask that the tether be
strengthened?
I think if you start walking around with weaponry, the situation may
escalate in the wrong direction.

Perhaps saddest of all, the bikes remain silent about the hell they
