Austrian Kidnap Victim Buys House of Horrors Where She Spent 8 Years in
Dungeon
Thursday, May 15, 2008

A 20-year-old Austrian woman who was held captive for eight years now owns
the house near Vienna in which she was imprisoned and kept in a dungeon,
SkyNews reported.

Natascha Kampusch was kidnapped at the age of 10 in 1998 by Wolfgang
Priklopil, who threw himself in front of a train after her dramatic escape
in 2006.

Kampusch told German magazine Bunte that she wanted to keep the house where
she was held to protect it from vandals and stop it being torn down, SkyNews
reported.

"I know it's grotesque - I must now pay for electricity, water and taxes on
a house I never wanted to live in," she said.

Kampusch said she has visited the house since her escape.

"Nothing is as threatening as it was back then," she said. "But at the same
time, it's still a house of horrors for me."

Kampusch will testify Thursday in a civil court case in which her mother,
Brigitta Sirny, contests claims by a retired judge that she was an
accomplice in her daughter's kidnaping, basically giving her daughter away
to him, The Earth Times reported.

Why would you want that house!?!

Her mother possibly gave her daughter to him? Sounds like that case we've
been talking about in the thread "Man accused of keeping teens as sex
slaves" whose mom gave her daughter to a sick SOB in marriage.

I'm thinking that , in some ways, this girl's thought processes are
closer to those of a 10 year old (age of captivity) than those of a
20 year old. I'm guessing thst she will lose any civial awards that
seh got or will get out of this.

Which way is Kampusch going to testify? Against her mother presumably? I can
see why she'd want to own the house. What a victory that might be, IMO. Make
it what it is - only a house. Be neat if she turned it into a community
centre for abused people, something like that. If she can afford it.

She doesn't seem to be lacking in funds. She donated 25,000 pounds or
dollars to the Elisabeth Fritzl. Plus bought this house. In interviews she
sounds like she has a clear head, IMO.

Natascha defends her mother
15/05/2008 19:15 - (SA)

Vienna - Austrian kidnap victim Natascha Kampusch appeared in court on
Thursday in the southern Austrian town of Graz, to testify in defence of her
mother, who is accused of helping orchestrate her daughter's abduction in
1998.

"We hope this absurd theory will be dismissed once and for all," Kampusch's
lawyer Gerald Ganzger told German television N-TV.

Kampusch's mother, Brigitta Sirny, has been accused by retired judge and
self-proclaimed detective Martin Wabl of organising her daughter's
kidnapping to cover up the sexual abuse of the then 10-year-old girl.

Kampusch, now 20-years-old, was kidnapped on her way to school in 1998 and
held for over eight years in a basement near Vienna before escaping in
August 2006.

Her captor, Wolfgang Priklopil, committed suicide by throwing himself under
a train on the night of her escape.

Kampusch testified on Thursday in her mother's defence behind closed doors.

First appearance in court

This was her first appearance in court since her escape almost two years
ago.

The young woman had already dismissed Wabl's accusations in several
interviews, adding she had never been sexually abused as a child.

Police have also said they believe Priklopil acted alone.

This is the latest in a series of court cases involving Sirny and Wabl, who
voiced suspicions about the mother before Kampusch reappeared.

Sirny later accused the retired judge of slander.

Kampusch's father, Ludwig Koch, who also testified in court, said he could
not be sure whether or not his ex-wife had known Priklopil before the
abduction.

What's the court case about then? How can third parties bring any kind of
action? And Kapmpusch defends her mother, what's the deal?

Huh? She's been interviewed quite a bit lately. No indication of "fried
sensibilities" as far as I can see. What do you mean about "maintaining...
'abused people' charges... in captivity"? I don't know what you mean? Could
be I've just had a longggg day... Sorry to be thick.

Oh. Well, actually I've read several interviews, or articles where she's
quoted extensively - I am impressed by her (seemingly) clear head and
maturity. But, who knows? You're thinking her buying the house might flag an
intent to do to others what was done to her? Whoa. I gotta say, that would
not have occurred to me in a million years. How creepy would that be? Oooh.
Oh no.

Me either. Besides, for the most part, this seems to be more of a male
dominated crime. Yes, we have heard of a few mothers who have imprisoned
their children, but I think the majority of these typ of crimes are
committed by males against females for the purpose of sex.

I agree. There would be something very strangely liberating about
buying a place where you've been horribly abused in your adult years.
The urge might be to make a bonfire of it, but I think if you could
rise above that and just "let it be", so to speak, you would have
reclaimed a large part of your injured soul.

That would be awesome. :-)

I thought that LE could bring its own case when it comes to felony
crimes. Otherwise, how'd they prosecute murders?

This was a case propelled by third parties, IIUC. I don't know what the law
is regarding what charges can be brought solely by LE v. complaints sworn
out by others though.
