Chinese artist to eat dead baby on TV

Channel 4 is to broadcast a programme showing a performance artist
eating the flesh of a dead baby.

Beijing Swings looks at the extreme practices of some artists in China.

It has been condemned by the Chinese embassy in London.

The documentary will be broadcast on Thursday night, just over a month
after Channel 4 came under fire for showing a live autopsy.

It features stills of Zhu Yu, the artist, biting into the body of a
stillborn infant.

He told Media Guardian: "No religion forbids cannibalism. Nor can I find
any law which prevents us from eating people.

"I took advantage of the space between morality and the law and based my
work on it."

A spokesman for Channel 4 said: "The programme will be controversial and
will shock some viewers but a warning will be given before it goes out
on air."

Seems some TV stations will do anything for ratings.

That's where I saw them but don't you think they look sort of fakey?

They did seem to be fake at the time, I'm not so sure now.
The Japanese are known to do a lot in bad taste, a bit like the UK's
Damian Hurst, .....have you ever seen their gameshow "Endurance"?

Never saw that. I'm not big on those "reality" show, like Survivor et al. Is
Endurance like that one that we have in the states, I forget the name of it,
about things the people are scared to death of? Rats, snakes, etc.

It's similar but more extreme than "Fear Factor".
It's basically a long-running gameshow based around the systematic
torture of the contestants who basically play until they drop out, last
one standing wins.

Fear Factor, yes, that's the name, completely slipped my mind. Wonder why so
many people are fascinated by those type of shows. But then, I also wonder why
people watch Jerry Springer, Maury Povitch and the like.

Korporate Kulture: if it can be sold - it will be sold. Korporate Kulture is

I think it might be an attempt to see that others have lives more screwed up
than the people who watch those shows. Pretty desperate.

I liked Phil Donohue years back,.. the political themes, the best.

Fear Factor, the boy watches... if I want to be in the living room, be default,
I watch, too. Pretty disgusting. I've got a weak stomache,... so I gag when
that show is on,.. and wind up going to my room to read, if the men of the
house out-vote me.

Democracy,...

I think - personally- it is immoral and unethical to eat the flesh of a
deceased baby. I don't care if it is real or imagined,.. somehow, by
expressing our "rights" and "artistic" outlets, we seem to demean ourselves, as
a race. So, after this poorly decided upon feature happens,.. what do we leave
as sacred? Anything?

I am trying to become the person I imagine myself to be, have patience.

You must have hated the Industrial Revolution. Babies were fed to machines.
It's a perfect metaphor.

People are always keen to watch someone who is in a worse predicament
than they are or who has bigger problems than they have, it sort of
helps to put your own problems into perspective,.........unless of
course your wife has run off with your sister and you've just killed
your mother-in-law and stuffed her body in a ditch somewhere.

Some random observations:

1. Japan...China....not the same country.

2. The problem with eating a dead Chinese baby is that, 40 minutes later,
you're hungry again and want to eat another one.

3. Wonder how much MSG they add to those?

What can I say. This story just screams for, ahem, tasteless comments.
