Who wouldn't ask so many questions if he could remember G1
My guess is they looked that way--in robot mode--even on Cybertron, before
they came to earth. I DO seem to remember that Bumblebee's robot mode was
exactly the same on Cybertron as it was on earth, even though his vehicle
mode on 20th century earth was a Volkswagon(made that way by Teletran 1).

Uhm, to sum it up in a quick two words?
"Beast Mode."
====================
"Not only did you FAIL to destroy the Maximals when you had the chance, you
FAILED to bring us to the right planet! We stole the golden disk for nothing!
Megatron, you are an idiot." --Dinobot (Beast Wars: Part One)
It means pieces of the alternate mode (Beast mode, vehicle mode) being not only
visible, but actually hanging off the robot body. IE the Doors hanging off of
Prowl's shoulders, and the Crab Legs/Claws on Rampage's robot mode. They are
not part of an anthropomorphic robot, hence they are kibble.

Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Jazz, the seeker jets, Soundwave, and Laserbeak
were shown in vehicle mode in MTMTE. Bumblebee was some kind of hovercraft,
Wheeljack was kind of like a Cybertron van (probably a transport), the
seekers were flying pyramids, Jazz was a racer or something (actually, Jazz
is the only Earth TF who's Cybertron mode appears in Marvel's Transformer
Universe Guides), Soudwave was a tower, and Laserbeak was some kind of alien
bird. (It appears in the toon version, the cassettes are the "normal" mode
and the robot animal is the alt mode, which is countered by Rumble and
Frenzy.)
