I feel fer ya, man. I've still got the Autobot 84 groupshot I
purchased at "last" BotCon sitting around rolled up. It's
amazing that it's still unkrinkled or stepped on.
The Geoff Senior Art I got was the same size (11x17),
so I got a 16x20 frame and stuck it in there, matte-less
and everything. I'm not leaving THAT sucker out, no,
matted or not.
I suspect the reason Khanna's art is 11x17 is the same
reason mine is when I print it out. I go to Kinkos, and
their cheaper sizes are 8.5x11 and 11x17. If you want
a custom size, you pay more.

DO NOT HAVE A MICHAEL'S EMPLOYEE FRAME IT FOR YOU. I can't
reiterate this enough. They overcharge and their mat-jobs aren't
that great. You can usually go to the back of the store at
Michael's and Hobby Lobby depending on what region you are in
and find these basic black metal frames that you piece together
yourself. These will be by all of the premade frames that you by
off the shelf. Then you go to a glass shop and get an 11x17
peice of glass that they will cut for you.
That will cost you about 20 bucks tops altogether. If you are
dead set on getting it matted....maybe ask michael's to "make* a
mat that will fit an 11x17 piece although i don't know how much
they charge for that.
It is the same principal as Kinkos.....NEVER let them do the
copies for you. Their is a standard markup fee for their labor.
Just do it yourself.
And 11x17 is very common, btw....they just must be on crack.
Sorry about your rude awakening with Michael's dude....I know
how you feel.

Ooooooh....Michael's is evil... Really evil. :( My best advice to you
is...Well, learn to make frames and mats yourself! That's what I did, many
years ago. I do needlework and places charge an arm and a leg to frame
needlework. So I learned to do it myself. It's relatively easy to do and the
"raw materials" are cheap. The most expensive thing is the glass but you can
use less-expensive acrylic instead... Check at local art supply stores (Or
even at Michaels! :) ); most of them offer inexpensive framing workshops.
It'll be useful if you plan to buy more fan-made artwork (I have a large
collection, myself.) It'll save you money in the long run. Though if you're
only ever going to get that one print, it might not be worth your time or
effort...
Soooooo...Other than that...Well, this is going to sound a mite strange, but
try small needlework shops. Call them if you don't feel comfortable walking
in to what is pretty much a female-dominated domain. :) Most needlework
projects are not a standard frame size when finished, so some smaller
needlework shops (Those not owned by a big chain like Michael's or A.C.
Moore) have set up little custom frame shops within their own shops, and
they're generally cheaper than places that specialize in framing prints and
stuff. Now, some of them won't work with prints, but it never hurts to ask.
:) And even those who DON'T work with prints might be able to give you a
lead as to an inexpensive local custom framer...
My best advice is still to learn to do it yourself, though, if you plan to
collect prints and fan art, in general, as I do. And bear in mind that, no
matter HOW much you pay for a print or a painting, the frame and getting it
framed is generally going to cost you more than you paid for the piece of
art, sometimes several times more. Unless you do it yourself, that is...
Speaking of needlework, though... I just found a program that will convert a
picture into a counted cross-stitch or needlepoint pattern. Heh...Guess what
I'm gonna make patterns for?? :) TF faction symbol pillows, here I come! TF
character portraits in cross stich, here I come! Whee! :) So sue me.
Needlework is the one and only "girl" thing I do. Well, that and my nails...

Sort of. 11x17 is an odd frame size, but they have them at Target. At
least, whenever I needed one, they had them (I have a few of Dan's work
framed).

Geez, Scylla! Don't tell me you do needlework, too! Geez, both TF fans. Both
female. Both on the older end of the TF fan age scale (I believe I saw
somewhere that you're 32? I'm 35.) Both vegetarian, as I think you said you
are. Both nocturnal...Are you sure you're not one of my escaped
personalities??? :)
No, seriously, I'm downloading the conversion program as we speak...er,
type...It says you can convert almost any graphic (Including .gif and .jpg
images) into a chart. Or you can scan photos in and graph them. Up to 100
colors and 500 stitches X 500 stitches per pattern. Backstitching has to be
added manually, I believe, but I think I can handle that. I've done enough
patterns completely freehand in my time, after all... The program's
shareware, so I'll test it out and if it works as well as I'm hoping it'll
work, I'll pay for it and churn out patterns like you would not believe...
I'm thinking that some of Dan Khanna's single-character pics would make
REALLY nice projects if the color reduction comes out all right. They'd be
challenging, too, with all of the shading involved... And faction symbol
pillows for the couch in our game room--which is where most of my TF toys
live--are an absolute MUST. They'd probably be rather easy to stitch, too,
especially if I reduce the colors in them...They'd look mighty nifty
stitched on black Aida cloth... Apparently the program tells you how much
floss will be needed, too... (and in what colors, of course.) I think this
might be a lot of fun...
And of course I'll share the patterns! I could print 'em out and snail mail
'em, or I think the program description said that you can save patterns in
various formats (.bmp and .eps were two that I'm pretty sure I saw.), so I
suppose I could email 'em. Or if I could figure out how to do it, I could
put 'em up for download on my website, I guess... You never know... If I get
into this enough I might just have enough stuff to sell at Botcon next
year. I mean, when I get into my stitching, I get into my stitching! :) I've
been doing it since I was 5, after all. :) Anyway, just give me a few days
to play with the program, and I'll let ya know what I come up with...
Got any requests? Got any pics on your hard drive you want to email to me?
G1 screen captures could be QUITE nifty... (I doubt BW/BMac would work so
well, with the 3D angle...) :) Any other stitchers lurking around out there
who might be interested in TF needlework-y stuff, while I'm at it? Let me
know...

Tsk tsk. I buy it all because I know sooner or later that little
completist voice in my head will keep me up nights if I don't and then
I'll have to pay more since the stores won't still have them.
I finally gave up on the frame after having similar problems and (oh,
the horror) just laminated it. Staples carries self-laminating sheets
or what I bought, a roll of the stuff. 18" by 8 yards (or some
ridiculous amount) for $8 or so. I'm going off to college in the fall
so it'll be easier to hang up this way anyway.

Yup, I got a kilt to wear to the opera, theatre, symphony, that sort of

Yeah. Yeah, I might as well, I suppose. Better get it now than pay
more later. The best thing would be to overcome the completist urge.
But I have so many other personality traits to work on that this one is
actually low priority right now...
Well, the main difference being, I think these things and you say them.
:p But nothing wrong really with being bawdy; I was just pointing out a
difference. Strawberries and kiwis are different but both yummy. :)

Double entendre seems a big part of Renfair, period. Or maybe wenchhood.
:D I used to be in the Society for Creative Anachronism (the medieval
re-enactment group, for the uninitiated) and I was a wench then so I

I've heard many a court go-er wish for the cooler garb of wenchhood. :)
I always wonder why Renfairs are held during the hottest times of the
year. And here, they moved it to an even hotter place. Are they
deliberately courting sunstroke? Especially with all the ale consumption.

Ooooh...kilt... :)
My hub is Scottish (Even plays the bagpipes...sort of...much to my chagrin.
:) Thank Primus we don't have neighbors... :) ). Well, he's Scotch-Irish,
but when you get right down to it, there's not much difference between the
Scots and the Irish... Anyway, when we go to RenFaire, he does the whole
Scottish thing, kilt and all. And a claymore, of course. He digs the fact
that at RenFaire he gets to wear the claymore that's been in his family for
hundreds of years. I don't know how he lugs that thing around. He got a back
carrier made for it a few years ago, which makes it easier, though...
Anyway, we had authentic costumes made in his family's tartan (And he's had
his kilt forever. He got married in it. :) )
It's too bad we all don't live close together. I could see a bunch of ATTers
and their significant others trekking off to a RenFaire... :) Would be quite
interesting, methinks... :)
Aye, 'tis good for the soul, RenFaire is. A little anachronism is a good
thing.

Mmmmm...The toys are insidious that way. For the longest time, I resisted
buying the BW toys. But then, as I got more into the cartoon, I decided I
would buy JUST the characters that made it onto the show. Well, needless to
say that went out the window pretty quickly... :) I discovered that I really
like the BW/Mac toys, yeeesss... In fact, call me a blasphemer (Because I
am, but that's beside the point. ;) ), but I tend to like the Beast toys
better than I like most of the G1s. I do! Can't help it. I think it's
because I'm an animal person. I always tended to like the G1 animal-based
toys, so I guess it's only natural that I ended up liking the "Beast" toys.
And I REALLY like the BMac Vehicons. They've got the "vehicle-ness" of the
G1 toys and the posability and articulation of the BW toys. Truly the best
of both worlds, IMO... Then again, I also like the BMac Maximal toys, too.
Even the goofy-looking Op Primal, whom I finally bought not all that long

Grimlock/Sludge, I tell you! Grimlock/Sludge! :)
> Oh, you wear a kilt? Nothing like the sight of guys' knees, I say.
Well, the "knee effect" is better when they're wearing a kilt as opposed to,
say...shorts. After all, when they're in a kilt, you never know when an
errant breeze might show off more than their knees. ;)
I'm being bawdy again, aren't I? Sorry... :)
> :) I go dressed as a pirate, of course, though not a femme space pirate.
When I was actually part of the troupe, I started out as a
bawdy-ballad-singin' wench. (Imagine that! :) I think that's where I
developed my taste for double entendre, actually. RenFaire bawdy ballads are
full of 'em... ) Of course, my voice left much to be desired, but that was
part of my...er, charm... :) That and wet muslin... ;) By the last season I
worked, though, I'd made it all the way up to lady-in-waiting on the queen
herself. Frankly, I liked being a wench better. As a lady-in-waiting, I was
wearing a corset and about four layers of clothes--the top-most layer of
which was heavy brocade or velvet--on 100+ degree summer days. Not fun. As a
wench, water had much to do with my and my fellow wenches' act, so the three
of us stayed blessedly cool. :)
But now, as a non-actor, hubby and I go as Celtic peasants. The tartans are
wool, but they're surprisingly cool. The insulation workd both ways. It
keeps heat OUT, too. :)

Thankfully, I don't have a completist urge when it comes to TF toys of any
generation. I buy what I like, and that's it. if I don't have every last
toy, it doesn't bother me in the least. For this reason, I have no BMac
Cheetors of any size, for instance. I don't find them very attractive and
his character doesn't grab me. So I didn't buy him and don't intend to. I DO
have Injector, though. He's so ugly he's cute. Had to have him. :) BMac
Cheetor just doesn't quite reach that level, so I feel no need to have
him...

You want some what? (Sorry, Scylla's put me in a bawdy frame of mind by
pointing out that I'm bawdy. :) )
No, seriously, you want patterns, I'll get ya patterns. :) Got any requests?

Yeah, I plan on getting married in mine too. Except I'm going to get a
black katana blade instead of a claymore. (I'm a very traditional guy
but I like to be the one *starting* the traditions... ;-)
I don't play the bagpipes yet, but I do have the chanter reed and
occasionally practice.

Yeah, that's what happened to me too.

After reading this whole thread: Where is this Faire held, in fact?
Which kind of fits in with the vanity and the alone-ness that the vanity
is probably compensating for. Heh, fanfic fodder. :)
Well, the Northern California Renaissance Faire will be held in
Vacaville, CA. It's about 64 miles Northeast of San Francisco, on the
wrong side of the bay.
website: http://www.renfair.com/NorthernCA/index.htm
If you just go to renfair.com you can see the list of other Faires
around the US.

And one is fuzzy! :) I like fuzzy things. That's why I own three big, fuzzy
Himalayan cats. :) Anyway, as for thinking things and not saying
them...That's a talent I need to learn. :) True wisdom is found when one
shuts one's mouth. Or, as Soundwave might say, "The secrets of the universe
are revealed to those [who keep their big mouths shut and] listen." :)
> Double entendre seems a big part of Renfair, period. Or maybe wenchhood.

So was I! Weird! :) As for double entendre...I often wonder where the
tendency came from at RenFaires... I mean, yeah, there are authentic bawdy
medieval ballads, but I truly doubt that such bawdiness was a part of
every-day medieval life. Yet it's ubiquitous at RenFaires. That and what I
call "fun with curse words." Ever gone rat pucking? I don't know if it's at
all RenFaires, but its always at PA's. I was a town ratcatcher one year
(After my wenchhood, before my courthood :) ) "Pucking" is sort of like
golfing with rats. So it was me and my "husband" wandering around the town
with cricket bats and toy rats, whacking the rats around the streets with
the bats. We'd go 'round yelling, "GET OUT OF THE PUCKING WAY!" and doing it
"in character," of course, Elizabethan accent and all... and then we'd whack
rats at clueless faire-goers who didn't heed our advice. :) 'Twas fun! I
think I had the most fun at the Faire that year, of the five summers I was
involved... :)

Heh...I'd be up for a winter Faire...But somehow I don't think it would
bring in the tourists that it brings in in the summer... :) But yeah, I know
the ambulance was often at PA's Faire, though more for the guests than for
the troupe. We had air-conditioned rooms to retreat to when things got too
hot, after all... :) Big wimps, we were. :)
> I like Injector very much, myself. Same thing, so ugly he's cute and I

I have this whole vision in my head of Injector-as-Quasimodo. Really I do.
They just need a belfry at Predacon Central, and the image would be
complete. :)

Oh, believe me I do. But when there's a toy I want that I can't find, look
out! :)
> Injector rules. I don't care what anyone says. His eyes have a tragic

He's Quasimodo, I tell you! QUASIMODO! :) He just needs and Esmeralda... :)
Like, Scylla said, Injector's fanfic fodder. :) And I love the toy. I don't
care what anyone says. He who picks on Injector in my earshot does so at his
peril... :)
> After reading this whole thread: Where is this Faire held, in fact?
Renaissance Faires are held all over the place, actually. But Túrin already
gave you a website addy where you can find good info. I just wanted to say
that I never attended one in Europe. It doesn't mean there aren't any, but I
never heard of any. Odd, that. After all, the history that RenFaire
enthusiasts re-enact took place over there, not here in the States. :) It'd
be REALLY cool to have a RenFaire on the grounds of an actual medieval
castle or in an actual medieval town... :)

Depends on which textbook you consult, I guess. The original settlers of
north central Pennsylvania, back in the late 1600s/early 1700s, according to
my husband (Who isn't an expert or anything, but he IS a descendant of those
original settlers :) ), were called the SCOTCH-Irish. Not Scots-Irish.
SCOTCH! (Speaking of which, I could use some... ;) ) But maybe that's what
everyone else called them, not what they called themselves. Kinda like the
Pennsylvania Dutch...Who aren't Dutch. They're German. People just
misinterpreted "Deutsch," the German word for "German" as "Dutch." Maybe the
Scots-Irish were all drunk and slurring their words and it sounded like
"Scotch" when they said "Scots." :)

Well, it'd certainly be an interesting one... ;) Still, I have to agree with
you. Claymores are good for brute strength (Because you NEED brute strength
to life the darn thing!), but katanas have...finesse ("Whatever that
mean..."). Given the choice brute strength and finesse, I find finesse more
attractive. :)

Quasimodo is a nice man! Quasimodo is a nice man!

Joona is going on about a song mixed from clips out of an Old Amiga top-down

Marc.
You got one of the three. You remember the song right, it's called
"It's a Skull", it was published on an Amiga Power coverdisk in the
mid-90's. Now identify the other two?

/delurk....I'd be interested in some TF patterns. But don't under
estimate the power of some of those pattern programs. With over 400
colors to choose from, a 3D pattern would look very well. I have some
cheetah patterns that look amazingly life like. I know a Cheetor
would look great on a t-shirt.... :)
