That's an awful lot for roughly 14 episodes of content. Of course, it could
be worse (Armada, Energon.)

I am pretty sure that the box set will have all 52 episodes of
CYBERTRON on it. In that case, the price is not too bad. (However,
you might have been implying that the 52 episode series only had like
14 episodes' worth of -actual- plot/content to it.)

Either way, I purchased mine at Best Buy today only to find out later
that Target was selling it for only $37. Oh, well.
This is the first time I will have watched this series dubbed in
English, so it should be an interesting(?) experience. I would not be
surprised, though, if I gave up on it and just used that time to watch
subtitled Galaxy Force again instead.

I perceive CYB/GF as clearly being a giant robot -anime- show first
and foremost with a huge Japanese cultural influence on the
storytelling and artistic style. That being the case, I would much
rather watch it in Japanese rather than English just like I would
rather watch G1 or ANIM in English as they were originally intended to
be.
Also, for some unknown reason, English dubbers always feel this need
to insert jokes or explanatory dialogue were none was before (and none
was actually needed), dumbing down the stories in the process and
deleting dramatic moments of silence, and that usually gets on my
nerves.
I know that reading subtitles during a show/movie bugs the heck out of
some viewers and acts as a huge distraction, but I have watched so
many subtitled, foreign works to date (Japanese, Chinese, even Thai
and Korean) that I have gotten to the point where I mentally process
the words on the screen without even consciously noticing them being
there anymore.

I actually watch 'regular television' with closed captioning on. Not
only does it help with the whole subtitle thing, but it greatly
reduces misunderstandings--since it's happened, I've never had to stop
and go "Wait, what did he say?"
Also, it's funny when the captioning guys mess stuff up.

I know the feeling. I specifically watch the special features and
commentaries on DVDs I buy simply because I Spent Money On This, and

2005 was horrible for me. I generally didn't like much TF at all, plus
I was in a toxic relationship and also not very respected at another
forum where I had mod duties and which was full of immature jackasses.

I know, it's insane. Although I think 2005 was merely when it started--
Cybertron didn't get into full swing mode until 2006. I know that's
when I started really getting back into it, and TF in general, at
least.
Even so, it's even harder to believe that it's been 'twelve years'
since BW started. I was in elementary school! I got BW toys for
Christmas in the 'fifth grade!'

were right!" I just watched the first episode, and it was ... :-(
I did not like how they rearranged the order of events in that first
episode to have multiple flashbacks rather than a linear sequence of
events (as in GF).
I did not care for the voice acting or the character accents.
I did not care for the English dialogue coming out of what were
clearly Japanese anime characters. (The recent GOTHAM KNIGHT DVD
bothered me in the same way.)
I really did not care for the intro or the overall theme music that
popped up throughout the episode ("Transformers, Transformers ...
uh!").
For some reason, the idea of a flying fire engine now seems odd to me
in a way that it never did before. Also, the lip movements on the TFs
are really bad regardless of what language they are speaking. Gonzo
has produced some of the most beautiful animation ever made (ex.
Gankutsuou, Last Exile, Samurai 7), so that is particularly
disappointing. Oh, well.

I really liked that. It started with a bit of action, which is always
nice. I think they also trimmed about a full episode out in the first
couple -- it seemed to move faster. I didn't like the opening few
episodes of Galaxy Force.

The accents are bad, but the voice acting is passable. An improvement
over Armada, at least.

CGI robots that have a few too many toy details don't seem

The first half of Galaxy Force had a beautiful closing song. This was
like the theme song from "Team America" (which went "America, FUCK
YEAH!"), but with lyrics about Transformers.

I don't think of Optimus as a flying fire engine. I think of him as
having a robot mode, a flying mode, and a fire engine disguise mode.
The benefits of flight outweigh the benefits of disguise sometimes.
It's an odd flying mode, and it certainly isn't going to go unnoticed
if he does it around people, but it seems handy. It makes me wonder
why the rest of the grounders don't have flight modes though.

Yeah, that's poorly done. I do like that Optimus has a Primal style
face though.

It is funny that you would mention this because there have been a few
anime series imported to America in which all of the initial set-up
episodes, the ones with a slower pace that established the characters
and overall plot, were dropped altogether in order to have exciting
action from the first episode on. In the original GO-LION show that
inspired VOLTRON, the lions were not even shown combining until like
the end of the third episode.

Yeah, the voice acting was passable in retrospect. It was the
unnecessary accents that bothered me (and the kids' voices).

I was thinking of the human characters in particular, not necessarily
the robot characters. The human characters are obviously anime
characters.

What I mean to say is that the flight mode never seemed odd to me in
the past, either for the toy itself or on the show, but it does to me
now. Still, it is convenient for Optimus to have flight capabilities
of some kind.
