The latest issue of Wizard (111) has a feature on 80s toy properties and who
they think should make new comics of them... #1 on the list is the
Transformers, and their pick for artist is Pat Lee, currently artist on
Darkminds. The article features a classic character TF art piece by Mr. Lee
that should make a believer of you in about .5 seconds.... check it out.

I second that - I would appreciate a scan as well. Seeing as I've got
about 2 bucks in the bank right now and buying Wizard is out of the
question...

Dinogrrl :) At least tell us who he drew!

Ill third it.
Quit reading Wizard when my comic shop went out of business.
Aint gonna start back up, as I read very few comics now.
(Not totally by choice. But I could mail order them or make a long drive
for them, and I don't. )

Pardon the expression, but:

That looks FUCKING AWESOME!

Granted its just one piece, and a comic full of such would not be that perfect
all the time, but its heads and shoulders above most of what I've seen online,
because it has the feeling of officiality. I know this is the quality we
would've seen from the Bench Press books, and damnit, thats when I feel the
loss...

Nice to see publicized Transformers art that doesn't suck for a

happens to be the best Transformers artist on the planet:

Wow! Thats some damn fine work. If there is too be a TF Comic relaunch now
is the time with the renewed interest. I like the premise they have for it
as well, nice update for the 21st century. But for gods sake keep Soundwave
a tape player! It would be really nice if that pic was available without the
big title covering up part of Soundwave. I wonder if we all start a nice
letter writing campaign to Wizard Press they would release the image as a
poster inside a future issue. That would be awesome! Anyone else think this
is a good idea? Its just such a great pic.
Outta curiosity who did they select for GI Joe?

Dprime's art is cool, and original. (He doesn't seem to be ripping any
artist off that I can tell.)

But I honestly like that UK guy that does those awesome 3d Transformers the
best.

His Fire Convoy (Which is one of my favorite robot mode TFs ever.) was so
freakin awesome, it became my wallpaper.

He's a mystery writer whose comic credits include various Batman comics and
WHITEOUT from Oni. He also wrote the BATMAN: NO MAN'S LAND novel (which is
actually very good if you can overlook how utterly goofy the premise is).
Like Wizard's choice of Mark Millar over Furman, Greg Rucka on Joe is out of
leff field, but I think that Rucka might actually be one of the few people
who could write GI Joe better than Larry Hama. I can't believe I'm agreeing
with Wizard so much today.

compared to say, Manny Galan, I think he's one of the better choices.

He actually hopes to break into comics. One thing I wish they'd do if the
comic gets out is bring in a guest artist to do an issue or two, or a
storyline. He could get Chi, DPrime2, Dan Khanna, the possibilities are
endless.

TransFan18, who just wants a Transformer comic that doesn't suck.

A response to the scan:
The article scan says "...and he can destroy as many characters as he
wants...they're just robots!"

I hope to never hear that from anyone actually affiliated with a new TF
comic...The Wizard thing talks about mecha stuff, but Transformers
aren't like the mecha they seem to be talking about, that is, the
traditional human-piloted ones - and the "real robots" style of story
doesn't mix well with Transformers.

I really hope any new TF comic doesn't make the mistake of treating it
like a serious, realistic, robot war story. I'd hate to see a TF book
with lots of cursing and killing...I also can't stand the current trend
in comics towards soft-core porn. It's ridiculous. I occasionally get
sent comic catalogs, and I flip through them seeing nothing but
unrealistically proportioned, mostly unclothed women. I don't know much
about the comic scene these days, but from what I can see, I don't know
if I'd want to see a new TF book introduced against competition that
bases its success on fanboys' libidos...

Never mind; I found a post from DPrime. Seems his name doesn't show up

Yeah, his stuff is cool. I still gotta say, though, that Wizard piece
is some polished sweetness. I've seen Transfan art that comes close,
but Lee & co. seem to put just the right finish on it. Megs is sheer

I'd love to see a new TF comic, but I hope its not a rewrite but a
continuation of the Marvels.

God, I really hope not. I would like to see something fresh and new. A
complete relaunch, with a new writer. The Marvel comic was pretty much all
tied up in a neat little package and finished. You could say they could
continue with the whole Liege Maximo story, but that would require new
readers to go back and pick up a 12 issue series that is difficult to come
by in the back issue bins. To gain new readers I would think a fresh start
would be necessary.
BTW legally could they continue Marvel's story? I mean the characters are
copyrighted Hasbro, but what about the context of the stories themselves?

That's all we need: another continuity to try and retcon together. :P To
each his/her own, I guess.

>BTW legally could they continue Marvel's story? I mean the characters are

That's a good question. Mostly I meant not having anything that
contradicts the Marvels. I doubt they could return to Grand Central Space
Station or the Nucleon, but they wouldn't have anything that would
contradict its existance in the past.

To
> each his/her own, I guess.

It wouldnt require any retconning if its all new and stands alone. FAR more
retconning would be required if you were to continue the Marvel continuity,
which already has its own problems to begin with. You would have to retcon
several items.
1) Every story and crossover that has or references GI Joe and its family
line has to be eliminated out of existence.
2) The Spiderman appearance in the original mini-series never occured.Though
many people say that already:)
3) What abut characters like Circuit Breaker, The Mechanic, etc? Couldnt
happen as they were characters exclusive to the comic and Marvel may own
those characters(Though I may be wrong!)
Im sure there are other examples as well.
If ANY continuity is used I hope its the G1 animated universe. It could use
the most repair, plus it has BIG gaps of untold tales. 1986-2005,
Post-2008(Which is when I consider Rebirth to take place).

Actually, since squishies will never be extremely prominent in a TF
comic, what I'm more afraid of is female TFs with "Danger Girl"
proportions - that would be so wrong.

True, but Ms. Beller could kick the Doc's @$$ easily. Though I think she
was cuter with long hair and shooting lighting from her fingertips.

Then again, you all know Buster's gal Jessie was the hottest babe in the
TF comics. And she's a redhead! :) (Looking at comic characters. I *must* be
lonely.)

Yeah...but Megatron only wanted her for her mind....;)

Fine though she may be, you gotta give some mad props (yo yo yo) to
Skids's gal pal. Sudsing him up, wearing those cutoff shorts... Owwww.

I think the Autobot's measure such things in terms of the speed limit.
Skids and Charlene were definitely pushing 70 at least...

I think one comment I got from DPrime on it pretty much sums it up:

"Why's his fusion cannon on this left arm?"

:)

Nevertheless, he was impressed, as was I. I must say, I've never seen that
level of detail in any piece of Transformer art before. Ever. He's my top
choice.

TransFan18, who wonders what the heck he was thinking when comparing this to
Manny Galan. This stuff's more detailed than Wildman, and then some!

I like the pic, but I really don't like what the article says.
Dorment for 30 million years, nuclear testing wakes them up, and many can all
be killed off because they are just robots? WTH

*reads* Holy smoking Jesus on a rubber raft. They're as bad as ToyFare! And
Wizard doesn't even HAVE any excuse, since they're s division of Hasbro!

..hrm. Are you confusing them with Wizards of the Coast?

Wizard is a sister publication to Toyfare, and both are owned by the same
company.

"Wizard" isn't a funny word, unlike "monkey."

This is news to me - I thought that Wizard and Toyfare belonged to the same
company - Hasbro bought another company Wizards of the Coast who do some
sort of trading card game...

I haven't picked up either magazine for quite a while (I believe they are in
serious need of responsible editors) but I believe Toyfare is owned by
Wizard Entertainment who also produce Wizard the comics magazine and have
nothing to do with Hasbro....

Marc. (If Hasbro had a comic division would we see a TF Comic - I mean we've
seen several TF Games lately, not terribly successful, but given TF's wide
ranging fan base a comic might find a niché..)

Wait--are they saying what happened in the original story, or what a
revamp might be like? And hey, TOY FARE makes effort now and then.
There's even a Price Guide Spotlight and numerous gags and info on TFs
this most recent issue, plus mention of the BWNeo Unicron.

Whaat?! Not even close, I'm afraid. Wizard Entertainment is its own
company. WIZARD is their flagship title, TOY FARE is an offshoot.

You may have a point, but she's a bit to wild for me. I wonder if she
and Wendell ever got back together. Maybe Skids could be best man. :)

Alas, there are some things I don't want to know about; and that one's
pretty high in the rankings. :D

Oh, yeah. Never. There were no humans in the original TF comic. None on
the TV show, either. And the toys! None there.

Uh, no?
