May be yet another example of Hasbro's increasing
incompetence, though it was probably more the studio's decision.
Still, you'd think Hasbro would have had some input, and now they're
left with a bunch of new toys to sell without the corresponding
promotional vehicle.

Hasbro doesn't read this newsgroup, so saying the following directly
to them will do no good. That fact is not stopping me.
Listen, Hasbro, taking a movie that wasn't filmed in 3D and half-assing
3D into it is stupid. Honestly, fake 3D sucks. Don't take my word for
it, ask the movie-going public who feel cheated out of the extra money
they spent to watch previous half-assed attempts at 3D conversion. If
you don't want to take their word for it, ask the experts. There are
many film directors, including Christopher Nolan and James Cameron
who will be happy to sit down with you and explain to you all the
technical details that make your insanely mystifying conclusion
sound dumb.
While I have you, let me just explain something about the intelligent
movie-goer. We don't like gimmicks. I am not saying 3D is just a stupid
gimmick, it's not. When done right (see Avatar) then it can actually
enhance the movie theatre experience. 3D can become a way to immerse
yourself into the fictional world set before you. What you are trying
to sell us is an after thought, a sham, a trick to remove even more of
our disposable income than we care to, on what will most likely be
a waste of our hard-earned cash as it is.
Cease and desist. Immediately.

I've NEVER heard of this being done before this late in the game. I'm
following the story on AICN. Several posters claim they have seen the
film in test screenings and that it was a disaster. Other people are
saying that reshoots are being done to give Channing Tatum, or whatever
his name is (reminds me of Carol Channing and Tatum O'Neal), a bigger role.
They already advertized this like crazy, even during the Super Bowl.
Those ads aren't cheap and now that money was essentially wasted.
I really feel bad for the kids that were looking forward to this.

which is why some places haven't put them out yet. I casually found
them last weekend at a Wal-Mart in another town but when I went to my
local one, I found nothing but a sheet of paper with the arrangement
on it.

I don't know why Hasbro was able to synchronize the media with the toys
in the '80s, but not now. I would think that sort of thing would be

are kicking you out of the band." No dialogue, so Christopher E does not
return. Neither does the actress who played Baroness, and as I said it's
implied Scarlet was killed off in the attack mentioned in the trailer.
The script is credited to the guys who wrote Zombieland, and the
director did the first 2 Step Up movies and The Justin Bieber concert film.
Bruce Willis is only in a few scenes, which to repeat what the caller
stated, look like they were already part of a reshoot.

The first five minutes of the movie is a jailbreak coordinated by Storm
Shadow to free Cobra Commander. Storm Shadow kicks the collective ass of
an entire super-high tech underground lair manned by 50 guys with
machine guns and breaks Cobra Commander out of his holding tube/cell
thingy. I think it's SS who asks 'But what about Destro?' when the two
of them are about to leave. Cobra Commander looks over at Destro in his
respective holding cell/tube thingy and says some cheesy-ass action
movie line like 'DESTRO IS OUT OF THE BAND!' There is then a zoom cut to
Destro's face after hearing the line, and his expression is hilarious.
He looks like a puppy that's being left behind in a burning building.
You can practically hear him whimpering, for fuck's sake. So pathetic.
So yes, they kill off Destro almost immediately, and there is no
Baroness to be found anywhere. Fuckin' wack. You can't have an evil
empire without a psychotic weapons manufacturer. Period. Recast that
shit if Eccleston doesn't care anymore. No big deal.
I have to admit that the jailbreak sequence in the first 5 minutes is
kinda cool, but it's that expression on Destro's face that begins the
shitasticness of the rest of the movie. Say what you will about the
first movie, but I enjoyed it just fine because it didn't take itself
seriously at all. It IS the cartoon show, and that's all it really needs
to be. I don't know why Hasbro felt the need to make it 'grittier',
especially when the end result isn't gritty at all. It's just stupid,
half-assed and completely all over the place.
It's not completely unsalvageable, but it needs an extensive reworking
based on what I saw. I'm sure Jon Chu is a nice guy, but good lord. He
is SO over his head with this kind of material. I gave them my full
opinion of the movie on the survey they gave us to fill out afterward,
and I KNOW I wasn't the only one who tore them a new asshole on it.
Not lying here, folks. The movie as it stood a month ago is a complete
mess, and Hasbro knows it. This is a studio scrambling at the eleventh
hour.
It plays like a mixture of shitty made-for-TV movies in the '80s and an
even shittier recruitment video for the United States Marines. Say what
you want about the first movie, but at least it had a straightforward,
point-A-to-point-B narrative that Sommers stuck with all the way
through. Retaliation doesn't even have that.

Movie or not, has anyone seen the toys in stores yet? Kmart
had a couple ninjas on motorcycles, Target had nothing (and no space
set aside), and Walmart had a tiny little space set aside--exactly 4
pegs, but with nothing on them. I just want a Flint figure.

I actually found the toys before the movie was even pushed back.

Bought the Joe Trooper (who makes a fine Hit & Run update with a new
head or different helmet!) and Red Ninja, who is awesome thanks to
being Renegades Storm Shadow with new legs. Sadly, he doesn't even
have half of Storm Shadow's huge weaponry assortment, but that's okay.

scenes later in the film wearing just pants and a tanktop like the
initial toy, but the majority of the action scenes feature him wearing
some full-body camo outfit with a (pretty cool looking) armoured vest
with holsters for several knives. The Wave 2 toy matches this
appearance, and it's also a better toy--the Wave 1 Roadblock has a
"key" for his goofy weapons PERMANENTLY MOULDED to his hand, and is
also missing double-jointed knee and ankle articulation, like several
other Wave 1 and 2 toys (Duke, Cobra Commander, etc.) so he's not an
ideal Joe toy.
So, really, it's more like...they released Dagobah Luke Skywalker
first when everybody's going to want Bespin Fatigues Luke.
