Thunder Strikes Twice!
This may be old news, I dunno (I don't keep up on all the big TF sites
that much).
Wow, the artwork is... to be honest, I really hate it. I know this is
Figueroa's new "style" but I really have to take a pass on it. Every
time I buy an issue, I'm going to have to get around that to try and
enjoy the story.
What's anyone else think about it? Like it? Hate it?

Yuck.
And I don't like the designs either -- is there any reason not to give
them either their Classic G1 or Classics bodies? It's been something
that has bothered me with a lot of the IDW stuff, but matching it with
ugly style and bletch.

Scrunchformers comes to G1. It had to happen some-time.
Bumblebee looks so like his Movieverse counterpart, they could be
twins. Well, fraternal twins, anyway.
Don's mech designs still look good, it's just the faces. Dear god, the
faces.
And have they killed off Ironhide? To make for his being such a rear
manifold in "AHM"?

I won't be buying any micheal bay movie verse TF comics. I won't be
buying the bumblebee comics as I always hated that character & found
him to be utterly useless,weak & dull.
I won't be buying the TF robot hero's comic.

various miniseries to different levels of success throughout the IDW
run and for the most part I've enjoyed what I've bought. So I'm going
to try and be a dedicated comics buyer again and follow the new
ongoing series each month.
The art doesn't bug me so much and really don't surprise me either.
The movies were mega successful and more media that followed it's suit
outside of the movie tie in stuff was inevitable. If you want to think
about it, it's really a good idea. Hasbro and IDW have to be involved
with Paramount for movie related stuff right? Well, by making the
standard cast look more like movie designs, they can draw the movie
fan crowd (and kids who recognize that Bumblebee over G1 Bee any day)
without dealing with the movie studio. I wouldn't be too surprised if
toys and new cartoon followed suit for awhile either (at least while
the movies bank serious cash).
I may be wrong, but hasn't other comics followed suit when a movie
adaption was mega successful?

for.AHM #16 which I can't find around here anywhere), mostly in TPB form but
some individual issues as well.
I bought the Reign of Starscream, Alliance & Defiance series, so I'm used to
seeing movie-style bots in the comics verse, so the art doesn't bother me
that much, even if it is a departure for Don. However, I was bothered by the
Movie-style G1 Optimus Prime in that one AHM 'Coda' story, the gribblies
didn't look quite right....
In the preview, the art is clean, most of the Transformers are readily
identifiable as who they are (Ironhide is obviously Ironhide, for example),
though I don't get why Hot Rod appears to be on his 3rd IDW body (is there a
Universe/Classics style toy coming?).
The little snippet we have leaves me intrigued and wanting to see what
happens next, so the writing is already above All Hail Megatron in that
regard. I'm looking forward to this one, just because it'll be nice to have
an on-going, but it's #2 on my anticipation list behind Roche's Wreckers
mini.

The big time UGLY of this TF art really takes the cake for me .
I was really looking foward to an ongoing series , since I felt that
IDW (just like DW) took way too long to start an ongoing series and by
the time DW did , the hype just wasn't there as much .
This series ... , well it'll be a first for me but I may just have to
"sample" a few issues on-line because as much as I want to buy an
ongoing , I really don't see myself paying for an art form that comes
close to turning my stomach .
Not to mention the conflict that I feel in regards to Don , whom I
highly respect on one hand , but I am left confounded by on the
other .
Between Don's claims as to why he chose a different look for the book
and the "hot movie look" that Hasbro is pushing , I just don't know
who's to blame really .
I almost didn't have the stomach for EJ Su's "Mecha Formers" look ,
but I still wanted to read the comic so I went after the trades
because of the story .
The question for me is : Will I end up doing the same with this book
(?) , or will this be my "blue tennis ball that says Transformers on
it" that I'll finally drop due to overwhelming lack of interest .

From a distance, its OK, the close ups are a bit too detailed, I guess.

Much as I'm not sure about the art, I'd probably wind up getting it as
well (by the time it comes out here, next year maybe, or the year
after), just to see what new shenanigans Prime and the gang are up to.

The whole thing loooks very mix-mash of various genres...bumblebee,
sideswipe, and others appear to be in their Classics modes, for example.
Its a hodepodge.

True enough, but the comic might still be decent storytelling. I don't
think that the movie-style art will last, either: this is a comic meant to
appeal to the older fans, who by and large are not very impressed with the
movie(s).
