So, Transformers have officially 'crossed over' with Star Wars,
Marvel, G.I. Joe, Microman and a bunch of video game characters from
World Fighters including Metal Gear and Castlevania. (http://
tfwiki.net/wiki/World_Fighters). Those are the 1st order
crossovers.

The thought occurs that, if you look at who THOSE properties have
crossed over with, you'll get 2nd order crossovers. You could then
keep playing this game. I'm curious how far afield you could get.

Some ground rules:
1: It has to be licensed, so no fanfic, no parodies. Robot Chicken is
out, as is Shortpacked.
2: Let's stay away from public domain characters. Sure, the X-Men
have met Dracula, as has Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but that's no
challenge.
3: No real people, just fictional ones. Kirk from Star Trek met Jack
the Ripper, as did Sheridan from Babylon 5, but that wouldn't count.
4: It has to be, in some sense, 'real' to the people involved. Peter
Griffin telling a story about Star Wars (though licensed) doesn't
count, nor does Imagination Land from South Park.
5: Assume that once you're in a universe, you're in a universe. The
various cartoon Batman count for the mainstream DC Universe.

That said, I bet we can get pretty far.

The obvious 2nd order crossovers:
GI Joe crossed over into Jem & The Holograms and Inhumanoids.
Marvel crossed over into the DC Universe, Star Trek, Evil Dead/Army of
Darkness, Doctor Who, the Capcom universe, probably others.
Castlevania crossed over into Mega Man, Metroid, Kid Icarus, Donkey
Kong, The Legends of Zelda, Wizards & Warriors, Metroid, Final Fantasy
and probably other video games through Captain N: The Game Master.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl gets you from Metal Gear to the Mario verse,
Sonic the Hedgehog, probably others.

From here one can just go nuts. 3rd order crossovers that occur to me
off the cuff include:
DC crossed over into Mortal Kombat, Aliens, Predator and I think
Terminator. (Otherwise, Terminator fought Aliens & Predator in their
video game). Also, Batman met Scooby Doo.
Final Fantasy gets you to the wider Disney verse through kingdom
hearts.

A notable fourth order connection through Disney would be Who Framed
Rodge Rabbit . . . tons of stuff in there.

Any takers? Can we connect Transformers to Voltron? Macross/
Robotech? Thundercats? He-Man? Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

YES! I can connect TF to He-Man, via DC Comics.

TF met SpiderMan, both of whom are Marvel characters.
Marvel & DC have done numerous cross-overs before.
Superman, a DC character, was featured in a HeMan comic when he was put
under a spell by Skeletor once, and Superman & HeMan almost got into it!

Therefore, a 3rd order cross-over relates TF to HeMan.

Did Voltron ever officially cross over with _anything_?

We know about Transformers -> Death's Head -> Dr Who, and that DW links to
Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood, but did you know it also links to the
Hitchhiker's Guide the the Galaxy?

And given that Transformers -> Marvel -> DC, that opens up stupendously
large cans of worms. For instance, Batman's linked to Hogan's Heroes and
the Addams Family, Superman's linked to the Masters of the Universe (as
mentioned upthread), the Punisher's linked to Archie comics, DC's linked
to the Sandman universe, and Spider-Man's linked to Jay Leno and Stephen
Colbert. (The Avengers are linked to Letterman.) Heck, Hillary Clinton
showed up at Superman's funeral and an X-Men spinoff had a superpowered
zombie Princess Diana.

If you count the novels as canon, add Sherlock Holmes, the Cthulhu
mythos, and possible Star Trek (though Marvel already did an X-men
cross-over with them).

This could make an interesting six degrees game.

X-Statix was going to, but Marvel caved under preassure to not use her,
and they turned the character into a dead pop star called Henrietta
Hunter. Personally, I've always found the story was the worse for it...

Ahhh, this is neat. I am a big fan of "crossoverology" and have spent
some time in the past charting out various crossovers. It turns out
that one or two of the big writers at Marvel & DC (Mark Waid & Kurt
Busiek) also really enjoy this game. One of them has posited that
"It's all one universe," which I sorta agree with. I'd go more with
"It's all one multiverse," but close enough.

Anyway, carrying on. Quite simply, once you've connected to either
Marvel or DC, you connect to almost everything. The big two have
crossed over with every Image comics sub-universe (Image, Rob Liefeld,
Top Cow, Wildstorm, etc), as well as Vampirella, Dark Horse's heroes
(like Ghost and Barb Wire)... Barb Wire crossed over with Warrior Nun
Areala, I do believe... Hellboy crossed over with Image's Savage
Dragon, so there's that too... Robocop crossed over with Terminator,
which (as was mentioned upthread) crossed over with Aliens and
Predator... But heck, there was a Superman vs Terminator comic anyway.
Oh! Here's a good one:

Transformers crossed over with Marvel. Marvel crossed over with Army
of Darkness (via Ash meeting the Marvel Zombies). Ash fought Freddy
and Jason. Jason appeared in issue 4 of Satan's Six, which was part of
the "Kirbyverse" -- Secret City Saga, Silver Star, etc. So the
Transformers have a connection (albeit via 4 or 5 degrees) to Jack
Kirby's Captain Victory!!

More I can think of: Marvel vs Capcom gives us connections to Street
Fighter, Darkstalkers, and alll sortsa others, and of course SNK vs
Capcom provides more links. DC versus Mortal Kombat is coming out
soon. Darth Vader and Yoda are in, what, the latest Soul Calibur game?
So Star Wars TFs connect really quickly to Soul Calibur. Spawn was in
a previous Soul Calibur game, as was Link (from Zelda), so there's
that too.

Oh! I have Superman vs Muhammed Ali (it's actually amazingly good), so
there's an odd one for ya. And it has cameos (especially on the cover)
of almost every celebrity and big comic creator of the 1970s... oh,
but real people don't count in this game. Nevermind.

Aha!! Here's one: 1972's "Superman Versus Godzilla and King Kong"!!!
Which of course connects us to other Toho monster franchises.

Ah yes, here's another: I remember now that "Mars Attacks" invaded the
Image comics universe.

And for my last trick -- believe it or not, Marvel's line-wide
Evolutionary War briefly involved none other than Alf!!!

That's an awesome list, Grebo, but let's not forget that The Punisher
crossed over with Archie and his gang from Archie Comics! Oh how
strange that could be . . . maybe Bumblebee would disguise himself as
Archie's jalopy. I mean, IF Archie had a jalpoy. Cause how would I
know if he had a jalpoy or not, since I never read those comics. <looks
both ways> Yeah, that's the ticket . . .

Great list, Grebo. Alf, you say? As a 2nd order effect.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_All-Stars_to_the_Rescue

That'll get us the Chipmunks, Winnie-the-Pooh, the Muppets, the
Smurfs, the TMNT, The Real Ghostbusters, Ducktails & Garfield.
Nice.

(We already had Disney and therefor Final Fantasy, right?)

Dayum, I'd never heard of CASTTR... that's just nuts!

I've been trying to figure out how the Power Rangers might cross over
to TF, but I don't think they ever... no wait! Didn't some iteration
of the Power Rangers meet the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Yes! They met in an episode of Power Rangers In Space called "Shell
Shocked". Ye gods.

Awesome. Hey, I'll throw this in the mix . . . does it help?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Robot_Wars
A video game where robots from various anime & manga fight, including
Mazinger, Gundam, Getter Robo, Evangelion, Macross, GaoGaiGar and
some others. Can we link to those?
