Depends. For the first several years, the Marvel one was pretty campy. But
near the end it got really really good. And the G2 run, from the 6 issues
that I read, was quite good too.
DW has a mixed record too. The first mini-series was horrible. War Within
Vol 1 was good. War Within Vol 2 was pretty boring to me, and the
Transformers/GI Joe comics were a waste of time and money. I really like the
work Brad Mick has done on G1 Volume 2 and the ongoing G1 series, and I am
looking forward to War Within vol 3.

Storywise, I LOVED the first DreamWave mini-series because it brought in
recognizable elements such as Spike, and even a young(er) Daniel, and much of
the story took place on Earth among humans. Since then, the story has been
about the robots, almost without human involvement. I want to see what's
happening on Earth.
That having been said, the Marvel title was a little disjointed, to put it
mildly, for a while. I think it got better later on, but I'd still put
DreamWave ahead, just because I think they've got a better handle on the
concept, and have more of a legacy to work with.

Marvel.
Why, you ask?
Because an entire Dreamwave miniseries would have been ONE FREAKIN ISSUE of
the marvel comic. What is it, 8 pages of story + cover + 24 pages of ADDS
FOR OTHER DW COMICS in each DW issue? All that and $4 bucks a pop, too!
Marvel, without a doubt. And Marvel UK is even better.

Not anymore. Every Iron Man arc had to be six issues long. It's the
minor reason I stopped reading the title. (The main reasons being no
supervillains, too much Tony, and not enough Iron Man.)
Yeah, but if the story is no good all the pretty pictures in the world won't
save it.

O.o Wow thats something you don't hear everyday. The first mini series
almost made me not buy any more DW TF comics.

DW's concept changes every month.

Well, that was a reference to the G1 days. Comics in general these days just
arent worth the paper they are printed on.
DW just really pisses me of because they have more adds than content. Even
that wouldnt bother me so much if ALL the adds weren't for other DW comics.
Thats filler on unused add space on TV, I'm paying too much to get stuck
with it in a comic.
This might sound a bit unfair cuz marvel has more TF issues & many more years
on dreamwave in TF comics.
However from what I've seen of Dreamwave. the last 6 months of TF comics has
just dropped the ball.
I didn't care for TF G-1 Volume 3. I liked volume 1 & 2 of TF G-1 better.
IMO,Armada & Energon comics are the worst TF comics I've ever read. these
Armada & Energon comics are for grammar school kids.
War within 1 was good. in story & art. War within 2 just sucked. the story
was majorly lacking. the art work was a few notches down thanks to no more don
art on war within series. War within 2 promises to be a good story. can't
wait to see james raiz's art.
G.I Joe +TF crossover just sucked. ain't gonna buy volume 2. same goes for
Devils due's version. ain't gonna buy there volume 2 either.
Micromasters has promise is done right.
I'd agree the Marvel TF art ain't in the same awesome league as dreamwave TF
art.
The Marvel TF stories were really great. Shockwave verse megatron plots
rocked. Grimlock becomming new leader was cool. megatron defeating predaking
one on one was awesome. headmasters verse regular transformers were great
conflict story plots. prime & megatron gone then came back. Starscream had
some great issues. Galvatron even managed to be in the US Marvel comics. I
heard Galvatron carried the UK Comics story lines. The Unicron plots were
good.Thunderwing plots were great. The first 12 issues of US Marvel TF comics
were just a awesome story arc.
G-2 TF comics were great. more older age level. big grim head band around
grimlock head was freaking beyond funny.
I bought 1 UK Marvel TF titan volumes of collected stories. The book was
called time jump. a great read. a great story. art work was poor. but beyond
great story made up for bad art.
And they gave War Machine lasers instead of badass chainguns!!!!
That sucked.
I am starting to think I shouldn't buy the monthly DW books and just get the
TPB's.
I think the last six months they have really gotten things back on track
with
TF G1 Volume 3 being the best none War Within G1 story they have done.

I stopped reading Energon with issue #22 I only started reading it when they
did
the G1 crossover. Good toys though, but I am not that interested in the
characters
and I don't think there is anything Furman can do about that.

I just reread War Within 2 and it is really good if you read it in one
sitting. Also
Andrew Wildman did a really good job, and it would have been even better if
they had Rob Armstrong do the first 3 issues. As good as Don is, Wildman
will
always have a special place in my heart because the first time I saw his
work on
the Marvel comic I was blown away. I have never been as impressed with
anyone
doing TF art as his work on Marvel G1. I know it is not for everyone, but
it really
worked for me.

I didn't even bother to read it.

Not interested, only Micromaster I care about is Fixit.
I like big bots and I cannot lie!!!!

Marvel UK and then Marvel US under Furman. To be honest, I'm
surprised Dreamwave even survived that first godawful mini-series! :)

It shows how starved we were for TF comics!!!!
How do you figure? The comics are, what, 32 pages total? The story
itself, in every issue, is 22 pages. There's also the
letters/contest/preview page along with the DW uniform "From the desk
of..." page at the end.
So that leaves 8 pages for the various ads.
The Masters of the Universe comic from MVCreations/Image has just as
many ads for their own work included, just that they do so at the end
instead of breaking up the story.
So, doing the math, I don't think 8 pages of ads equals "more ads than
content."
Concerning the topic of the thread, I prefer the Dreamwave material from
what I have read of the Marvel stuff. Whether it's "better" or not,
I'm not going to say, that's a matter of personal taste.
Marvel.
I can't speak for what the other poster meant, but I feel like the
fact that the "22 pages" we get doesn't have anything like as much
actual "content" as the same number pages used to have in the Marvel
is justification enough for his statement.

Dreamwave.
The ongoing series has been pretty good.
Was never fond of the Marvel later portrayal of Prime being... well... an
emotional sap, nor did I care for the disjointed storylines and the feeling
of "gee, I wonder what throwaway character dies in this issue". There were
some great issues around the time of the Headmasters and for a good year
thereafter, but the Furman era... highly overrated. (*ducks*)
-Ground Zero
Welcome to the underground. I also preferred Budiansky to Furman's
style. Especially the weird stuff that popped up in G2. Furman's TFs all
needed therapy. And actual transforming. And while I may be in the minority,
should events on Earth affect humans? Shouldn't we see some of that?
Wouldn't aliens want allies who know the strange world they're on enough to
be a help in a war against their evil enemies? The whole
paranormal/supernatural/whathaveyou addition didn't help, either. Bob's
Transformers were actual living robots. Furman's Transformers were humans in
robot suits. (That's not an art comment.) (Although...)

It would probably take DW two or three years to do a similar story to
Target 2006 the way they do comics. Yes the art is great, but so what?
Image comics tried to do stories that emphasized art over story and that
didn't work in the long term.

I have to say, to Dreamwave's credit, they did resist the obvious
move. They could have easily said, "Okay, we had a huge hit with this
past series, so, let's keep the same creative team on it and have
another!" Instead, they dumped the biggest problem with the first
series, IMO :) the writer, and brought on a new one.
Yup. And it then for the on going they dumped the biggest problem with
the second mini and brought on a new one and it was good.

They almost kept the same writer. And then after the second mini series
they dropped the artist so that says a lot about the first mini series's
creative
team.
