Rules & Info for the BotCon '98 art contest and auction. You
can find this same text at:
http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/1139/contest.html -- the advantage
of looking at it there is that there are a couple of diorama pics to
see as examples ... otherwise this post contains the full text of
what's on my web page.
And while it says "prizes have yet to be determined," I'm
working on getting a few neat items.... :)

BotCon '98 Art Contest
Rules & Info
1. Expanding to five categories this year: 2-D Black & White
(drawings), 2-D Color (paintings, etc.), Computer Generated Art,
3-D (including customized figures, sculpture, etc.), and Diorama.
You do not have to attend the convention to enter the Art Contest.
However: due to the nature of the Diorama category, you will need
to be present Friday evening or Saturday morning to set up your
diorama yourself, so this is the one exception to non-attendees being
able to enter the contest. The idea is to use your toys to create a
scene of some kind, with as elaborate a background and setting as you
like. You can illustrate a scene from one of the cartoons, comics, or
fanfics; a character-interaction (battle or otherwise) that you'd
like to demonstrate; a composition of figures against some interesting
background; etc. Consider the use of unusual materials in the
setting, colors, lighting effects, and whatever else you care to
experiment with. Set up the scene at home first and see how it comes
together. Above all, be creative!
2. If you're unable to attend, artwork can be mailed in advance
to Raksha. E-mail me for details. Be sure to include sufficient return
postage if you need to have your work returned by mail. Art will also
be accepted in person up until 9:30 Saturday morning, and can be given
to Raksha, or any of the convention organizers. For those bringing
their entries to the convention, please contact me with the amount
of space your work will need. Be sure to include your name and
address along with a title for each entry.
3. Artwork will be judged at the convention by popular vote.
One official ballot will be given to each BotCon attendee. In the
event of a tie between two entries, the convention organizers will
determine the winner. All decisions are final.
4. The contest will close prior to the end of the convention
with enough time to award prizes to the winners in each category.
Cash and/or Transformer-related items will be awarded as first,
second, and third prizes in each category. Specific prizes have yet
to be determined.
BotCon '98 Art Auction
Rules & Info
1. Artwork can be mailed in advance to Raksha.
E-mail me for details. Attendance is not required to enter the art
auction. If you want any unsold artwork returned, please include
sufficient postage to cover return by mail. Art will also be accepted
in person up until 9:30 Saturday morning, and can be given to Raksha,
or any of the convention organizers. For those bringing their entries
to the convention, please contact me with the amount of space your
work will need. Be sure to include your name and address along with a
title for each entry.
2. Include the starting bid for each piece submitted. The starting
bid is the lowest price for which you would be willing to sell the
piece.
3. Each piece entered in the Auction will receive a card with
spaces for bids. At the top of the card is the starting bid, and
underneath, convention attendees will have room to write in bids.
Each bid must exceed the previous bid by at least $1. When making a
bid, one's name and the bid amount must be included on the card.
Bids are considered offers to buy.
4. The Auction will close prior to the end of the convention with
enough time to award pieces to the highest bidders. A space will be
designated for payments to be made, artwork to be picked up, and
artists to receive their money. All unsold pieces will be returned to
their owners at this time, or mailed back to non-attendees.
(Note: While the Art Contest and Art Auction will be held in
the same space, they will be conducted separately. It is possible to
enter both events with the same piece. It is important to specify
when submitting artwork whether it is for the Contest, Auction, or
both.)
