What new alt modes would you pick for all returning tf1/rotf
characters in the 3rd movie?

Here's my picks:

(1)Optimus Prime,a fire engine truck.
(2)starscream,a F-15 jet
(3)sideswipe,lamborgini
(4)megatron,a riffle gun

Optimus Prime -- Ice cream truck
Starscream -- Ice cream truck
Sideswipe -- Ice cream truck
Megatron -- Cybertronian ice cream truck

Why would any returning characters get a new altmode? With the
exception of Megatron, who had a reasonable story explanation, and
Bumblebee, who merely got a new front end for product placement
purposes, nobody else who returned from the last film got a new
altmode. I especially don't see why Starscream would downgrade from
the F-22 to a GEEWUN F-15. (And this is coming from someone who thinks
the F-22 design sucks and the F-15 looks cooler.)

In the real world, Hasbro may want to sell new version of the
characters to keep them looking fresh, as opposed to trotting out the
same old movie toys every year. Retailers might not want to offer the
same product a third time and kids might be tired of buying the same
toys over and over.

Within the fictional universe, the Autobots might adopt new disguises
to better evade Decepticons and/or hostile humans. Or, they might
reject their disguise modes in favor of more combat-ready vehicles.
Also, if this is the last movie and they're planning to return to
Cybertron after defeating the Decepticons, they might revert to their
original Cybertronic modes.

I think it's highly probable that they will just keep the same look
for most of the characters, but changing it up a bit wouldn't be
completely outside the boundaries of plausibility.

It seemed to me like Megatron was a triple changer in the second movie.
Tank and jet. And what did we get for a toy? One lousy alt mode! Curse
you, HAASSBRROOOO!!!! :)

t.k.

But even characters who didn't get a new altmode got some new toys--
for example, Prime got a whole new toy (but that was expected), and
Ironhide is getting a major remould with tons of new parts coming up.
We're also getting Deluxe Ratchet--although he *does* have a slightly
different altmode because of his small size. (And I still can't decide
if I like him or not.)

Well, reverting to their original altmodes (If they even have them--
some of the Movie comics make it seem like they really don't) is a
different case than getting a new altmode, which is what Deathy's
question is implying. But I could see some of them maybe getting new
altmodes.

I think a better question is, who from ROTF will be returning? I'd
rather not see the Twins, just because, but I'd love to see more of
Sideswipe and Jolt, although I'm guessing Sideswipe also won't show up
because his altmode isn't even going into production.

Not unplausible, I just think it's unlikely. Plus, I don't see ILM
churning out new character models for guys they've had models for for
years now, especially when everybody was too lazy to actually make any
sense out of Devastator or his components.

They just might. After all, when's the next movie due? They'll
probably have improved thingamajigs to render stuff, so they'll want
to show it off with new designs and models and suchlike.

And since Oppy is now a true "Prime", they'll want to reflect it in
the best possible "lowest common denominator" fashion, with huge guns
full of awesomeness.

How about Oppy as a space-shuttle type thing, like Armada Jetfire? He
does have wings now, thanks to RoTF Jetfire, yes-yes? So his alt-mode
would integrate his new bits.

Or give him a trailer that he can merge into, like PM Prime or Armada
Prime or one of those others.

Megs will have to have a new alt-mode, 'cause Megs is like that. One
with an even bigger gun to compensate for his shortcomings.

Screamer... I really like the F-22, I do, I do. About the only way he
could trade up is if he turned into a VF-1 Valkyrie... or Cyclonus.

Bumblebee, should become a VW Bug, and his robot-mode should now have
a tiny little moustache, to honour one of the founders of Volkswagen.

No, he uncereminously dropped Jetfire's dead body parts to the ground
with a big, heavy clunk as soon as he was finished doing his Superman
impression.

I could see that. Prime's already done the merge thing, so it wouldn't be
out of the question.

It would have been pretty cool if Jetfire's parts in the movie had been
reconfigured into a trailer at some point post-battle, and the Movie 3
Prime was just the Movie 2 Prime mold with a black power-armor trailer
sporting the occasional SR-71 motif here and there.

It's not official, but you can get a decent jet mode out of Voyager
class Megatron. It might have been intentional but dropped for some
reason, but even if it isn't it's better than any of the TF1 Megatron
altmodes.
