Nightscream, definately NIghtscream.
The Armada kids.
Kicker.
Animated Blitzwing.
All of the other major characters in Animated were a lot of fun, but
Blitzwing just dragged down every scene he was in. Objectively, there
were dozens of worse characters in the many Transformers series before
Animated, but they often blended in with their surroundings, or were
only in a few episodes.
To compare him to Wheelie, I would want to consider replacing
Blitzwing with an evil version of Wheelie in every scene Blitzwing
appeared in. And that would have been awesome. Happy, rhyming, bouncy,
orange and evil.
Animated Wreck-Gar gets an honorable mention, but was mostly in self-
contained episodes.
G1 characters... Well, G1 was kind of weak by current standards, which
means that a bad character is a bit more forgivable, since they can't
screw things up that badly. S3 Grimlock was very annoying.
Gustavo!
Blitzwing!? Say it ain't so! I loved the non-sequiturs of the Crazy
Head. And the gimmick of him reverting to Angry Head if they get him
mad.
My least favourite character would probably be... Optimus Prime from
the G1 comics (Marvel, IDW, Dreamwave).
Now, now, let me finish. Don't everyone lynch me before I've had my
say.
I understand the Prime's the hero. I accept that. But I hate how
uppity he is, and how pompous he tends to be. I'd dislike cartoon
Prime too, if it weren't for two advantages:
- Peter Cullen's voice-work, portraying Prime as a cowboy hero in my
head; and
- the occasion dry humour (which would floor me the few times it
happened)
The angst is even worse. I'll take angst from cartoon Rodimus, 'cause
he's young, he's stupid, he's inexperienced, and because even when
he's an angsty bitch, he's still such a punk. But Optimus Prime
shouldn't be angsting like a teenager. We don't have to see into his
head, see how he's assailed by doubts. I'd rather have him just
standing there with his big frickin' rifle, ready to roll out to the
rescue. Why must angst exist to give him colour? Megatron doesn't have
any known weakness. Why should Prime? I preferred the Prime from the
first issue who unflinchingly set the Ark on a collision course with
Earth to kill the Decepticons along with his own crew.
And don't get me started on Afterdeath. I'll bet Ratchet forgot to
engage Prime's logic sensors when he hooked his head back on.
It's an ongoing theme with comics and Optimus Prime; everyone seems to
have trouble expressing heroism without latching in a whole lot of
self-doubt and recrimination and second-guessing. There will always be
an arc in which Prime questions himself, comes to some enlightening
conclusion which always reads like a fortune-cookie, and then goes out
to kick ass, which to me, always seems to come in completely the wrong
order.
I agree. I got tired of this a long time ago. At some point you think
Prime would say "okay, I've had my doubts before. But I'm the leader and
I know what must be done" then get on with it already. The latest thing
where he surrenders himself to the humans in IDW seemed ridiculous to
me. That goes beyond self-doubting into stupid territory.
t.k.
In lieu of lynching, can I shake you by the hand? Although I'm not so
bothered by comic Prime. It's the cartoon Optimus Prime that makes me
cringe. I can't stand this supposed ideal hero, a dictator who's
revered by his troops, universally adored.... Nobody's perfect, and I
much prefer the later incarnations of Optimus (and, of course,
Rodimus) who were flawed leaders.
Now, I know this is a bit of a sweeping statement, and there are
exceptions to G1 Optimus' portrayal, but generally, I think it's fair
to say that he was intended to be a very clear-cut good hero. He and
Megatron were good and evil, black and white with no shades of grey.
And this is something I'm very opposed to in a kid's cartoon, since I
think children need to be taught the subjectiveness of good and evil
from the start. I remember when I was seven or eight, I shamelessly
bullied another girl at school and campaigned to keep the other
children from being friends with her. It never occurred to me that
this was wrong, because for whatever childish reason, I had her pegged
as a 'bad' person.
May I note that karma got me at the next school I attended where I was
ostracised in my turn, and I reached my teens as a much nicer, wiser
person? But basically, I'm against the infallible role model
archetype, and more into the 'everybody makes mistakes' style of
storytelling for children.
Velvet Glove (the worst bit is the end of Triple Takeover when the
Autobots actually make themselves into a throne for Prime; I know he
turns them down, but.... that's just creepy)
I liked rodimus prime more of a leader during generation one in the
1980's. because he was more exciting,had a 3-d persona. had a very
edgy punk attitude. I loved watching the character evoulve from a
newbie leader to a more experierenced leader.
I kinda like the year 2000 thru 2010 Optimus Prime persona character.
he's got more flare & excitement to him that the 1980's optimus prime
had. he also has more passion,is a younger leader. he also has more of
a 3-d persona. his character grows & learns as the series progresses.
I like his bad ass attitude when he combines with other transformers.
Not a big fan of cartoon Powerglide.
I suspect the hand-shaking thing is a bit premature. See, that's
precisely what I liked about cartoon Prime, that he was so clear-cut
"good". I still preferred Roddy for his smart mouth, but Prime did
have his moments. Even that little thing at the end of Triple
Takeover, I liked how he handled it, very cowboy:
"Thrones are for Decepticons. Besides, I'd rather roll."
Peter Cullen made it all acceptable. Besides, how can you hate a
character who used the word "boobies" on television? Y'know, even if
he meant "fools or idiots", it's still boobs on TV.
Oh, I'm such a kid sometimes...

When expecting booby traps, always send in a boob.

At least All Hail Megatron dealt with this better by having Prime
physically incapacitated rather than emotionally. Even though some
elements weren't as well done as they could have been. (Issue 9, argh.
"Prime's in bad shape, he might die! Oh, wait, no he won't.")

I still like my one Jetfire fanfic, where Magnus and everybody else
all treat Prime like he's the second coming of Primus when he actually
just found the Matrix, became leader, and promptly ran away with a few
of his buddies because he was 'scared.'
And then Shockwave boarded the Ark, shot the control systems, and
decapitated Prime. And then sent Megatron on a wild goose chase across
the Universe looking for Prime. And then Jetfire finds Prime's head
and Prime's all, "Yeah I was kind of a douchebag. But don't tell the
other Autobots because then they'll lose hope."
