I'm currious though about the listing of Squawktalk's
alternate mode as being a parrot. I don't doubt the info
it seems I recall something about him beign one
floating somewhere iin the back of my mind, but I'm
really curious where exactly that identification comes from.
Is it stated on his package or elsewhere?

I can't say I remember hearing this one anywhere, and I think such a unique
designation would have stuck with me if I'd seen it on the Hasbro packaging.
It certainly makes *sense* for him to be a parrot, being all talkative and all,
but...
Maybe it's a Takara thing.

It's not mentioned in his tech spec, but I think it can be inferred from his
name if nothing else. Squawking and talking are attributed to parrots much
more so than other birds.

Hmm, no, according to the mail-in form (the only way Squawkbox was
available in Japan), he's comprised of a gorilla and an eagle. I think
Doug's got some explaining to do...

No, I have a packaged one, and nowhere does it say or imply that he is a
parrot.
The next post has been created to
irritate you, and make things generally unpleasant.

Ah, good to know. This clears up my confusion. I have Sqwaktalk, he's
probably among my favorite G1 TF's EVER... and his head looks NOTHING like a
parrot. Eagle is much more appropriate. Preybird he is.

I think Doug and Harold are knowledgeable and professional enough not to
label Squawktalk a parrot without something to back up that decision. I'll
trust them over some mail-in form any day, thank you very much.

I bought mine from the Sears catalog outlet store back when most small towns
had them.

I'm not questioning their knowledgeability, but they've made mistakes
before. If you're going to take the word of fans over an official source
(if you'd like I could possibly get the verdict from the designer himself,
I've met Mr. Doi once before), that's your perogative.
Seems like the info in Cybertronian isn't based on anything official other
than it somewhat matching his Tech Specs personality, but if they have
something to back it up, it would be somewhat interesting. His toy design
looks nothing like a parrot, however.
Don't see any reason to doubt the validity of the mail-in form, either, as
it correctly labeled Nightbeat as a Porsche.

But the mail-in form was from the toy company, I think they would know better
than the fans since they invented the toys.....
Tel that to Hun-ger (or is it Hun-grr?). And Doubledealer
supposedly transforms into an eagle, too, when he looks much
more like a vulture. And . . .
Aaron "The Mad Whitaker" Bourque; wasn't Airrazor supposed to
be an eagle too, at some point?

With no bird type specified on its packaging, Squawktalk's alt mode
seems to have generally been accepted as a parrot up until now anyway,
hasn't it? Rob Jung's Toy List agrees with that interpretation.
Sipher's Variations List calls it a condor, though. :-S
At any rate, I don't know that anyone's spoken up before about the
Japanese mail-in insert calling Squawktalk an eagle. While it doesn't
exactly fit the toy's tech spec profile in terms of gabbiness, it's
certainly as close as we've ever had to an official designation for the
alt mode.
Thanks to all who responded/commented.
