Is anybody interested in a watercolor painting of their favorite pony (custom
or otherwise)? I was fiddling with my paints last night (I've been painting
for many years), and thought it might be a nifty idea. I can do Earthlings,
Pegasi, Unicorns, and Babies at the moment. These are the poses I have so
far: http://www.geocities.com/Area51/7862/sketch.jpg (as you'll probably
guess, they're all from various pony movies ;)). Any of the earthlings can be
changed into unicorns, and the baby pony can be made into any type of pony
(unicorn, earthling, pegasus). These would be actual watercolor paintings
sent flat to your house, unmatted and unframed, on heavy, professional quality
watercolor paper (Aquarelle Arches, Rough, 144 Lb). This is a sample I did of

Wow! That painting's great, Talia! I myself tend to stick to acrylics when I paint--I can always
cover up what I don't like with more paint. Watercolor isn't quite so user-friendly ;P When I do paint with
watercolor I usually leave it more dreamy and less defined, simply because every time I try to get definition
it doesn't look right....oh well, I'll stick to acrylics and leave the watercolors to you--you're lots better
at it! I should actually do more watercolor work, though--practice makes perfect (or at least better).
Acanthi, who has various artistic "works-in-progress" lying about her house that she should actually
*finish* sometime!!!!(no pony art, though)

Kays, this shouldn't work, but it never hurts to try (and, to note, it didn't
work...was trying a different newsgroup server ;). The good news is that my
feeble mind figured out what a tat was during the intermission ;)). Anyhoo..
Sureness, go right ahead and use the outlines...since I copied them from the
mlp movies, I really can't claim them or anything ;). If you like I can send
you bigger versions of them. What I do is print them out, scribble pencil all
across the back of the paper, then place it on the good paper and trace them
on. It makes a perfect, light pencil outline to work from (none of the
pencil marks that are on the originals), and is a whole lot easier than trying
to trace them or draw from the screen. Also means you can make as many copies
as possible ^_^. I'm glad you got the stuff!!

ya, I know what you mean ^_^;;. watercolors take a lot of planning ahead of
time...masking fluid works well if you want an area to stay pure white, or if
you don't want anything to get on it when you work on another section
(available in art stores).

try waiting until the area completely dries before starting on a different
one. If a section next to the one you're working on is even a little bit
damp, you get the 'spidering effect' of one color bleeding into another one.
Also, varying the amount of water you add to the paint would obviously change
this too...if the brush is loaded with water, you won't be able to get any
difinitive edges ;).

Mmmkay, not sure how relevant this is to anything, but when I was in
junior high we had to do some watercolor painting, one of which was on
wet paper. Gave the colors a really kool look, but impossible to get any
actual definition. After making a colorful paper, though, we had to let
it dry and draw a scene on the colors. Works pretty good to make an
underwater background, imo.

Which is called, technically enough, the 'wet on wet' technique ;). I like to
have a lot of control over my paints, so I generally don't use it unless it's
a background I'm doing (such as the sky behind Starshine). It all depends on
what a person likes!

The problem with the summerwings is that, unfortunately, they were never shown
in the movies (or the tv series, as I recall). The paintings don't look right
when you take a toy pony and try to draw her (believe me, I've tried ^_^;;).
And the picture on dreamvalley MIGHT (just might) be possible to transform,
but it's much to small to work off of. Does anybody have that brochure
picture they'd be willing to scan in for me? I wouldn't take any money or
pony unless I was sure it was going to work out, and the drawing turned out
right. I was thinking about those summerwings too though...wouldn't it be
neat to paint real butterfly wings on them? :)

A very good idea! I was thinking of changing my picture of firefly, but I
agree that the baby would be better. I'll post down below if it works out
right! ^_^ I would LOVE to stick real-looking butterfly wings on a
summerwing/windywing...it's an adorable idea to have butterfly wings, but I
don't like the near flurescent colors they used. This'll be fun to try ^_^.
