Have a friend from the UK who's going to be in Houston for a week from
tomorrow visiting family.

He's going to be hanging around the city with his brother but will probably
rent a car for a few days so any recommendations re: sightseeing, bars,
restaurants etc. that might make his vacation memorable? Someone recommended
House of Blues and a couple of restaurants but any other suggestions would
be appreciated so I can pass them on to him.

Thanks

Garry

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is excellent - I think regular
exhibits are free but traveling exhibits do cost $.

Much smaller but still interesting is the Museum of Printing History.

If he likes art there is the Houston Museum of Fine Art (and that new
exhibit on the Moon and Space travel looks cool!)

http://www.mfah.org

And speaking of Space - there is of course the Space Center of
"Houston We Have a Problem" fame:

Of the 4 I've listed - The Space Center is the most touristy - crowds,
long lines, high prices, etc.

I guess you could send those 4 links and see if anything is of
interest.

Thanks. He's a professional photographer so I guess the Contemporary Korean
Photography exhibit at the MFAH might be his thing. I'll pass on the links
to him. I just want him to bring me back a Jake or Elwood Blues rubber ducky
:-)

Right outside the MFA is a great sculpture garden if he likes
photographing sculpture.

There is the USS Texas battleship just outside of town and a submarine
(USS Cavalla) and a Destroyer Escort (USS Stewart) in Galveston. The
DE is one of only two left in the world.

There is also the tall ship Elissa in Galveston and they have a great
musuem.

The Houston version of http://www.medievaltimes.com/.
