I saw it. Enjoyed it. Will likely request a copy for good frolicking
brain candy over the holidays.
I liked Joe well enough but I don't know if I'll bother to watch it
again.

Same here. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I ordered the blu-ray
version for $19.99 from amazon. Should be here soon...

"G.I. Joe - It's the real thing"
It was most definitely better than the Transformer movie (#1 - I didn't
bother seeing #2), but I don't think I'll be buying a copy until it ends
up in the $4.99 bin at Wal-Mart.
I am still hoping that one day, there will be a cool AT movie. I would
love to see something similar to the Challengers of the Unknown (not the
origin per se, but the types of adventures they go on.) I know it is
extremely unlikely. But then again, I never thought that they would
make a movie about my favorite super-hero (Iron Man), or that they would
make a live action Lord of the Rings that could hold a candle to the books!
In addition to an AT movie, I'm also hoping that someone makes a great
John Carter, Warlord of Mars movie! Given the large number of Tarzan
movies that were made, I think JC deserves his shot! Finally, I would
love to see a big budget Dr. Who movie. That would be awesome!

From other reviews:
"I don't mind if something blows up every five minutes so long as I'm
given a reason to care why something is blowing up every five
minutes."
"The only collateral damage is in the audience, where, as you sit
through the movie, you can feel your IQ drop minute by minute."
Cringe-inducing diaglogue:
The Doctor: "Now that we have a moment to ourselves... I've designed
something especially for you, James." [The Doctor injects nanomites
into James McCullen's head.] "This will only hurt a little. What
comes next... more so. Nanomites, perfect little healers." [James
McCullen's head becomes completely silver.]
Destro: "...I've finally taken my place in the long line of
McCullens."
The Doctor: "James McCullen is no more. Now, you are Destro."
Destro: "What have you done to me?"
The Doctor: "The time has come for the cobra to rise up and reveal
himself. You will call me... Commander."
Because I grew up during the time of Vietnam I would like to see more
war GIJOE movies...not that hippie AT baloney ;-0 ....But as long as
Joe doesn't sell I doubt we'll see and AT movie anytime soon let alone
another GIJOE movie... ;-0
Hey Tanker, what is 'AT'?
berk
There's always THE STORY OF G.I. JOE (1945), starring Burgess Meredith
as WWII correspondent Ernie Pyle, who was killed on the front before
the movie came out. Robert Mitchum gave an attention-grabbing
performance as one of the G.I.'s and he got his only Oscar nomination
for it. William Wellman directed.
Yeah, I wanted to jam an ice pick in each ear after hearing that bit!
First McCullen says "I've finally taken my place..." which seems to
me to mean "Finally, my head is silver, like my great-great
Grandfather's", then he says "What have you done..." Which seems to
mean "AAAHHH! MY HEAD IS SILVER!"
Also, there wasn't a single moment Cobra Commander was on screen that
didn't suck royally. It was a character created by a writer, a costume
designer, and an actor who should never have quit their day jobs.
The only thing I liked in that movie was Ripcord. Wayans made him a
likeable, if somewhat overly comical character. Duke was so wooden, he
and Anakin Skywalker should be standing in front of a cigar store
somewhere.
I wanted to like SnakeEyes, or, more accurately, his fight scene with
Storm Shadow. but the editor couldn't leave that scene alone. He
should have sat down, grabbed a bucket of popcorn, and let Ray Parks
do his job.
Form all this, you may think I hated the movie, However, I had low
expectations to begin with, given that I HATED the cartoon.
(HATED,HATED,HATED IT!) If the movie had been two hours of SnakeEyes
and Larry the Cable Guy lighting each others' farts, it still would
have been better than the cartoon, so what they came up with was
better than I expected.
Besides, my boys liked it, and it gave them more of a connection to
Joes, so I can't complain there. They'll probably get it from Santa
for Christmas.

Oh, and Tanker? A.T. ROCKS DA HOUSE!!!! (even if the house is made of
vinyl, and folds for storage!) So there! ;-P

The movie was mindless crapola, but I didn't mind it. I enjoyed
watching Sienna Miller strut around in the tight leather!

Adventure Team... Hasbro moved away from the military G.I. Joe to the
Adventure Team. In England he was called ( and I believe still is)
Action Man.
Tom
As Joe set off in search of yeti's, white tigers and radioactive meteorites,
Action Man was still sticking it to the bad guys. Up to that point Joe and
AM were pretty much interchangeable. I wasn't even aware of the AT Joes
until I got back in to the hobby in the 90s and bought my first collectors
guide.
Garry
Liked the story. Liked the set up for a sequel that won't get made.
Liked the tech used/hated the actor for Duke.
Want way more Baroness/scarlett/who was the blond chick........
WessD FLY NAVY!
I just watched the movie again on DVD this week. It was better the
second time around, knowing what to expect I guess. It's not going to
win any Oscars, but as a CGI action-adventure flick, it's okay. I
really take exception to Ebert's review though:
"His conquest plans are not sophisticated. He launches four nano-
missiles at world capitols. Two of them are Moscow and Washington. The
third one is destroyed, and if I'm not mistaken the fourth one is
forgotten by the plot and is still up there somewhere. But that's the
kind of detail I tend to get wrong, because that's more fun than
getting it right."
FOUR warheads sold to NATO, stolen back by Cobra. All FOUR weaponized
in Paris. ONE warhead then takes down the Eiffel Tower. The other
THREE are used on the missiles for Bejing, Moscow, and Washington DC.
THREE missiles clearly launch from the Arctic. Snake Eyes takes out
ONE as it launches, Ripcord takes out the other TWO in the Night
Raven.
Ebert is a professional reviewer. He gets paid to watch movies. He
should at least pay attention! The plot is not that difficult to
follow. Sheesh! He pretty much admits in that same statement that
he's BS'ing by that point: "But that's the kind of detail I tend to
get wrong, because that's more fun than getting it right." At least
be accurate - or lose all credibility in anything you say.

I agree. I would rather it have been an action movie called GI JOE and
have a smattering of real world military
with good old adventure team story and feats. But then, wouldn't that
just be a Raiders of the Lost Ark ? i would have really gone for
daring Helicopter rescues (the guardian) and awesome underwater
sequences about recovery of lost items and a desert mummy scene and
maybe a realistic shoot out
in a jungle, and then we could all say, wow, Tomb Raider was better
and Indy was funnier and The Mummy was faster and on and on....
While RoC is neat, it's a live action cartoon. And I liked it for what
it is, but then, I like toy commercials, and that is RoC in a
nutshell. a big name, with flashy effects to sell toys.
But it keeps the brand alive, and keeps the hopes alive and it
introduces new kids to our make believe world.
WessD GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY!
LOL! Now that I would believe!
