The fact about art is that it is felt. Intellecualizing it is just a futile
exercise in mental masturbation.
I feel that the piece is juvenille in form, boring in subject, lacking
composition and balance, and lacks any sense of originality. There, now
didn't that sound like the crock of shit it is in truth?

most of my friends are artists. the people you're discussing are just at
the opposite end of the spectrum as the 'it's fucking stupid! fuck! fuck!'
people. they're equally useless.

one can and will and should attempt to intellectualize life and all of its
emotions. art promotes thought. thought is intellectual.

it's a bad report on the piece, IMO, but if it's your take, at least you're
saying 'it's not for me'.. instead of "you fucking suck, loser!". truth is
personal. therefore relative. if that's your truth, fine, who am i to say
it isn't true?
art has become very intellectual, even overly intellectual, and still, the
question remains::::: is it art? that question will never die, because only
you can answer it, and you can't convince anyone else of your opinion.
many people are often intimidated by what they don't understand. they poke
fun at the people in galleries talking about the lineage of modern art, from
rothko and pollack to today's mind benders. but ask a modern abstract or
installation artist what they're trying to convey... they'll be able to tell
you, and it will seem real and honest and true, 9 out of 10 times. don't
hate the art because of the people who are looking at it...
