I've written a couple of lovely little xview apps under linux but
when I try to port them to solaris on this sparc I get all sorts of
errors with the Imakefile.
It can't find XView.tmpl or XView.prog or half of the xview libraries.
HELP !! :-)
Cheers,
Dave Durant.
I suspect you're stuffed, as Sun appear to have bollocksed the imake stuff in
SunOS. You could always provide all the required support code with your
utilities (blech).

These files are included in the XView distribution in the directory config.
So get the distribution (the actual version is 3.2) by ftp.
Alternatively, I can mail you the configuration files.

This may seem obvious, but
1. Is OPENWINHOME set correctly on the Sun,
2. Have you done xmkmf on the Sun ?
3. What version of Xview is on the Sun ? Is it Xview 3 ?

Don't you love SunOS?
The reason why it doesn't work is because the standard SunOS imake is
totally knackered. Don't use it. The solution to the problem is to nuke
OpenWindows and install X11R6, I'm afraid (that's what I'm using now).
The X11R6 imake works fine.
If you can't do that, then don't use an Imakefile. Use a standard
Makefile. The includes you need are:
INCLUDES = -I$(OPENWINHOME)/include
...which should find most things, though from what you're saying, it
sounds as if XView hasn't been installed properly.

Difficult if you're not root, which I'm not. Anyone else admit to having
X11R6 in their account? :)
Not really that difficult. For imake to work correctly you just need to
tinker with some files, which you can copy from the standard distribution.
I just have my own copy of xmkmf, which includes my own library files, a
copy of which can normally be found in /usr/openwin/lib/config. Tweak all
files with the correct pathnames, en there you go. Working imake stuff.
