Men bare all on election day
29 July 2002

A small group of Dunedin voters got a bum steer on Saturday. But political
parties were not at fault.
Instead, the culprits were four men intent on showing off too much flesh
when they wandered into Roslyn Presbyterian Church hall polling booth
wearing little more than smiles. Scrutineer Bernadette Bryant said the four
naked men arrived about 12.15pm.

The official in charge of the booth was initially reluctant to let them in
but after a check with voting headquarters was told the men were "exercising
their democratic right to vote in the nude".

Mrs Bryant said the steady stream of voters coming in and out of the booth
hardly "batted an eyelid" at the group, who after voting played up to crowd
briefly and then disappeared.

The prank was part of National Nude Day. A police patrol also came across
two people cycling in the nude in the city on Saturday night.

Senior Sergeant Tom Fitzgerald said they were given a warning but not
arrested.
