Have you noticed how many pieces of mean-spirited email spam you have
received attacking Obama - and how many do you receive attacking
McCain? Have you noticed the ratio runs about 100 to 1. Why would
that be?
Does it mean the Republican fringe is so desperate, so out of ideas,
so cluelessly out of touch, and so lacking in integrity that they are
incapable of an intelligent and HONEST discussion of the candidates
and issues? Are Republicans capable of nothing more than wholesale
"FEAR AND SMEAR" tactics in the grand tradition of Bush's odious
'swift-boaters'?
But not to digress to far afield let's examine the seven points put
forth by one "Mark Gregg".
The Claim:
1. I hear your mantra of change, change, change. Yet, you picked a
long term, liberal, Washington insider (Joe Biden) to be your running
mate. ... Your campaign then slammed McCain for picking Sarah Palin,
apparently, because she is NOT a Washington insider. She is a
maverick who c leaned-up Alaska's quagmire of political scandals.
Which way is it, Barack? Is it okay for you to pick a Washington
insider under the mantra of 'change', but not okay for John McCain to
pick a smart, aggressive, reformer?
Reality Check:
Change is not dependent upon years of public service. McCain himself
has tried to plagiarize Obama's change message - but it just doesn't
work for him. McCain claims to be a 'maverick' but is saddled with
this very fundamental truth:
If You Vote For Bush 90% Of The Time You Are Not A Maverick - You Are
A TEAM PLAYER!
It's ridiculous to look to those that caused the horrific problems of
our day to solve the problems they caused. McCain is an old-timer who
has been in lock-step complicity with Bush the whole time. He may not
be Bush, but he can't articulate any differences in how he would do
things differently.
If one asks what 'quagmire of political scandals' Palin is supposed to
have cleaned up one receives one answer -----Nothing!
Palin is herself is a quagmire of scandal. She has been found guilty
- BY UNANIMOUS VOTE OF HER OWN BIPARTISAN COLLEAGUES - of unethical
behavior and abuse of power in the Troopergate scandal. She tried to
stonewall the investigation, then when found guilty refuses to be
accountable for her own despicable behavior.

She and her husband Todd have for years been 'palling around' with
treasonists. That's what you call people who associate with a
political party that espouses hatred for America and calls for the
secession of Alaska from the United States. Palin has welcomed the
Alaska Independent Party to their conventions as recently as March,
2008. To see what the AIP is, what they stand for, and to see the
Palin's involvement watch the VIDEO.
So how 'smart' is this Palin candidate?
It took her 5 schools and 6 years to finally get her basic degree, in
Journalism. When Catie Couric asked her to simply name the
publications (newspapers, magazines, books, etc) that she reads to be
informed about the basics of political and everyday life SHE COULDN'T
NAME A SINGLE ONE!
And this is from a Journalism major!
When asked to name a single Supreme Court case she disagreed with,
(other than Roe v. Wade) she couldn't name one!
When asked to name a single instance where McCain had fought against
the deregulation that has devastated the world's economy - she
couldn't name a one! (She promised that she would 'get back to ya',
but of course never did.)
She is clueless about The Bush Doctrine, the fundamental guiding
principle of the Bush presidency.
She is clueless about Global Warming.
She is functionally incapable of offering a single, coherent, straight-
forward unscripted answer to much of anything. Without her carefully
rehearsed and teleprompted babble she is helpless.
Watch the interview videos of Palin - and try to stifle a cringe
reflex. Couric Gibson1 Gibson2
Is it not now obvious why Palin's campaign handlers will no longer let
her have open interviews with reporters, something that Obama, Biden,
and even McCain do regularly? Why? She's obviously an incompetent
Bimbo!
And she could be president?!?!?
This is why leading conservative Republican commentator Kathleen
Parker recently said the following while calling for Palin's
resignation:
"Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood.
Cut the verbiage and there's not much content there. . .
If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street
herself. . . .
Only Palin can save McCain, her party, and the country she loves. She
can bow out for personal reasons, perhaps because she wants to spend
more time with her newborn. No one would criticize a mother who puts
her family first.
Do it for your country. "

The Claim
2. You have the single most liberal voting record in the senate. This
indicates to me and others like me that you may very well be an angry
black man seeking to punish our country for sins of a different
generation. . . .
She (Michele Obama) is an angry black woman who appears to not like
her country very much.
Reality Check:
It is a stunning logical disconnect to equate a so-called 'liberal
voting record' with being a supposed 'angry black man seeking to
punish our country . . .'.
Mr. Gregg supplies not the slightest evidence to support any part of
this bigoted claim.
After following the recent televised debates it is abundantly clear
that Obama is a calm, thoughtful, respectful, and highly intelligent
man with a high regard for the opinions of others. There is not the
slightest evidence of a desire on his part to 'punish our country.'
Quite the contrary: he wants to pull our country out of the
disastrous catastrophe of the utterly failed Bush administration. If
anyone is angry and tempermental, who shows impulsive and impetuous
behavior, it is John McCain.
In repeated interviews, and in her presentation at the Democratic
National Convention, Ms. Obama has repeatedly emphasized her love for
her country, her husband, her family. Her speech at the DNC was a
stirring, inspiring tribute to the highest of traditional American
values. VIDEO HERE
The Claim:
3. . . . I know that if you are elected our taxes will spiral upwards.
. . . a balanced budget will never, ever happen on your watch.
Reality Check:
By what objective evidence does Gregg claim to 'know' that our taxes
will increase under Obama? He offers no evidence whatsoever other
than his bias.
Repeatedly Obama has assured Americans that for the average American
taxpayer earning under $250,000 would see a tax CUT. The independent
FactCheck.org has carefully examined Obama's and McCain's claims and
concludes that "For now, Joe ("the plumber") would certainly qualify
for a tax cut under Obama's plan. "
In fact any person reading this can calculate what their own tax cut
would be under Obama by clicking: TAX CUT
It should also be noted that the last time our nation had a balanced
budget was under a Democratic President - Bill Clinton. Something
Pelosi and other democrats have been calling for for years.
Under Bush our national debt has doubled - ballooning to over $10
trillion!
The Claim:
4. During your question and answer session with Rick Warren of
Saddleback Church your answer concerning the question of where does
life begin, stunned me: 'Above your pay grade?'. . .
You will choose your words not from your heart, but from an agenda
that I believe is still hidden from the American people.
Reality Check:
Senator Obama was using basic colloquial phrasing, speaking to the
common man's experience. His statement was a humble recognition that
he does not pretend to have all the answers to all of life's
questions. Other colloguialisms we have heard of late that are just
downright embarrassing include 'You betcha', or 'I can see Russia from
my house.'
Mr. Gregg is, of course, entitled to believe whatever he chooses, but
the simple fact is he has not presented, and has zero evidence for,
any so-called 'hidden agenda' on the part of Senator Obama. Mr. Gregg
is revealing his own prejudices.
The Claim:
5. If anything stands out about you it is probably your appeasement
mentality.
Reality Check:
And the evidence, or clear examples, of this supposed 'appeasement
mentality' would be ----What?
Hmmm, Mr. Gregg doesn't supply even one. Perhaps because none exist.
What Senator Obama does say is this:
""What you won't hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of
politics that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon
-- that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but
enemies to demonize."" – Barack Obama, June 3, 2008
The Claim:
6 . . . the school can skirt her (a 13-14 year old girl) off to a
clinic and abort the child in her body without the parents knowing or
being notified. This scares the hell out of me. You have two little
girls. Would you be upset if this happened to them and you were not
informed? Then why do you stand for this? It makes no sense to me.
Reality Check:
Mr Gregg fails, again, to provide any evidence for his claim that
schools 'skirt' 13 year old girls off to secretly abort babies. This
is an outrageous and misinformed exercise in ignorance and bigotry.
Gregg further provides ZERO evidence that Obama 'stands' for this.
Senator Obama does support responsible family planning and transparent
women's rights legislation.
Mr. Gregg, however, displays a bad habit of random, highly exaggerated
hyperbole unrelated to any objective evidence.
The Claim:
7. My seventh and final point (for now) is your supporters. I have
watched the Hollywood entertainers who support you,...When the devil
is for you, we should question whether or not we should be against
you.
Reality Check:
Senator Obama does not dictate Mr. Gregg's choice of employment, and
does not control who individually supports his campaign. It's called
freedom of choice. Mr. Gregg displays a presumptuous arrogance when
he thinks he knows which candidate 'the devil' supports. It would
seem that Obama's concern for the poor among us, as opposed to
McCain's 'palling' with big corporations, is much closer to being
Christlike than what the Republicans have done the past eight years.
Who would Jesus bomb? What country would Jesus invade? What helpless
victims of Hurricane Katrina would Jesus ignore? Who would Jesus
torture? Who would Jesus illegally spy on? What deliberate lies to
promote war would Jesus tell?
This is the heritage of the Republican party for the past eight years,
the same party McCain now represents.
Which party shows all the signs of 'devilish' influence?
Summary:
Mr. Gregg is entitled to his views, but even a cursory examination of
his 'Seven Points' reveals a remarkable lack of objectivity, of even a
cursory knowledge of current events. Indeed it seems Mr. Gregg relies
almost entirely on his 'gut feelings' to arrive at highly erroneous
conclusions and assumptions. It was Pres. Bush's 'gut feelings' that
led us into the disastrous Iraq War (he just 'knew' there were WMDs
there).
Things have gotten so bad that even Karl Rove(gasp!) has stated McCain
has gone over the line in his negativity. Even Palin, who has engaged
in considerable smear campaigning on her own, has repudiated the
McCain's campaign of vicious robocalls. To which Obama noted: "You
know, you really have to work hard to violate Gov. Palin's standards
on negative campaigning."
I suggest it is far better, and much more Christlike, if we rise above
our inherent biases, bigotry, and prejudices and reject the all too
familiar "Fear and Smear" tactics carried over from the Bush
campaigns, and exemplified in Mr. Gregg's letter.
Geeez, What a leftist windbag. The People that are buying this election
certainly are getting their moneys worth with an Idiot like you. All of
us on the entire internet receive nasty Obama emails. McCain seems to
only email to those that have signed up for it.. Thus among other things
you are a liar.
