As many of you know, Melody and I have been housing a single mom and her
two kids for more than a year now, since early last August. She's 29, with
an 8-yo girl and a 7-yo boy. I've been working from home and taking care of
them since she went into the hospital.

She's been in the hospital since 18 September, and had a Very Bad Reaction
to some of the drugs she was given. That reaction includes Stevens-Johnson
Syndrome: she has a whole-body (plus mucous membranes and orifices)
rash, and her epidermis is separating from the dermis. She's shedding a
significant portion of her skin, and they're not sure they got the drugs
stopped in time.

I just learned about it today, and this is very close to the top of the
list of Things I Want Never To Happen To Me, right up there with Lou Gehrig
Disease. BBBBrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Please include her in your prayers and good wishes, and ask your friends to
do likewise. Her name, if they want to know it, is Jennifer.

Yes, Java is so bulletproofed that to a C programmer it feels like being in a
straitjacket, but it's a really comfy and warm straitjacket, and the world
would be a safer place if everyone was straitjacketed most of the time.

Jeez. Sounds like a House episode.
