jgostin and mturner, in conjunction with ASR, ATSR, BOFH, U2, and the
numbers 0x45 [0] and 0x2A proudly present...

THE "BECAUSE IT'S TIME FOR OCTOBER" BOFHBOF, OCTOBERBASH, AND RECOVERY PARTY

Date: Friday, 2 OCT 98

Time: 19:00

Where: Fibbar McGee's, Castro Street, Mountain View

What: Spirits, Recovery, Bar Food, and quite possibly a special
performance-appearance by a local favorite.[3]

Why: BECAUSE IT'S TIME FOR OCTOBER! We want to worship the heady days of
olde when September actually ended, and the Chicken Was Feared.
Commiseration, laughs, and a good time will be had by all!

Please contact me if you're going to be attending (even if it's a "maybe")
so we can get a relative idea of how many people will be there. Directions
available upon request. Fibbar McGee's is a pub/bar-like environment and
requires patrons to be 21 years of age or older.

As an added bonus, Fibbar McGee's even has both Pear Cider -and- Trina[4].

[0] yes, a refrence to TTTSNBN [1]
[1] but you can have sex on the beach [2] if you so desire
[2] which isn't a refrence to TTTSNBN
[3] Hint: Thursday nights. No promises made. We'll see what happens.
[4] She Who Is Exceptionally Cool And Serves Purple Hooters [5] With Flair!
[5] Nifty stuff, although I don't remember what's in it. [6]
[6] Even if it sounds like it, this isn't a "college drinking party". :)

I presume this must be somewhere in the US, since the author didn't
think it was necessary to say which country.

He didn't mention the state, either, in that case. I don't think there
is a Mountain View near here, at least. A view from a mountain[1], maybe.

[1] Or so claim the locals[2]. But so did the locals in Mentor, Ohio[2], and
that definitely wasn't.

[2] Mount Washington

[3] Little Mountain, which is really a foothill.

Forgive me... I assumed (DOH!!) that "BA" was a fairly well-known
abbreviation in these parts. Don't ask me where I got that impression.

BA == San Francisco Bay Area :)

Reminds me of a question I've had floating around in the back of my
head for a long time. I've always thought that the abbreviation for
Mountain was Mtn., but my father always told me it was Mt. He _was_ a
postal worker for a while, but he can't be right, cause that's just
wrong.

Anybody in the know?

-Ansel (Lives in Mountain View, familiar with Castro street, but never
been inside Fibbar McGees 'cause I'm underage.)

ObASR: Thank god for 3com, and their repair policy. If you've ever
had one of their products go bad, you know what I mean. Why isn't
this the normal state of affairs?
--
I used to be convinced that MicroSquish shipped crap because they simply
didn't give a flying fuck as long as the sheep kept buying their shit.
Now, I'm convinced that they really do ship the best products they are
capable of writing, and *that's* tragic.

"Mt." is "Mount" (i.e. Mount Washington); "Mtn." is the usual abbreviation
for "Mountain", but some people prefer "Mt." for symmetry. I note that
"Table Mtn." seems to make more sense than "Table Mt.".

Much cider was consumed, and a good time was had by all. Someone will
be along shortly with the quotes. As promised, there is now a BA-ASR
mailing list. Email ba-asr-...@lists.cap.gov with the usual info.

If Mike approximated correctly, we had 21 people there. Definately a -good-
turn out! Thanks for hosting the mailing list. :)

I've since been informed of ba-...@talamasca.com, the original BA-ASR
list, so send email to majo...@talamasca.com with the usual info.

Finaly got around to finding the paper, a working net connection[1] and
time... but here they are:

6163 = 0xF0AD

World's most expensive mouse pad: 16 CPU O2000 (sgi)

several instances of C|N>C (Cider & chair...)

OSPF, isnt that sunscreen?

If God was a BOFH, 90% of the world would be denied net access.
God is a luser.

Its a FOX special, The Sysadmins Revenge

Well, the band is better than last time.
- Thats not saying much.

Tonights band: The Uncool and the Gay

That does it, I'm changing proffessions. Bartender next.
(said after female bartender was getting something from above the bar
and had shirt ride up and breasts right at eye level.)

She's got whiped cheam!
-You're evil, don't make me think those thoughts.
(said about above bartender)

Leather pants oh yea!
(our attention got diverted by a young woman in tight leather pants)

The Thoughts That Shall Not Be Named
- To late

I see dancing bunny men!
(bad disco music being played)

I don't think we are in philodolphia anymore.
(We were drunk, can't spell, the slurs might be in there too)[2]

(and back to the young woman in leather pants)
She is built like a 10 year old boy.
-You are missing the first preposition, 'she'
Who ami I to have standards?

The best chance at 0% is still 0%
-even for very large values of 0.
The only woman present has a better chance than we do!!
-I'm swithicng to your shampoo, deododrant, toothpaste, whatever.
Atleast someone is keeping the women in the valley happy.

There's a note here that mimes don't translate well to ascii.

What was that circular motion?
(apologies to Frank Zappa)

Eight bit bar bills

Maximum quality rendering of my nuts.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

You will note that as the evening went on, our thoughts were... odder.
I still don't recognize the handwriting of the last two... way too neat
to be mine.

All in all, it was quite a night.

ObASR: the last one of this calibur was my 'I'm not a sysadmin anymore'
party back in June. What showed up on my desk that friday... a new
Ultra5. I'm the admin of it for our team. IT dosn't have the root
password[4].

[1] IT has been moving the numbers from 192.x.y.z to 10.x'.y'.z' and
migrating the dhcp capable machines to dhcp[3]
[2] I can't speel even if I'm not drunk.
[3] Fortuantly, my linux box hasn't been touched, other than its IPaddr.
[4] We consider this a good thing at the moment.
