TOPS-10 7.04 tables and course notes

ping Quadibloc
I was looking at your front panel website; you might be interested in this photo - a normal pdp-15 console and an XVM console. There are indeed a couple of slight difference in the legend for a couple of lights: [link] There are a very few pdp-15s floating around, but I have the only two XVMs that... more »

Evolution of Floating Point
...The KL-10 and KS-10 are the only released DEC microcoded implementations. Later Foonlys were microcoded, would have to dig around if the Super Foonly (ie. F1) was. Not sure if which of the Systems Concepts machines were. Was talking to the person who designed the console processor for the F1 a few weeks ago, and he told me there was a Foonly implementation that... more »

50Hz vs. 60Hz?
Folks, I'd appreciate some thoughts in general, and on some specific cases, on using 50Hz DEC equipment on 60Hz power, since I've started processsing and restoring a large quantity of DEC equipment I've brought over from my UK storage to the USA: 1. Thinking about old DEC logic power supplies in general (pdp-8, -11, -12, -15... more »

Spare H960 racks anyone?
Title says it all... I'm in need of a few (up to 10) H960 racks in decent (rust-free) shape. Anyone who can help, please reply! Failing that I'll need to get out the sandblaster and the spraygun! Mike

SPR: Bug in NFT on Tops-10 7.04
We have been working on putting our Massbus Disk Emulator (MDE) into production on the Living Computer Museum's 2065[1], and ran into an interesting problem which we thought at first was a dreadfully obscure bug in the MDE. End-stage testing consisted of using NFT to copy files from the RP06[2] to an... more »

Working on Chromium's FTP code, testing with VMS FTP servers
...In addition to VMS, you should ensure that your FTP client code works with TOPS-20 FTP servers. FTP Software Inc., for example, broke their TOPS-20 client code (tried to made TOPS-20 diectory specifications look like VMS), then insisted that we (XKL, my PPOE) change TOPS-20 to look like VMS. When,... more »

I'm still looking for the V11 tape, but did find one for V10. It wasn't in very good shape (4 bad blocks) but what was recoverable is up under [link]

Disks' bit housekeeping on TOPS-10
Heads up, Rich! Some time ago, in some newsgroup, I couldn't remember the names of the programs we used to maintain disks (essentially finding the bad blocks and marking them so nobody lost their data). Somebody pointed Stephen Wolfe at the post and he emailed me the answers. TW would use DSKRAT. It is not a program to be used for... more »
