Gateway Solo 2500 opinions

I was thinking about purchasing a Gateway Solo 2500 and would like to know what
people who have the unit think of it.

I purchased a 2500LS last July and have been very happy with it. The first
HD that came with the unit has a little flaky, but Gateway was quick to
replace it and I have not had a single problem since. I am primarily
running NT on it which has been phenomenally stable. I have not had a
single crash. I purchased NT with the laptop so it also came with software
from Systemworks to add much better PCMCIA and power management support.
The battery life is great, I typically get 4.5 to 5 hours on a charge.

I have the PII 233 with 160megs of RAM and I do not see a very big
difference between it and my PII 450 desktop at work. I am sure that the
newer mobile PII's are even better. The 13.3" display is great, and having
the CD and floppy both in the chassis is nice as well.

Personally I have not had the opp to work with the 2500LS. However, at this
time, I would refuse to purchase anything from Gateway. In my company,
which I am the MIS for, we have numerous Gateways, Dells and Microns. The
only problems we experience are with the inability to find parts for the
Gateway. It seems that they are all, or at least most, proprietary parts
and even then, it is getting more and more difficult to get parts. And,
when you can get parts, it seemingly takes an extra amount of time for those
parts to arrive. I have not been able to locate SDRAM that will work in one
of my computers anywhere locally at all. Also, it took over 2 weeks to
receive a power supply that cost over $75.00. I can see how they are making
their money.

i have a 2500 XL. PII 266MHZ with 128 SDRAM. It's running pretty well. I
had quite a tough choices between Dell and Gateway. Thing is Gateway has
an option for point track as the mouse rather than the touch pad.
Somehow, I just hate the touch pad. Also, I love the sleek soft keys of
Gateway. Dell's keys are too deep and unsightly.

But one thing about gateway, they are indeed a little pricer.

I just bought a new 2500XL PII-333 128RAM DVD & LS120 drive...I am amazed at the
machine...quite easy to changes whatever I wanted...battery life is great...I watch
two DVD movies with one battery charge...it has been great. I would recommend it to
everyone. I took this weekend to some friends house, they have desktops from GW2K
also, and now they are planning on buying laptops...

The only fallback it has..it only comes with 2MB of video...so no games in the
laptop.Other than that, no problem...
