"Apple is like Sony 20 years ago, everyone had to have Sony and Sony always delivered much less than the competition at a higher price, and finally people broke out of the system...People are calling it jailbreak when they finally get away from the ecosystem of Apple".

The same might be said of Windows OS.

Funny thing. My wife and I had a similar conversation about Apple this morning, after seeing the EIGHT FULL PAGES of ads by Samsung in the A section of today's New York Times. Samsung spent a few bucks there.

Yes, the Windows ecosystem is becoming shaky, too, and Micro$oft seems to be doing everything possible to make it worse from Windows 8 to Office 2013 to Office 365... Ben

Ok but what's the practical alternative to Windows OS for pc's now ? I
know that Windows 8 is not a favorite of many.

Well, I wish I could say it is Linux? But which one? Even excluding the specialized custom build versions of Linux (e.g. computer forensics, firewall, NAS server), there are so damned many of them. It's like every Linuxoid techie wants to get fame without fortune by releasing his own Linux distribution.

My best guess is that the paradigm shift that brings about Microsoft's demise as most popular purveyor of operating systems and office suites will be more radical than just another operating system that uses Intel and AMD CPUs. Maybe the shift is happening already with Ipads, Android phones and other "fondle-slabs" as the on-line British Inquirer calls them. And Microsoft has made its own lame attempt to jump on board with its Windows 8 tablets... Ben Myers
