Monday AM, I woke about 6:00 AM, and knew there was
something totally wrong with my digestion. Headed for the
bathroom, to drive the porcelean bus. Sadly, the bus route
ran twice that day, there was also a 10:30 drive. Spent the
entire day in bed. Every time I woke, I drank three swollows
off the water bottle I keep by my bed for moments like this.

Here it is, Wednesday. I'm still weak. Went out yesterday,
and did one service call. Oughta not, but I need the money.

Been thinking that I'd really be a mess if there was a
crisis, and I had to bug out. Feeling as poorly as I do, I'd
be sure to make a complete screw up of the bug out.

I hope the folks on the list recognize the reality of
illness, and make some kind of adjustments for the chance of
being ill when the moment of need arrives.

Aaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!
Another flue victim!!!
;-)

That or you’ve been eating your own cooking again.
;-)

Hope you have a good stock of toilet paper.

I got the flue a couple of years ago and it is the pits.
Thought I was going to die, or at least I wished I would so it would
be over.
;-)

I personally stand by the philosophy that if the body is trying to
expel things threw either end, then let it.
Nothing to stop diarrhea or vomiting.
Let it kick that nasty stuff out of me, so long as I can keep
supplying myself with something to spew.

You are completely right about how this sort of thing can totally
change ones plans for keeping alive.

Always have a good stock of food, water, fuel, and basic medicine
right in the house where a sick person can crawl to it.

When my back blows out I can hardly set up, let lone walk far or stand
long.

I believe this falls back to the insignificant other thread that was
going around a day or so back.

SM: I was thinking food poisoning. Same symptoms as the time
I foolishly at the unheated hot dog off the cafe rollers at
Walmart.

That or you've been eating your own cooking again.
;-)

SM: I think that's it.

Hope you have a good stock of toilet paper.

SM: Havn't used much TP in the last few days.

I got the flue a couple of years ago and it is the pits.
Thought I was going to die, or at least I wished I would so

;-)

SM: Sounds about right. I spent Monday in bed. Had a pint
water bottle from the last time I did th is. Every time I
woke up, drink three small gulps of water.

I personally stand by the philosophy that if the body is
trying to
expel things threw either end, then let it.
Nothing to stop diarrhea or vomiting.
Let it kick that nasty stuff out of me, so long as I can

SM: Hard to keep drinking water when it's all a'gonna come
flying back out. But, it's either that or go to hospital
for IV - D5W, TKO and come home with the hospital staph
infection that they can't cure.

You are completely right about how this sort of thing can
totally
change ones plans for keeping alive.

SM: Yeah, and if I'd had to bug out, I'd have really beeen
miserable.

Always have a good stock of food, water, fuel, and basic
medicine
right in the house where a sick person can crawl to it.

SM: And lots of aches and pains pills. I found acetaminophen
(not Tylenol with the red cap, thanks!) helped.

When my back blows out I can hardly set up, let lone walk
far or stand
long.

SM: We'll have to schedule the next bug out for that moment.

I believe this falls back to the insignificant other thread

SM: Hey, mortality isn't all grand. But, it's what we got.

Just got an H1N1 shot and regular flu shot a couple of months ago.
I'm up on pneumonia and tetanus shots. These are good insurance.

Hmm, my last Tetanus was ages ago ... i guess i should make a date with
the doc.

BTW, since you took the H1N1 shot you are now officially marked a
traitor. The others around here will not accept what you write in the
future. They believe those that got the H1N1 vaccination, like you and
me, are now remotely controlled by Obama via nanorobots.

Little do they know that resitance is futile ;).

But seriously, i wish more people would take vaccination more serious.

Getting vaccinations is a personal choice. I get tetanus shots (due
again about now?) but not 'flu shots. My Dr doesn't recommend them to
healthy people, only those 'at risk' and since I don't smoke, am not old
in the traditional sense of the word, not a child and not pregnant I
don't fall into the risk catagory. I also work at home so time off work
from illness is not an issue.

Aside from illness, injuries can cause a serious stumbling block to
one's preps. Yesterday I trod on a bee and being mildly allergic I took
an antihistamine. Still, by lunch my foot had swollen and even today is
very tight and there is no way I'll be wearing foot wear on that foot
for another day or so. It is slow hobbling everywhere and things take
twice as long to do. So much for my new daily exercise regime I started
Christmas Day, my New Years resolution practice run, already out the
window. <sigh>

I started getting flu shots when I was 17 and started the university.
Getting the flu would almost guarantee that you would lose a semester.
My employer was very health conscious and offered all vaccines.
Over 50 years, I've been flu free.

Tetanus booster can be given after the fact. Got mine a couple of years
ago after stepping on a rusty nail.

Now that I know about the nanorobots, I'll have to take to wearing my
tin foil hat.

Best proactive excuse I've heard so far -- blame it all on the poor little
bee :) I wonder if I can find a bee and warm it up enough so it will sting
me so I don't have to face that damned StairMaster in the new year?

It's a rational choice, not a personal one. A personal choice is a red
or a blue tie.

That sounds more rational than personal to me.

Good thing about those resolutions is that you have a year to fullfill
them. Take your time ;).

As for ,,ill when you have to bug out'', i guess that would be just bad
luck. There is little that you can do in advance i think. Things happen.

35 years without flu, also with most shots. I had many times the
sniffles tho. Wich BTW is called Rsselseuche here. Wich directly
translates to beak-pestilence. Wich i find funny.

Right, but i think i remember that you need a second shot a few weeks
later to make it stick for a decade. Something like that.

I have seen people with flu. They often have violent bowl movement at
some point. They sometimes even throw up.

With all the talk about being fit enough for when TSHTF I thought I
should lose a kg or 3 and I've set the treadmill up in the office so I
can watch vids on the computer. I find exercise for the sake of exercise
boring but since I get engrossed when watching a good show it has been
quite easy so far. An hour and a half of movie walking feels quite
productive although most of the time it is a 45min show series. I know,
I'm supposed to elevate the heart beat and sweat a lot for a proper work
out and that may have been fine when I was young but I just can't get
enthused about being hot and sweaty these days.

The bees are all over the buffalo lawn which is flowering and in need of
a mow. I think they are there for the moisture since it has been high
30's to mid 40's C (>100F) nearly every day. A/c is my friend.

Okay, maybe a poor choice of words. Anyway I do believe in immunising
for childhood illnesses so all the kids were done. Now they are all
grown up and making their own life choices.

DS has done nothing but laugh at my fat foot. His bees most likely since
the hive is just over the fence. He has no reaction to bee stings and
neither does DH. He didn't believe me when I said it would probably
swell up so no sympathy from them.

That's the kind of unplanned trouble that really makes a
mess of emergency action. When you really need to be doing
somthing in a hurry (woods on fire, lets go fight the fire)
and you can barely move. I've done three days of barely
moving. Fortunately, I'm not on fire.

Stormin Moron has a wife? I find that hard to believe. Didn't he
recently start a thread pondering whether or not a wife was worth
having?

I use perspiration as a measure in my workouts on the treadmill,
trying to keep going until I freely perspire, have to be wearing a
headband, etc.. I know it's healthy to clean out your pores that way.
And when I get to that point, I figure it's okay to stop, which for me
is in about 15 minutes on the treadmill and 5 on another machine good
for upper body exercise. Feels good when you quit. bookburn
