"Alt.surrealism" has no relevance to surrealist activity (beyond the
occasional discovery of another lost and disapointed explorer).

The banalities daily inflicted upon it's suffering readers by the arrogantly
ignorant, creatively crippled and cross-posting pretenders should be an
embarassment to their authors and an outrage to all others.

The stench clinging to the rotting corpse of "grillo," the mad cow, and the
occasional ghostly abcess of "neu" is evidence of what you have found.

There are, from time to time, some genuine nuggets of surrealist writing

The fact that there is a lot of other stuff too has more to do with the
nature of Usenet, where nothing is sacred and everything comes and goes

Seems to me you need to go with the flow a bit old chum.

This means you're disappointed by this newsgroup ? I must say I expected less
crap, but hej what can you do ? It's mostly Americans who are surfing on the

Alt.* is what we make it, just as the language does not belong to the
lexicographer.

Cross-posts are irritating, but alt.* is a land of free expression.

No, barrett doesn't think he's dali, he thinks he's breton. He has an
ego like dali's for sure, he once accused me on this forum of wanting to
destroy the sacredness of works of art to which i replied.

"of course, just like Marcel Duchamp did with the mona lisa."

He didn't like that.

That explains a hell of a lot. I'm seeing Americans and Texans on a dialy base
at those interesting American talkshows we're getting over here. I was
watching Ricki Lake the other day. Very intelligent I must say.

sorry stephen, you've obviously got me confused with someone else, since the
sentiment and motivation you attribute to me is quite foreign to anything
i've posted here. perhaps you're thinking of someone else encountered during
one of the skirmishes i took part in last year with the chenites, the "dn" and
"ac" that is. they (assuming you aren't either one, both, or some portion of
"them") are the only "individuals" i've engaged directly in anything that
might approach an accusatory manner.

[ if you wish to refresh your memory, these posts are at:
http://www.skypoint.com/~barrett/altsur.html and,
http://www.skypoint.com/~barrett/chenwars.html ]

or perhaps it is my on-going (and quite tactful, considering the barage of
bullshit that was flooding the group at the time) "challenge" which you refer
to as an "accusation" directed at you (although i can't remember having any
particular reaction to any of your posts)?:

i quote that challenge in its most aggressive form below for others to judge:

As with Zen (I believe), any academic treatment of Surrealism strays
from the spirit of Surrealism itself; iconoclasm and the defiance of
analysis are essential to Surrealism. So though there is no doubt a
clear difference between Surrealism & Dada, any true Surrealist
wouldn't give a shit. I like to think Dali would have been the first
to piss on his own paintings.

The Three Pillars of Surrealism:

1) Don't be boring.
2) Don't take anything seriously, including yourself.
3) Scratch this spot to smell what Connie wore to the prom.

Your own words are sufficient indictment of your shallow view of surrealism,
but at least try to conduct your argument in good faith, and avoid quoting
someone elses false assertions.

As i have replied earlier, stephen appears to have confused me with someone
else, as i have never made any "accus[ations]" against him, or proclaimed the
"sacredness of works of art."

Yes Yes fun fun.
kinda like eating hotdogs at the ballpark while wearing new nike sneakers.
Who knows what will happen??
but there will be pop corn too.

Good Photos for advertising.
Neat video ideas.

All the while
covered by insurance.

what do you want to sell?

Have you ever tried strychnine.

the taste on the fingers is actually quite interesting.
kind of bitter.

it will break down the flicker fusion of daily life
and teach you new ways to smile,

And

I know there are people out there
shaking their heads

who know

exactly what I'm talking about.

But

If I buy a hotdog
from a surrealist

I personally

want to be assured
of the possibly

the artist
might,

for his own private reasons

or

unbeknownst to himself

have

laced the mustard with strychnine

and that

laughter

might

later bring on

convulsions
and bleeding from the mouth.

Re: eating strychnine

Strychnine is a poor means of committing suicide.

Eating Strychnine is primarily a body game that is ugly
and without grace.

In my previous post I discussed a use of strychnine.
I am not advocating anyone eat strychnine.
Personally I would have no respect, no pity, and
no real interest in anyone choosing to
eat strychnine.

Saying this does not detract from the internal validly of
the previous post.

People will do what they will do.

For individuals truly interested in mind/ body games that
take the individual to the edge of the envelope, I suggest getting
into shape and learning to rock climb, or becoming involved
in ultra endurance sports. Both will take the mind and body
to places they've not been before. One will bring on
Hallucinations and allow the individual to be touched by the
gods of the ancient hunters.

But people will do what they will do.
