>Is this group for the discussion of Surrealism or is this
>for the continued drivel as found in alt.non-sequitur and
>alt.stupid and so on?
Someone else put it as, "alt.top.my.bizarre.comment," in a mail message, not as
a complaint, but as an observation.
The feared "sunk by the whims of a nonsensical zephyr," descends upon us from
time to time.
To wit, I have a few responses, and perhaps a few suggestions for determining if
your surreal statements *belong* here.
Surrealist artists are not in competition with one another,
each trying to outdo his neighbor, each writer (painter,
photographer, sculptor) determined to prove to his
companions that they are going about things the wrong
way.

Languages of Surrealism
Make the statement more "gender-open" and I believe it addresses the problem of
this group becoming an "alt.top.my.bizarre.comment."
"If you had to think about it, it's not surreal."
And thus we could argue about automatism .. Surrealism greatly embraces and embodies the
concept of unexpected juxtaposition, of fresh revelation. It strongly eschews
the accepted, the practiced and the rehearsed.
The first step -- one having to be taken over and over again,
surrealists warn -- is to avoid developing a style, cliches,
mannerisms and fixed forms of expression such as every
surrealist ascribes contemptuously to _schools_ of literature and
art.
We are not denegrating absurdity and nonsense, but as has been stated in the
INTRO, such things serve a better purpose in alt.stupidity or alt.non-sequitur.
