1. HARRY WHITTINGTON BIO PAGE
Don't take my word for it. Let me quote Edgar Allan Poe who
wrote, in reviewing Nathaniel Hawthorne's Twice Told Tales: "A
skillful artist has constructed a tale. If wise, he has not
fashioned his thoughts to accommodate his incidents but, having
conceived, with deliberate care, a certain unique or SINGLE
EFFECT (caps mine) to be brought out, he then (italics mine)
invents such incidents, he then combines such effects as may
best aid him in establishing this preconceived effect. If his
initial sentence tend not to the outbringing of this effect,
then he has failed in his first step. In the whole composition
there should be no word written of which the tendency, direct or
indirect, is not in the pre-established design. And by such
means, and with such care and skill, a picture is at length
painted which leaves in the mind of him who contemplates it with
a kindred art, a sense of the fullest satisfaction. The idea of
the tale has been presented unblemished, because undisturbed .
French critics have noted that my heroes all are "disillusioned
knights in rusted armor, often at battle with the very forces
which employed them in the first place." I had no idea, as I
wrote, that this was true, but in the face of so much evidence,
I must concede. No one of my heroes is ever permitted, by his
own disenchanted sanity, to believe in the sanity of the social
"order" around him. For example, a nation in which an
administration bases its policy on industrial/military complex
greed, can talk blandly the insanity of "winning a nuclear war,"
insists upon sixteen thousand atomic warheads when three will be
more than sufficient, and spend billions on it while refusing
crumbs to dependent children and closing the Library of Congress
at 5 P.M. daily; perhaps because that leadership got where it is
by having never read more than three books in its combined life
span and wishing to provide every youth that same opportunity.
My hero cannot put on the happy face. He is pushed to the place
where he can trust only himself, even when he recognizes the
impossible odds he faces. This does not stop him because he
would rather die fighting than to surrender to greed, corruption
and mean-heartedness, which places him as often at war with
himself as with the uncompassionate and cynical power structure.
I often quoted Forgive Me, Killer as answer to those who wanted
to know how long it took me to write one of my suspense novels ?
and what delayed me?
With Forgive Me, Killer, the answer is either four years or one
month. I make no attempt to resolve the question, I simply state
the facts: On March 8, 1952, I signed a contract with Fawcett
Gold Medal for a novel (in outline) called My Bloody Hands.
Nothing went right. It was planned as a novel about a crooked
cop named Mike Ballard who is gut-sick of corruption and his own
smell of evil.

Cheney's often mistaken for a deep-thinker," says a longtime
Republican staffer on the Hill. "He's not. He's just a plodding
thinker. His long pauses and deliberate mannerisms disquise the
paucity of his political philosophy. It wasn't that Cheney
concocted reasons to vote against the ERA or the South African
sanctions. He actually bought into the pr. He truly believed
that the ERA was going to force women into combat and men's
bathrooms. He really believed that Nelson Mandela was a
programmed tool of the Kremlin who would turn Johannesburg into
a black Havana, after purging the country of all whites, if he
ever got out. We called him Cheney the Credulous. But always
behind his back. He had an explosive temper."
Cheney is a member of that club of Republican men who find
themselves in the intellectual shadow of their hard-driving
wives: Quayle, Ford, Dole, Phil Gramm. Cheney's wife, Lynne, is
one of Washington's top talking heads and a cohost of CNN's
Sunday edition of Crossfire. She's a formidible intellect, who

William C. Sullivan, former head of the Federal Bureau of
Investigations intelligence operations who broke in dramatic fashion
with the late J. Edgar Hoover, was killed early yesterday in a
shooting accident near his home in Sugar Hill, N.H. He was 65 years
old.
Maj. Mason J. Butterfield, law enforcement director of the New
Hampshire Fish and Game Department, said that Mr. Sullivan, who had
been on the way to meet two hunting companions shortly after daybreak,
had been shot and instantly killed by another hunter, Robert Daniels,
Jr., 22, who had mistaken Mr. Sullivan for a deer.
Major Butterfield said that the shooting was under
investigation and that no charges had been filed.
Mr. Sullivan's 30-year career with the F.B.I. began in the
early days of World War II, when he was dispatched by Mr. Hoover on an
undercover intelligence mission to neutral Spain.
After several months of tangling with Axis spies in Madrid,
Mr. Sullivan returned to bureau headquarters in Washington and took
the first in a series of administrative posts that ultimately included
a decade as head of the domestic intelligence division and a brief
tenure as the bureau's third-ranking official behind Mr. Hoover, the
director, and his longtime companion, Clyde A. Tolson.

Frederick Cheney LaRue, 75, a Nixon White House aide and the
"bagman" who delivered more than $300,000 in payoffs to
Watergate conspirators, died in a Biloxi, Miss., motel room,
where he lived. LaRue had a history of heart problems.
One of the most mysterious men in the Nixon administration,
LaRue was as a presidential aide without title, salary or
mention in the White House directory. Yet he was so close to the
center of power that he was one of the few present at a March 30,
1972, meeting at Nixon's vacation home on Key Biscayne, Fla., at
which former attorney general John Mitchell discussed the
planned break-in and bugging of the Democratic National
Committee headquarters office in the Watergate building.
The money for the operation came from Nixon's reelection
campaign fund, as did "hush money" paid to the Watergate
burglars and their attorneys, LaRue later testified to the
Senate Watergate investigative committee.
LaRue was the first administration official to plead guilty to
charges in the Watergate coverup. He pleaded guilty to one count
of conspiracy to obstruct justice and was sentenced to one to
three years, with all but six months suspended. He eventually
served 136 days.
LaRue came to Washington in 1969, as an experienced political
hand and was described in a 1972 Washington Post profile as a
squinting, mumbling "Faulknerian character, an insignificant-
looking man who passionately sought anonymity throughout his
wheeler-dealer days."
LaRue was liaison between Mitchell and Mississippi Sen. James O.
Eastland (D), who was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee
and who supported Nixon's judicial appointments.
LaRue became active in state Republican politics and served on
the Republican National Committee from 1963 to 1968. He donated
to Barry Goldwater's 1964 presidential campaign and was an early
donor to Nixon's 1968 campaign. He was very close to Mitchell,
and after the attorney general resigned in 1972 to become
campaign director of the Committee to Re-Elect the President
(CREEP), LaRue went with him.
After the Watergate break-in, LaRue and another aide, Robert C.
Mardian, were put in charge of the coverup, supervising the
shredding of documents and destruction of financial records.
Born in Athens, Tex., LaRue used his family's wealth to become a
political financier. LaRue later shot and killed his father in a
duck-hunting accident in Canada.

Frederick Cheney LaRue, usually known as Fred LaRue, (b. October
11, 1928, Athens, Texas - d. July 24, 2004, Biloxi, Mississippi)
was a shadowy presidential aide in the administration of U.S.
President Richard Nixon who served time in prison for his role
in the Watergate burglarly and coverup.
LaRue's father, Ike Parsons LaRue, went to prison for violating
banking laws, and, upon his release, made a fortune in the oil
business. Fred LaRue sold one of their Mississippi oil fields
for a reported $30 million in 1957. Later that year, he shot and
killed his father while hunting with friends in Canada.
LaRue used his newfound wealth to become a political financier
and served as a member of the Republican National Committee from
1963 to 1968.
LaRue was one of the principal architects of Nixon's so-called
"Southern strategy" for winning the election, part of which he
helped coordinate with advertisements from the campaign office
of segregationist Strom Thurmond
LaRue also recommended the use of a "special ballad-type song in
the current 'country-and-western music style, by which
nationally famous artists will sing the message via the radio
and TV." The song was called "Bring Our Country Back" and
included "alternate" lyrics with the couplet: "Dick Nixon is a
decent man/Who can bring our country back." LaRue proposed
putting the song on local radio and television programs
throughout the South.
LaRue attended the Key Biscayne, Florida meeting on March 30,
1972, at which Mitchell and Jeb Magruder approved a "dirty
tricks" campaign against the Democratic Party

Pittsburgh police said they were called to the home of Richard

Mr. Scaife called police because his wife, Ritchie Scaife, was
pounding on doors and peeking in windows.
When police arrived, Mrs. Scaife, who was in the back yard, was
told to leave. She did, but only for about 15 minutes, police
said. When she returned, she refused officers' orders to leave
and was arrested. She was charged with defiant trespass and
released on her own recognizance.

Good old Bob Duggan, I barely remember his death, it was front
page news. Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 01:57 AM by happyslug
Allegheny County District Attorney at the time of his death in
1974 Had just been indicted by a Federal Grand jury for
obstructing Justice relating to bribes being taken by Detectives
serving under him (Given that he had just married a Scaife may
be the politics it was claimed to be).
Anyway, how many people commit Suicide while Hunting with their
Brother-in-law? With a full Shotgun blast to the Chest? (Most
Suicides are in the month, quicker death and as a DA, Bob Duggan
would have run across that fact in his carer as a DA). That is
what supposedly happened to Bob Duggan. Duggan and Scaife where
out hunting and Duggan either Accidentally shot himself while
climbing a fence or committed suicide. Please note both Duggan
and Scaife had fired their shotguns previously to the "Accident"
thus there is no way to know which shotgun killed Duggan. While
I have no reasons to questions the official explanation of
Suicide (or the Alternative explanation that Duggan's Shotgun
went off as he climbs a fence with the Trigger catching on a
branch) I have my doubts (as apparently did Duggan's Wife who
supposedly did not speak to her brother since the Death of her
Husband till her own death in January of 2005).

I always will remember,
'Twas a year ago November,
I went out to hunt some deer
On a morning bright and clear.
I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow:
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
I was in no mood to trifle,
I took down my trusty rifle
And went out to stalk my prey.
What a haul I made that day!
I tied them to my fender, and I drove them home somehow:
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
The law was very firm, it
Took away my permit,
The worst punishment I ever endured.
It turned out there was a reason,
Cows were out of season,
And one of the hunters wasn't insured.
People ask me how I do it,
And I say "There's nothin' to it,
You just stand there lookin' cute,
And when something moves, you shoot!"
And there's ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now:
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a pure-bred Guernsey cow.
