I've never like Poe too much, but "Poe" comic books sound way cool. Who
publishes them?
> _Tales of Mystery and Imagination_, Morphi.
I think we'll simply wall you in, behind the brickwork and then
have a chuckle....while you slowly die there, wasting away, buried alive
inside a foul, dark, damp, brick crypt. Nope, we're not sadistic. Not at
all.
R.M.
> Course not, Morphi is hopelessly lost.
Yes, I am, but not in any of the ways you might imagine.

> I've read a lot of and about Poe: he isn't a sadist by any stretch of that membrane. An egoist at times, yes. A depressive, yep. But he managed to inflict most of his pain on himself. Poe was a dreamer, but - despite his rightful appeal to surrealist - he was also a very "conscious" writer, and his works are meticulously worked out. dmh
Poe appealed to the sadist in every human. Any crowd of people can be
turned sadistic. It's very easy. Any individual can be turned sadistic.
It's a little harder. Anyone can be broken eventually, and the stronger
they claim to be the easier they tend to break.
You simply have to know what buttons to push and how to push them. Look
at human history.
Poe no doubt recognized the sadistic element in himself... even if you
want to deny it. Whether he had an inner conflict between the dark side
of his personality and the other side that you want to so readily extol,
I don't know. He might have had, and that leading to depression. He
might have been trying to come to grips with his own psychopathic
tendencies, in his writing, as to the fullness of the human experience.
All humans have them, and increasingly nowadays strive to deny it. That
is a harbringer of big trouble for the human species and for this
culture / society in the future. A lot of unexploded bombs strewn
about....
When people realize that under their superficial practiced niceness they
are as potentially or actually as cut throat as anyone else, then that
is a little glimmer of enlightenment.
When you realize that you enjoyed the rats caged with the victim's face,
starting their nibbling.... horrified perhaps... but enjoyed the story,
you've begun the journey to realize who you really are as a human being.
You too have as much potential to become the dungeon master in that
dungeon as does ANYONE else.
We are all of us, Stalin, Hitler, Count Dracule, Attila the Hun, Pontius
Pilate, etc. We are all of us ready to send someone to the gas chambers
of Auschwitz, or to wall someone up within a crypt. Each of us has
someone we hate at least that much. Now, don't deny it.... It's that
veneer of civilization that is deceptive. Society is competitive, highly
competitive, fragmented at best (ethnic, religious, political, etc.),
and under the veneer, there is very little that is polished or good.
It's a cauldron rife with commonly repressed hostilities. I think Poe
knew that... but how to say it without contravening the then demands for
silence on most such matters ?
Since psychology and sociology have made some progress it is a little
easier to breach the silence, than it was in Poe's day. Less need to
transpose events into other situations, other times, to fictionalize
and disguise the real covert plot beneath the overt storylines.

I am sorry: you asked whether or not I could recommend a Poe biography. As
per usual, I have forgotten all the pertinent information (as of the
moment), but one came out a year or two or so ago, and I remember it as
being quite complete and satisfying in all respects. I know that isn't
helpful, but I will try and find out more.

Thanks for offering to share that, but no thanks. It's not what I meant,
or what I needed.... You really didn't understand that poem did you ?
You thought it was about your own monthly blood sacrifice ? NOT !!!!
R.M.
> You really should try it, and you should wear one of those pads too.
> Then you resemble a hermorphealdite.
Why ? Did you sneak up, under my chair, and attempt castration, while I
was sitting at my computer ? I knew that moist feeling was more than
perspiration, along with that sharp jab...but you missed... even if I am
now limping around with blood running down my right thigh.... it's only
a flesh wound, only a flesh wound, no vitals struck.... but a pad might
help... and some scotch tape...
Hermorphealdite ?
You've been messing with too much Tarot. You should keep away from that
stuff. It's bad for YOUR psychic health. lol
