First off, I know I named the spot, but it's like naming OB SD or Waikiki. I don't think it'll get more crowded as a result. So I've been lucky enough to live in Brooklyn for about ten days per month. A buddy of mine has a "surf shack" two house in from Rockaway Beach in Queens. Dropped off wife and daughter to an event in Kaneohe, so I took the time to head to the eastside (ES) to check out the swell. A system just several hundred miles away threw some messy, short period swell from the east. I'm still benched due to my back injury, so I busted out my puny 70-200 mm "land" lens and the monopod.... more »

Advice sought on wetsuit for bodysurfing

Since I can't board surf anymore, I'd like to be able to bodysurf year-round. But last time I tried to use a wetsuit to bodysurf in cold water, both my O'Neil wetsuits (winter & spring) took in water at the neck, filled up with water and made bodysurfing impossible. It wasn't epic, but it was fun. Craig K and I got together a week ago, hooked up in Wrigleyville over a beer and watched Niners game and bears game in a pub that likely could have been a speakeasy at one point.
