NS today -- 1/4/12 (vog Wed)

Was all prepped to shoot the Westside on the morning of "Big
Wednesday" when my daughter asked to borrow the good camera. Sigh. Had
to let her of course.

So I was left with my backup cam and just didn't feel like using my
old housing. So rather than getting in the water, I decided to check
out Waimea Bay for a few hours.

Traffic was surprisingly light all the way. When I got there, I found
the entire North Shore shrouded in a haze, partly from vog from the
Kona winds, and partly from a hanging water vapor from the pounding
surf. Felt almost like a light foggy day in San Fran, only warmer.

I made my way around the backside of the Bay. Didn't bring my
slippers, so I went "hadashi" slicing up my tender feet. One guy who
was leaving warned me that the entire area was in the splash zone and
not finding completely dry spots, I believed him.

Shot a few before going around to the northeast corner of the Bay to
watch some shorebreak action. It was trying, but the extreme north
angle sort of didn't come into the Bay optimally.

It's always amusing watching the brave surfers enter and exit the
water. One guy timed it just wrong and got sucked over backwards in
the shorebreak, breaking his board in the process. So funny; so
embarrassing. Maybe it was for the best that he didn't make it out.

Zoomed back to work, but the stickiness of my skin from a sheen of
salt kept me thinking back on the big, gray surf.

Not Eddie size, but there were a few solid ones
