Subject: NS today -- 1/8/12 (Backdoor Shootout 2)
Went early to try and shoot the moonset. Had some challenges with
focus and exposure--need to practice much more.

Surf was bigger, but the swell angle shifted to a more NW angle. It
didn't look great early on, so they took a long time to decide to run.
So I shot from the beach until the call.

Waited for like 20-30 minutes on the shore for a break in the surf.
Just so gun shy from my experience during the Masters. Made it out
pretty easily, but was still stoked when Terry gave me a ride from
Gums to Pipe.

Surf was bigger than the day before with outside reef indicators.
These actually give time to prepare for them.

For some reason the contest was put on hold for almost an hour due to
inconsistent sets. Of course, waves started bombing in. Competitors
didn't mind--they just free-surfed it, scoring some great waves in the
meantime.

After yesterday, I got tired quickly. Had to run anyway. I'm sure the
contest continued with good surf and conditions.
